Knot on my belly

Hi ladies -
I am just wondering if any of you have had anything similar and can share your experience...

My belly (skin/outside) has been sore for several days.  When my kids rub up against it, or if it rubs up against the counter.  I didn't think much of it.  Yesterday, when I was in the shower I noticed it had a knot in it where it was sore.  It is about an inch above my belly button and an inch to the left. (So, it is higher than where the baby would be at this point).  My cousin is an OB, and my sister is a PA... so I asked them both what they thought and my cousin suggested it may be a small hernia, and my sister agreed or thought it may be an abscess.  There is no mark on my belly, but you can see that it is slightly more protruded on the left side (where the knot is) than the right.  I asked them both if this was an emergency kind of thing, or could I wait to my next appointment and they both agreed that I needed to be seen as soon as possible, but that it was not an emergency.  Also, the knot is very painful when touched.  I called my OB at 8:30 and still no response.  I am giving them to 12:30, and then I will call back.

Any of you other ladies experienced or heard of anything like this??

@EmeraldNC please let us know what you find out! Praying that it's nothing serious!

@EmeraldNC I agree with pp about it possibly being a hernia... one of my best friends actually had one while she was pregnant (and further along than we currently are) and her OB (who also happens to be mine) referred her to a specialist who was able to remove it without having any impact on the baby.
Keep us posted! FX it's nothing serious!

@EmeraldNC I'm so glad you got in. Hoping the ultrasound will give you some more info and direction tomorrow (and that it just stays the way it is/doesn't worsen!)

I have no experience with fibroids, but your explanation of it sounded exactly like my umbilical hernia. I honestly don't know which is worse, but I hope either way you're okay!

@EmeraldNC good luck at the scan tomorrow!  I hope things stay manageable for you if it is in fact a fibroid.

@EmeraldNC glad the scan went well and your wee man is doing great!  Both my kids were crazy active in womb and boy did they come out that way!  I hope you get answers soon on what seems to be a hernia.

Update: The doctor from my ultrasound sent over a report to my OB, they just called... And now they're in agreement that it's likely a hernia. No more lifting more than 10-15 lbs and I have to wear a pregnancy belt. They said after I deliver and the post partum period is over they'll refer me to a surgeon. And of course.. If it gets worse we have to re-access.

Where do you get a pregnancy belt?!

You can find them on amazon. I got one for my commute because it helps support the weight of your growing stomach and also helps with posture and back pain. It looks useless but its really great. Check reviews. I like mine but I have no idea what it's made of and it smells like garden tools. Off putting to say the least.

@EmeraldNC I got my belt at a medical supply store.  They properly measured and fitted me for.  It also has a custom molded plastic piece that fits in the back portion for extra support.  They just heated it up and shaped it to my back.  It cost my insurance 122 bucks I believe.

@lizerspitz and @Wearmi1   This may be a dumb question.... Do I wear it under or over my clothes?!

My hernia popped up after I had my second baby, it only stayed sore for a short while and since they knew I wanted more children we decided to wait and said we would schedule the surgery once I was done having them. Well pushing during my third labor caused it to become way worse and there was no way we could wait so we went ahead and scheduled the surgery and they had me fitted for a band (I wore mine under my clothes) ... the surgery was fast and easy, I was back to breast feeding the same day (I asked them not to prescribe me pain med for bf reasons) and then I want to say I had to wear a different band for a few weeks and that was it.
