TTC After a Loss

AFs after Loss

Greetings All,

I am curious what others might have experienced. So, I got off Mirena after 10+ years in October. I O'd about 10 days later, then had my first AF 14 days after that. It was about 4 days long, with a mix of spotting, light and medium flow.

The following cycle, I had my CP. I had the equivalent of a 1 day period that was spotting/light flow. The next cycle, I had a 1.5 day AF and this cycle, I had what could be considered a 48 hour AF (spotting on 14dpo, light flow CD1 and then light flow for half a day on CD2).

So, it seems like maybe it's increasing little by little...but its still so odd. Prior to Mirena, I had 4-5 day AF. I know I am only 4 full cycles after Mirena, but I am wondering if this is more due to the CP or to the BC or if my body is just being weird.

Did anyone else experience weird AFs for a few cycles after their CP/MC?

Re: AFs after Loss

  • Unfortunately yes, AF after cp/mc can vary greatly - From cycle to cycle, and from person to person. Especially since it could also take time to regulate from getting off birth control. Are you charting?

  • @Uhlease13 Thanks for the response. Yes, I have been charting. My cycle length and O date for the most part seem consistent and my temps are less erratic now, but the length of my period seems off.
  • I wonder is the Mirena takes a while for your cycle to regulate?  After I got my Iud out my cycles were kind of weird for a few months.  The CP may have added to your body's confusion. I hope you are able to regulate soon.
  • Gotcha. But yes, my periods changed a lot after mc. Hope yours regulate

  • @dragonfly87

I'm anticipating my first AF after my CP to arrive in the next 5-6 days (I've been tracking/temping so know when I ovulated - we haven't started TTC again yet), so I don't have any answers to your question, but have a related question for everyone:

Did anyone notice major PMS symptoms the week before their first AF after a MC? I was seriously just crabby and annoyed all day today, and I'm exhausted (for no good reason) ... ready for AF to show up so I can feel better!
  • @jen83mn: Thanks for the response. I actually didn't have any PMS symptoms or even cramps for my first 3 AFs after coming off Mirena. I didn't have AF while on Mirena for about 3-4 years (on it for a total of 10) and it was weird that even my CP, I had no symptoms other than bleeding.

This past AF (4th cycle post Mirena) was different though. I had cramping, back aches, headaches, sore boobs and other PMS symptoms. So I am not sure what my body is doing right now.
  • @jen83mn- I'm not tracking but had a small amount of spotting yesterday which for me always signals AF in 3-5 days.  I had my normal belly bloat starting over last weekend which is always a sign of AF for me.  Usually my boobs get fuller and sore too but not this time.  Also I was sad on Monday but that could have been due to the dream I had Sunday night.

  • @laoster- wow that's crazy.  Mine is almost over and is pretty much identical to what it was before my CP.  Only difference was much less spotting leading up to AF.  But way more breakouts on my skin and much more moody.

  • Well I had my normal 33 day cycle from start of MC bleeding (even if took 4 days to actually MC) to AF. I was prepared for the witch since I'm temping. Only a 10 day LP as opposed to 12-13, which makes me think I definitely need to get my progesterone checked since my temps are also erratic.

  • @NYTino24 : looking at your chart it looks like O would have predicted for 2 days earlier (based on CM and OPKs), so I wonder if this was an off cycle for your LP and O.

Either way, doesn't hurt to get hormones checked!
  • @NYTino24- I'm tentively scheduled to get my Progesterone checked on the 23rd :)

@dragonfly87 I always have a big spike for O and a big dip on 5dpo.

  • @laoster That sounds horrendous!  I just had a CP and I am dreading this AF.
  • Cue the bad cramps on CD 1. They usually hold off until CD2 for me and aren't this bad. This is adding insult to injury. :(

  • @NYTino24: sorry for the cramps. My first two AF post CP were short and no cramps. This past cycle though, still only 1.5 days and awful cramps. It was really strange. Our bodies are mysterious things.
