Re: TFAS (Trying for a Sibling) February Check-In

  • @heatherdubrow it's not there yet, but the mosquito that can carry the virus lives there. I keep checking the CDC website to make sure there's no local transmission.

  • @shortstack930 we had no issues conceiving our son in December of 2012; it was our second cycle NTNP.  Given the fact that my DH & I both have infertility issues now, my RE feels like I was "lucky" with DS and that everything just lined up. I'll never know but just know you aren't alone!

  • @ChloandCoco I hadn't thought of Zika honestly. We put off vacations last summer thinking that I MIGHT be pregnant and, well, we see how that worked out. I told DH I didn't want to do that again this summer and wanted to go somewhere we couldn't if we'd had an infant. So we're going to Hawaii, Zika be damned!
@wabash15 yup, my bf mom group is awesome and a life saver. Still bff with moms I met in that group. But I am literally the last one from the group without a second kid too. I keep thinking what I'd do if we didn't ending getting pregnant again and I think we'd adopt. I never imagined raising an only child.

Oh hey, @CecilB93, I was scheduled for induction on Feb. 28th bc of gestational hypertension, but our little guy made an early arrival. We were thinking he was going to be a leap day baby! Are you currently BFing (since no period?)
@fwtx5815 No! I've been done breast feeding for about 2 months now! And before that I was only BFing at night for a good month+. But of course I come and say that I haven't had a period and then when I get home tonight and go to the bathroom I see that AF seems to be making her appearance tonight. Great

  • How do all you moms who are still bf'ing work temping? Or do you not? My DD is 9 months old, still bf'ing, and nowhere close to sttn. We're not actively trying yet, but I didn't go the bc route because the ob told me at my 6 wk pp appt that the mini pill was less effective and I couldn't see pumping myself with hormones that may not even prevent. So I was going to temp to prevent. But with a baby waking up every 3-4 hrs, 5 on a good night, I hate to set the alarm for one more wake-up that of course will not coincidentally align with her wake up. But also, the whole resting time before taking a temp for accuracy. Also, I'd like #2 to be within 3 yrs of age to DD if possible, so I want to get an idea of my cycles before it's time to actually try. Any suggestions/advice/experience?
  • @kitkat8713 for me I would pick a time that was consistent, what ever time that was even if its less than 3 hours of sleep. Its Ok if your up before it as long as you've fallen back to sleep. your chart will be a bit rocky but you'll still see a temp shift

  • What number are you trying for? #2 for me, #1 for FI

    Cycle/Month? 1/1

Other children at home? Ages (if you want to share)? DD, age 8

Any thoughts about this cycle? I'm cautiously optimistic. Waiting on BFP.

    Any questions?

GTKY: Who's thinking about vacations yet for this summer? Any planned so far? FI and I will be on our honeymoon in July (getting married in May but postponing due to work/moving). Other than that, we'll probably take DD to the beach. We live in FL so that should be pretty easy....
  • @wabash15 thoughts on the importance of consistency (same time every day) vs resting time? Which do you think is more important? For example, if I set my alarm for 4:00 am every day. But then DD wakes up at 3:00, I feed and rock and it's 3:30 before I lay back down. Temp at normal 4:00 time, or reset alarm for maybe 5:00?
  • @shortstack930 Yes, with DS it only took 2 cycles. Now we are on cycle 8 this time around. I have to think it has something to do with the fact we are 6 years older now, but who knows.

What number are you trying for? 2

    Cycle/Month? 8

Other children at home? Ages (if you want to share)? DS, age 5

Any thoughts about this cycle? Well, I'm trying to remain hopeful, but it gets a little harder each month. It's been a bit of a blow after we only TTC for 2 cycles with DS. Maybe we just got supremely lucky, or maybe our age is affecting things now. Who knows.  I've been trying to mentally prepare myself that this may not happen since DH doesn't want to go down the path of testing and treatments, mostly due to age/time/money. I get it, but it is mentally draining to gear up for something and then have to completely change your expectations. And this all makes me feel guilty to discuss because, as others mentioned, I already have a DS. As I've gotten older, I really feel like I'd like him to have someone in the future. Our families are so, so small. I worry about him not having any family left one day. There isn't really anyone I can talk to about this since no one knows we are even trying, so thanks for starting the thread.

    Any questions? Not really.

GTKY: Who's thinking about vacations yet for this summer? Any planned so far? We might do a little camping trip/amusement park over the summer, but that will be it for now.

  • @alysapuggles I am mostly a lurker but felt the need to post because we have similar stories.  We got pregnant with DS after only 3 cycles (and some testing but that's a story for another day) and I'm now on cycle 7 with nada.  DH is on the line of, if it happens it happens but I don't think he'd go for testing and treatments (DS has some health issues that make him scared to have another) and although I am so happy to have DS, I would love to have another for many reasons, one of them being that DS has that someone.

    What number:  2

    Cycle: 7

Other kids at home, ages?  Yes, DS 3 (4 next month!)

Thoughts about this cycle?  Hopeful as always but not excited about timing.  Have an appt with my OBGYN Friday to discuss options (AMA over here)

    no questions, no vacations planned

  • Hi all! I am a long time lurker, but new to posting. I was planning on just introducing myself on WTO or an intro thread once I was able to participate there, but this thread seems like it fits my situation better. Hoping to participate in WTO soon, and in the meantime lurk and participate where I can (maybe the benched thread?).

What number are you trying for? 2

    Cycle/Month? N/A

Other children at home? Ages (if you want to share)? DS, 11 months

Any thoughts about this cycle? No PP AF yet. DS is sleeping through the night and usually BFs about 4 times a day (usually at wake up and before bed, then I pump twice at work). Trying to figure out how/when to lessen BF and eventually wean as DS approaches his first birthday.

Any questions? Any signs that O/AF might be on its way, based on your experiences? I know everyone is different, just wondering if for others their PMS signs were the same as before or if it somehow changed PP. I'm keeping an eye on CM, and am trying to temp, though it's hard to do consistently. And any tips or resource suggestions for weaning/lessening BF frequency?

GTKY: Who's thinking about vacations yet for this summer? Any planned so far?
None planned so far. We have family in Europe we thought about visiting, but I'm not sure if I want to make such a long trip with DS. I'm worried about how hard the flights would be, since they would require at least one connection and an overnight flight. We'll see if we can make it work, otherwise just looking forward to enjoying some time outdoors locally.
  • @happyhiccup for me I did not have any signs prior to my first PP...  as for weaning the website kellymom has a lot of great info.  when my kiddos were a year I began to wean pumping sessions and dropped on a week. after that I was content to nurse morning and night. we recently fully weaned and I mostly just stopped offering and only nursed when they asked. Then I would limit it to once a day if they were asking for more than that... if they asked I would distract with something else or give a bottle of milk. GL

  • @TravelingCouple I agree 100% - I was worried about the age gap between DS and hopefully #2, but the more I think of it, I like spacing (4.5 years at least). For me, DS is a bit more independent, potty training, going to school, etc.  Plus it gave us more time to deal with DS's health issues and get them under control

  • @TravelingCouple I totally agree. I had always wanted my kids to be two years apart but now they'll be at least three years apart. I think it's better this way because now DD is potty trained and can understand a bit more and will be in preschool by the time the next one comes. Also we ended up struggling a bit financially last year which would've been more difficult with a newborn around.

My first 2 are 3 years apart with struggle in between. We experienced another 2 years after my second. We decided to just focus on our two at that time. We started trying again last year. If it happens soon, they'll be really far apart in ages ( 10.5 and 7.5 years apart) but it doesn't deter our decision. Of course we would have loved them closer together but honestly I kind of like the idea my older two are at ages where they can be more helpful and understanding. I agree with @heatherdubrow there is no perfect age gap. Each family makes things work in their own way.

  • My DH is the youngest of 8 :o and it's so interesting to see the relationships he has with his siblings, like being closer to some of the older ones than with those that are closer to his age. We don't really have a plan on how close or far apart we'd like DS and any possible future children to be, just trusting that things will work out how they're supposed to, there's a reason for everything, all that... (which I deep down believe, but is hard to convince myself at times). So, we're just approaching it as we want to start trying as soon as we can since we're anticipating it might take some time, and if it happens sooner rather than later, great, and if it takes a while, then at least I'll have months of temping and information to help figure out any problems that might be going on. But totally recognize how much it sucks every CD1 when you're trying, it sucks  :(  (Hopefully all that makes sense! feeling a bit cotton headed after a long day)
  • @TravelingCouple I'm glad you have a plan in place and that you're excited about it.  Good luck!!!
  • @TravelingCouple TW I lurked oct 17 bmb and saw her there end TW
  • Thanks @50Wife :)

Ohh ok @heatherdubrow that's great for her! I missed the announcement unless she went right to her BMB.

So today one of my friends came over who recently had a baby and she has a son near DS' age as well. DS was so sweet with her infant, sharing his toys with her and it really made my heart ache. He's not old enough to articulate wanting a sibling but damn, I really want to give him one. My hopes are up way too high for next cycle. Like painstakingly high.
  • @TravelingCouple awwwwww my son did that with a new little cousin a few weeks ago. Giving her a pacifier and patting her (Probably too hard) when she was fussing. It killed me a little bit
Fingers crossed that next month is your cycle!!
  • I'm crossing everything for you @TravelingCouple!!
  • Glad to have found this as I've suffered from some foot-in-mouthitis around here :(

Cycle/Month? Currently benched while undergoing testing and awaiting mirena removal.

Other children at home? Ages (if you want to share)? Two boys ages 4 and 2

Any thoughts about this cycle? See above.

Any questions? Is there an idiots guide to temping/charting? I know about TCOYF but I barely have time to read a Facebook post let alone a book. The FF charts make my head spin. This is my first time actively TTC and doing so unmediated so I'm currently in the overthink everything phase of my anxiety.

  • @mschanandlerbong1214 I personally think FF takes a lot of the guess work out of charting (most months). Literally-you can use ovulation tests and temp and enter both of those into it and voila, it'll tell you the day you ovulated. It gives you your O date after the fact so once you get that positive OPK just get busy and hope your timing is good enough.
Ovia is another app I've been using as well. It uses your information and gives you a fertility "score" each day numbered 1-10 to give you a better idea
