    @714beach

    I have the same issues with not being able to sleep. I try 1 of 2 things and it usually helps. I will try a nice warm shower and since it helps me relax I can usually fall asleep. If that doesn't work, I will use a small amount of Lavender and Chamomile oil (i rub it on my chest and shoulders) and I am usually out like a light with in 15 minutes.

  • It should get better as your pregnancy progresses, until the end, of course. But the sleeplessness associated with being at the end of your pregnancy isn't really insomnia, more of an inability to sleep due to aches and pains, peeing several times through the night, etc. This is all easy though, compared to the sleep deprivation most experience when baby is born. Unisom is usually considered safe, but talk with your doctor. The doxylamine formula is the one that I used, not the dyphenhydramine formula, and I broke the pills in half, otherwise I'd wake up groggy.
  • Ok, ok... seriously... 1st trimester insomnia IS a thing, and it's horrible. Torture, really. My 1st trimester insomnia was far worse than 3rd trimester -- made worse by the fact that I was withdrawing off Klonopin. Absolutely awful.

    Take. Some. Benadryl. It'll be ok, I promise. It's safe to take.
    Or at least take some Doxylamine (Unisom) - it's class A for pregnancy - they give it to pregnant ladies for morning sickness. Entirely safe!

    Sleep is super important. EVERYTHING is worse if you're not sleeping.

    Hang in there, mama.

  • PG insomnia is awful. My three favorite non-med things that help me get to sleep are a hot shower, a cup of chamomile or peppermint tea, or honestly sex. Being intimate with your SO can help to receive stress / pent up emotions so you can finally sleep.
