My darling asked me on Xmas eve to be his wife. He went out to feed our horses and while I was inside he sent me a text. The text read "Lily needs you!". Lily is my girl. The most amazing, special animal in the world to me so instantly I thought "oh my god ! Something is wrong with my babe!". I threw some oversized boots on and ran like hell outside to find Lily with a bag tied to her. As I opened it he asked me to be his wife

. A man that asks me through Lily is a keeper !!!

H and I are huge Disney nerds. Every year I drag him to see the Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios (sniff, they're gone now). He kept bending down to tie his shoe when we were walking in the park and I was getting annoyed. We got in line to get our pictures taken and when it was our turn, he bent down to tie his shoe and I made some sarcastic remark. Turns out he had the ring in his sock & was down one knee!

I didn't know DH was going to propose, though I was really hoping he would when it happened. DH and I went on a vacation for our 9th anniversary to a small mountain town. While on the trip, we decided to go on a historic steam engine train ride. It was a 3 hour trip that wound through the mountains, by water falls and past beautiful trees changing colors during the Fall. The train took us up to a small gold mining town. While walking around the town, he was so nervous, giddy and awkward. He kept wanting to sit on benches, walk down side alleys, like he was looking for an area to be alone.

On the train ride back, he asked me if I wanted a special gift. I asked him what it was. He said, "You can only have it if you say yes." Then he pulled out the ring. About 5 minutes after saying yes, I asked, "How much did you pay for this? I am real romantic

My DH and I walked through the park at least 3 days a week. It was the end of December and snowing. He asked if I wanted to go for a walk, so we walked for a mile or so and took me down to a bench by the river and got down on his knee and asked me to marry him I forgot most of what he said because I was so nervous. He took a picture for me to remember this beautiful moment

DH had hernia surgery, so I suppose he had a lot of time to sit around and "think". I don't know what had gotten into me but I got really grouchy with him about taking to long to propose but always talking about the future. Mind you, the man was pretty much an invalid while I was snarking at him.

Then for a week I was the biggest pain in the ass because I was convinced he was breaking up and I shall not got quietly into the night. Well he was going to stay over at my house (lived with the folks) because everyone was "going out of town" and they didn't want me to be alone.

We were in the living room and he asked me to get him some pain meds so I went into the kitchen, grabbed Tylenol and Advil because I wasn't sure what he wanted. When I came back into the living room he was on his knees leaning over the ottoman. He told me he was having trouble standing and he needed me to help him stand. So I sighed heavily and went to tug him up, but instead he popped the question with my great grandmothers rings he had been waiting on getting. Needless to say my response was "you're not joking are you?"

It was very us and I'll always love the memory of that special moment happening in my childhood home.

DH had just graduated from the fire academy and we were going out with his family for dinner to celebrate. His parents and one sister went ahead to get our table at the restaurant and DH decided he had to use the bathroom. He's a "home field advantage" person so I didn't think anything of it. Me, DH, and DS walked outside and I had my hands full with my purse, diaper bag and bottle of wine since we were heading to a BYOB restaurant. We walk outside and I start hearing fire trucks and saw the lights coming down the street both ways and so I turned to DH and was like "what's the call. You didn't get pages?" And I'm looking all around for a fire and saying that's so strange that no one is outside their house waiting for firetrucks..meanwhile, on the fire truck there was a HUGE sign saying "will you Marry Me?" And I was oblivious to it. When I finally saw it, I was like awww someone's getting engaged totally not realizing DH Was behind me on his knee. Needless to say I was shocked but in a good way. Still can't believe he was able to surprise me.

We were on vacation in the Keys. We went to an amazing Cuban restaurant (still one of my favorite places) and went to watch the sunset. We walked around for awhile and then ended up just sitting by the water talking. As we were sitting there, he said how the week had been almost perfect. Me, a little confused but thinking he must have been talking about how it had rained once, just agreed. He said that it would be perfect if I agreed to be his wife. When I turned around, he had the ring. ❤️

DH proposed on our five year anniversary. He took me out to my favorite restaurant, The Melting Pot, and got us a private booth in front of the fireplace. He was acting super nervous so I had a feeling something was up. Before I could even look at the menu he pulled out the ring and made a nervous speech about how much he loves me. He stopped talking and I was like "...and??" And he looked confused so I said "is there something you're asking me?" And he was like "oh, right!! Will you marry me?" It was so cute and very us. The waitress was super excited when she found out and brought us a special dessert. The next day we went away for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary/engagement!

He didn't! DH and I had been toying around with the idea of eloping pretty much since we met (we did end up moving in together after about a month of dating). We also had an agreement that were he to deploy, we would get married before he went. He got called up for this deployment on June 1st, and I was like "Okay, what day do we want to do because I'll have to put in for a personal day at work." So that's when we got engaged. I didn't get my ring until a week before my wedding- we went to Coney Island for the Mermaid Parade, and it was hot, I was starving, and I hate crowds so I was super grouchy. We grabbed some hot dogs and met up with some friends on the beach. I sat down and immediately started shoving food in my mouth, and I can't even remember what he said to get me to turn around, but there was my husband holding my ring. My mouth and hands were full of hot dog, and even though our friends knew he was doing it then, they had friends of friends there so one girl just started screaming "OMG! What is happening?! What is happening?!". It was ridiculous, but very much us.

We got married June 24th at City Hall and had an afterparty at a bar in the village. We were planning a bigger wedding later, but I loved our first wedding (and don't want to deal with planning another wedding).

DH and I had just gotten a puppy a few weeks early and he finally had all of his shots and was able to go outside and around other dogs instead of just our backyard. So DH and I planned to go to the beach to take him for a walk. DH was acting funny and as he was driving and I got this funny feeling and looked at his pockets to see if anything was in there. There wasn't so I just moved on. We got to the beach and started taking pictures of me DH and the dog with my digital camera (before phones were the new cameras) and as I went to look at the picture he was on one knee. He was so nervous and in the most high pitched voice goes "will you??" I was like will I what? He finally got it all out and to this day I've never seen him like that ever. A bunch of bystanders on the beach were clapping and he took me to my moms after where our families surprised us.

My H took me to a conservatory and asked me on the top of the mountain in the himalaya room. This was after 8 years of dating and he was being deployed to Afghanistan in 5 months time, but I was still very surprised.

DH was kind of unemployed when I met him. He had gotten out of the Army a few months before and had taken the civil service test as well as several FF and PO tests. He had turned down several jobs in business (that's what his degree is in) and was working doing masonry and was well underpaid, waiting to get into a department. Fast forward to him getting hired as a FF, and he told me flat out when we went on vacation to the DR not to get my hopes up because he was not going to propose then. There wasn't a lot of money, so I knew when he booked a vacation that a ring wasn't coming. I didn't expect him to ask then, but I was pissed that he felt the need to tell me that. Then he busted his knee playing softball. By this time he was working to take over his dad's landscaping company and really couldn't do either job, so he was already losing money and not able to get on his knee literally. His surgery recovery was pretty bad, but he still hadn't proposed once he could walk and bend his knee. I was getting pissed, but I lurked on Wedding Bee and those girls had a Shut It Up Pact. I tried to plan fun activities that kept my mind off it and also gave him an easy opportunity to propose. There was a wine festival at a park near his parents house on Memorial Day weekend, where he used to go running in HS. My family used to go there every year for Memorial Day when I was a kid. Turns out I found a place that was meaningful enough for him to consider proposing. He bought the ring a few days before, went to see my mom and his parents, and took me to a scenic overlook where he climbed down (not easy considering his knee) and proposed. I knew because he had been acting weird and he had also been wracking his brain over what ring to get. He had talked to his sister and then asked me because he wanted to be sure I'd love it. I pointed him toward my Pinterest board and he picked the one I liked the most (although I thought the center stone was too big, but my coworkers said you can never say that to him!) We got married a little less than four years after we started dating and I got KU two days before our four year dating anniversary. (We all know how that ended though...)

DH and I were in college and incredibly broke. DH took me out to a nice dinner for Valentine's Day, and then we went back to our apartment for gifts. I got him Zombieland on DVD. After he opened it he asked me to close my eyes because he hadn't wrapped my present. When he told me to open my eyes he was in front me on one knee.

I loooove this thread! All the romantic stories make me mushy.

We had been looking at rings but I didn't know if/when he was going to buy one. Well he must've forgot that we shared a bank account by this point or just didn't think about it...that is so like him (before he joined the military we conbined accts so I could manage his finances easier while he was gone), so one day when I was balancing the checkbook I saw the withdrawal! I pretended I didn't and have never told him! But weeks went by and nothing happened so I started worrying he changed his mind! Then one morning when I woke up he was sitting on the bed with three roses and breakfast. He handed me a yellow rose and said "When I first met you I asked you to be my friend", then handed me a white rose and said "then I askd you to be my girlfriend" and then a red rose and the ring and said, "Now I am asking you to make me the happiest man in the world and be my wife."

Mine is a little weird lol

We went out for our 4th anniversary to a really fancy and expensive restaurant and I was thinking "yes! This is it!" So I was on pins and needles the whole time, could barely eat the whole thing. Then a couple on the other side of the restaurant gets engaged and I'm in tears because at that point I knew it wasn't happening.

A week later was my undergrad graduation and party. My family came in from all over to celebrate. Then while I was opening gifts I open a thing of diamond cleaner, turn to look at him and he's on one knee with a gorgeous ring.

He he admitted that he thought about doing it on our anniversary but that he wanted to ask my parents permission in person and have them there to see it happen.

He had come home from work and jumped in the shower before he had told me hi. When he came into the bedroom still a little wet and naked he gave me a hug and wispered in my ear "will you marry me?" I looked at him in shock and said "are you serious?" He responds "yes, so will you?" "Absolutely!"

We got married 3 months later.

Awwe I love all these stories!

Mine requires a little back story... so after we had been dating for 1.5yrs we took a trip out to the UK so I could meet his family. We also went to Paris while we were over there so EVERYONE thought we were going to get engaged because well Paris. I didn't think it was going to happen on the trip and I tried really hard not to get my hopes up but everyone else kept saying they thought it was going to happen so it made it hard not to hope it would. Needless to say it didn't. So after we got back everyone kept asking if we were engaged and it felt sooo shitty. One person even asked if we broke up? So from that point forward I was really anxious about getting engaged and I put the pressure on really hard for him to do it. A few months later we had a casual date night planned for a Friday night but when I got home he told me to pack my bag for the weekend. He ended up surprising me by taking me to this really cute bed and breakfast. I had a feeling at this point it was going to happen but he waited until the second day we were there to throw me off! So finally on Saturday, he had this adorable picnic lunch set up in a gazebo for us at the B&B and that's where he got down on one knee and popped the question! I immediately burst into tears and the first thing I said was "I'm sorry for being such a pain in the ass"

There never really was a proposal for us.

*TW - pregnancy mentioned* I unexpectedly got pregnant June 2015 while we were dating, we had just moved in together the week I must have conceived. Since we weren't married and we both worked at Sonic Drive-In, I was on my dads insurance plan still. Needless to say, they wouldn't cover any maternity costs at all, and Sonic doesn't provide enough pay for us to cover it. DH had been told he got a new job at the end of Aug, so we decided we needed to get married so I could have insurance coverage as his spouse. So about three or so weeks later we got a marriage license and had one of my moms friends wed us. No family, no friends, just us, the ordained minister (also a chef at the restaurant we did all this), and two employees of the restaurant as our witnesses. It was very simple and quick and in no way planned, but we love it. We've thought about renewing our vows here in a few years, but haven't really committed to it or anything.

As marriage started to feel inevitable, my partner and I decided to decide together. I never was really into the idea of waiting for a dude to a surprise me with a diamond. But he did make me an opal ring, and one evening on vacation after we finished a long hike to camp, he pretended to find it in the crevasse of a giant rock near our camp stove. "Proposal" was so far from my mind that I believed he'd actually found the ring there.

I was glad to have it.

Love all these stories!!

DH and I booked a cruise (Feb) because we never have went on a true vacation together until then. I had been bugging him about proposing, but he said money was tight until May/June so it was not going to happen then. DH is a CPA, so I believed him because he is all about budgets/saving/etc. I did not want to get my hopes up for the cruise, so I just wanted to relax and have a great time. So on the first night, we had a really nice dinner and went back to the room. DH was out on the balcony and called me out there to look at the stars. Poor guy, I went out there and looked at the sky - there was one small star, overcast, and cold. I told him I was going back inside (almost ruined it), when he said no and kinda trapped me there. He started saying some sweet things and asked me - unfortunately forgot most of the things he said because I was excited it was happening then.

Love everyone's story but must say @jess0211 yours actually brought tears to my eyes. . And a big aaaaahhhhhh.

DH took me to a fancy restaurant and had phoned them to prebook the wine cellar area so we could be alone and romantic. When we got there they hadn't prepared it! ! So from already being nervous he was totally thrown and didn't know what to do lol. (I was totally unaware ) so he eventually went down on one knee while we were having a cigarette outside! !!

These stories are awesome!

DH is from Canada. We went on a trip to Canada so we could meet friends and family and he could show me where he grew up. Our first stop was Niagra Falls. We did all the tourist stuff including going to dinner at this rotating restaurant overlooking the falls. He seemed nervous and fidgety the whole night but I never suspected a thing and I was actually mad at him for making us late. After dinner we went up to the outdoor observation area to look down at the falls. I turned around and he was down on one knee with a ring and he asked me to be his wife. First I said 'are you serious?' just out of shock then I said yes. He will never let me live that down although in my defense he is such a big joker.

Such cute stories!

We didn't really do the proposal thing. We knew that we were in this for good - We had already moved across the country together and been through a lot. Marriage was kinda important to me but he was indifferent. We had had a few conversations about it, but never really settled on a timeline. Then last year his mom mentioned that his grandparents (who are quite old) were talking about coming to visit us and see our life on a boat. That sparked a more serious conversation, that if they were coming, we should use that opportunity to get married instead of having to try to plan a wedding back home.

We were going back to visit a month or so later - so instead of really announcing or anything, we waited until we had some alone time with his grandparents and asked them if they were serious about trying to come out. We told them we wanted to get married out west, but it was most important that they were there, so we would plan it around them. They were so touched, and his grandma was all teary eyed - but also mad because we were in the car and she couldn't hug us right away!

For both of us, I think 'proposing' to his grandparents was the most sentimental part - and I think it meant more to all of us then a more traditional proposal would have.

(There was also no ring haha - we were trying to decide what to do for them, since we didn't want the traditional, expensive rings. We decided I would wear my grandmother's rings, and bought him a titanium one - he loved the idea that it wouldn't corrode in the salt water haha)

It was on Feb. 29th last year. I knew he was going to propose...he'd asked me to take the day off work so we could go somewhere special. We get in the car and he starts driving. We wind up at Universal's Islands of Adventure. We walk around and around looking for this "special" place he wants to take me and he can't find it. Ultimately he gives up, we walk through Hogwarts at Harry Potter land and he proposed in front of the holographic Dumbledore. He always apologizes for making me go through "so much" to get there (I had a busted knee at the time and we walked around for seriously an hour looking for THE place) but I don't think it could have been any more "us" than where he wound up proposing

These stories are JUST what I needed this morning!

DH is a really shy guy, so I never thought he would actually propose to me at all! Haha!

We went to Universal Orlando for me to see the new Harry Potter park. I wanted to ride my favorite coaster (which is always the first thing we do when we get to the park), and he was adamantly against it for some reason - complained about being hungry. Very unlike him, but I was oblivious. On our way to the Hogwarts express from eating lunch he decided he wanted to stop in a photo booth and get photos made (again, very unlike him - but I was still oblivious). He let me pick the frame, and then grabbed the ring out of his pocket and asked me right when the picture took - it was super sweet and romantic, and since he's not a showy guy it just made my heart melt that he'd do it in that way.

I actually didn't even say yes - I said "dude, are you joking?" Haha! It was such a special day.

So mine just happened a couple of weeks ago.

OH got laid off one Friday afternoon recently, so I immediately realized just how bad his health insurance through COBRA would be. I printed out info on what it would cost to add him to my insurance, and when I got home, presented it to him and said "we're getting married."

God we're romantic! But we've been planing to elope forever, so this gave us (him) the kick in the pant we (he!) needed. We've ordered rings that finally both arrived, I have had a white dress with blue applique flowers for about two years, and I'm putting together the brooch bouquet that is really the only thing I care about wedding-wise. I still have to call to change our appointment, but it looks like we'll be getting hitched either Thursday or Friday of this week!

We haven't told anyone, so I don't know if the family will demand some sort of party. They live on opposite sides of the country from each other, so the logistics are a pain in the ass (one of the many reasons we don't want a wedding). So far the plan is to call everyone after and send out wedding announcements in the next few weeks.

I was getting my wisdom teeth pulled at the dentist. He was making fun of my puffy cheeks and laughing at the bloody drool I couldn't keep from dripping out of my numb mouth.
My nurses told him that he was mean, so he said "No I'm not, I love her! As a matter of fact, I love her so much I want her to be my wife!"
He got down on one knee , proposed to me right there in the dentist's chair, and kissed me on my swollen, bloody mouth haha

aww I love this!

DH had apparently been planning since before we started dating lol The poor man knows more about diamonds and jewelry now than most jewelers (he might be a little bit of a research whore lol) He got my mom and sister in to help nail down the ring details which turned out amazingly. I didn't know that he had been doing this, we knew that we were getting married and had talked about when and whatnot, unofficially planning for April the following year. Then we decided that we didn't want to wait that long, we've both been married before, we knew we wanted our family and 2 very close friends and that our pastor was willing whenever we were so we picked a date.... that Thursday! This was Sunday evening, and I joked that I guess now he was going to have to hurry up and propose. What I didn't know was that the next day had already been planned for weeks. My mom was 'taking my grandmother to the cornmaze by their house because she had never done one before' and asked me to tag along. I said sure, and off we went. So we get over there and meet our friend 'A' who owns the farm, we chat and she tells us to head on in, that there are directions on the table by the entrance. We get to the table, and I start reading and realize that it's from DH. It was long and elaborate, and totally him. So I head into the maze with his walking stick (which was on the table too) my mom and grandmother following behind. Then I see his friend 'G' ahead of me taking pics. All along the way are pics of owls (my favorite) with "I love you because.... _________" all kinds of cuteness filled in the blanks. There were also stations along the way with things from our friendship and courtship, startrek box set (all him), his rosary, etc... and more and more people were appearing in the maze, my dad was pulling a wagon with my DS in it so I could place all the mementos I was gathering. We got to the end and all the rest of the family was there, but still no DH at this point. We walk out of the maze, and he's standing there, in the pumpkin patch, waiting for me. I walked up and 'G' had a whole photoshoot set-up with flash umbrellas and whatnot. My sister (semi-pro) was taking pics too. DH professes his love to me and ends up opening the box...... its empty.... I'm pretty sure you can hear me laugh and call him a jerk on the video lol He had hidden it in a pumpkin. In the middle of a pumpkin patch.... that's just mean lol Luckily for me, DS knew where it was and saved his mama the embarrassment of searching for it forever lol.

The ring is beautiful, the day was beautiful.... everything was perfect.

The next day at work, we had a department lunch at a local restaurant (we work in the same office) so we're sitting there eating and one of the ladies says, soooooo, anything you want to share? I laughed and said yes. Showed them all the ring, told them the story. Many oooooh and ahhhs. Then someone asked if we had picked a date yet, I said totally straight-faced, "yes, Thursday" I got a lot of stunned looks and a few "in 2 days?!" And sure enough, we did. And everything came together beautifully. My parent's decorated the church we attend, the pastor created a beautiful ceremony on super short notice, we managed to get our license the day before, my aunt made the flowers, 'G' did the photography and music, my mom organized the reception dinner at a local restaurant, my sister MADE MY DRESS.... 7 hours, she's amazing. DH's nephew was his best man and my sister was my maid of honor. We told them both to just dress nice since it was short notice, our colors were purple and green if they could, but if not it didn't matter, they didn't need to match. They both show up wearing a bridesmaid's dress from 10 years before and a newly purchased shirt in the exact same shade of purple (total accident, no communication on their part) Our nieces were the flower girls, DH's DS was the ring bearer and my DS walked me down the isle. It was the perfect blending of families, and the fact that everything fell so perfectly into place told us that God had his hand in all of it!

Thanks @NYTino24! I'm pretty excited. But, we've had to delay until next Friday. There is a local emergency going on here that affects my DSS and his mom and grandmother. DSS is with us until everything is OK again (which I love...that little boy is a joy and has my heart), and his mom and grandmother are staying near us in a hotel. Looks like they'll be here through the week, so OH doesn't want the drama and awkwardness of trying to complete our secret mission with everyone around. I'm less than thrilled that his ex has anything to do with the decisions we make, but I don't want the day ruined, either. So next Friday it is!!
