So i called the clinic again today after calling all week to make sure the optometrist would see me for my appointment even though i'm pregnant. i live on an air force base a civilians have very low priority and i've been waiting a month for this appt. turns out they will see me no problem except they cancelled my appointment and no one bothered to call me! The girl on the phone was very nice and understanding and they are going to squeeze me in sometime in the next two weeks even though they have no appointments available. DH is off tomorrow though bc i had this and my NST and now i'm going to have to find a sitter for DS for whenever they can see me. I just really want some new damn contacts in my head before this baby comes! So annoying!!!

Are you sure about your prescription? 1800 contacts is really easy.
So I know this is gonna sound like I'm an ungrateful B, but I just need to vent about how frustrating it was to receive dozens of things at my shower over the weekend that were not only NOT on my registry, but were things we totally don't need/want... Of course I didn't show any disappointment at my shower & am SO grateful for everyone's generosity & will still send lovely thank you notes, but still - I spent hours researching things to put on my registry & had over 100 things for people to chose from (even after I bought all the "big" stuff off it myself) yet only 4 people actually got things off of it for us...the rest of the stuff I'm gonna have to traipse around all over to the stores they shopped at trying to return things for store credit & hopefully buy diapers or something practical instead...goodness knows how much time I'll spend doing that. Yesterday I used my completion discount on Amazon & a $100 gift card from DH's parents and still spent $700 on the things that were still available on the registry that we actually DO want/need. I swear I'm never going to stray from anyone else's registry if I'm ever going to buy a gift for them & know they spent time putting one together, that's what the damn thing is there for ughhh!!!
@serenity13 You are not being a B. This is a place for those vents! I never go off registry for the same reason. "Happy baby shower, here's some errands to do!"
I have a friend who always buys white onesies for showers because they are practical and no one else will buy them. Regardless of if they are on the registry. What if the mom already has them? What if she's decided white is impractical because poop? What if she's registering for all organic clothes? This lady doesn't care, white Gerber onesies it is. Sure, it's generous to buy a gift at all, but completely unthoughtful.
Out of curiosity, what kind of things did you get you want to take back? At our showers we got a ton of extremely pricey and not at all comfortable baby clothes, three copies of thebhungy caterpillar, tons of cheap brands of baby wash (I had registered for cetaphil because my skin is so dry and I was sure my sons would be too), a bottle warmer (i nursed and that is a pretty pointless invention anyway) and even a 2T Santa elf jammies set. (My shower was in January.) I even got made fun of for some of the things I registered for! Apparently it is not appropriate to register for anything tangentially related to my boobs like lanisoh or breast pump accessories.
@serenity13 you certainly aren't being a b. I was having similar thoughts because my dad and his fiancé did buy stuff off the registry but didn't actually have the store scan the receipt so I had to go through and take it all off manually and then got mad because I wouldn't get the rewards. I figured I was probably being a little b for that too. Im grateful for them getting stuff but would like to reap the benefits too. Sorry you have to go around and return a bunch of stuff
I even got made fun of for some of the things I registered for! Apparently it is not appropriate to register for anything tangentially related to my boobs like lanisoh or breast pump accessories.
Ugh. If you registered for bottles, I'm sure no one would blink an eye at that. You need those things to feed your baby, what's the difference?

Funny thing: I did not register for bottles because I figured I didn't know what brand my little one would like. I got tons of Agent bottles, like over 20.
My son never took any bottle nipples but playtex ones.
@serenity13 Don't feel bad for how you feel! This was exactly why when I had my shower for my son a couple years ago I made sure it was a gender revealing shower. Some people called that manipulative, but I honestly didn't care. I know how both of our families are and if we said we were having a boy we would've gotten a crap ton of clothes and all of the stereotypical "boy" things, like toy footballs and stuff. Withholding the gender assured us that we mostly got the things that we needed more than anything, but of course there were still things that we ended up returning. I think after all of the stuff we returned, we ended up having a Target gift card for over $300. I know that people mean well, but I do wish that people would actually go off the registry.
@serenity13 same here, had my shower over the weekend and am currently making a return pile hoping i can take most of it to the same store without recipts. Ugh!
@disneybaby84 my mom and I did this last week and we had good luck with taking most everything back...the only time we ran into problems is when we didn't know where something came from...we'd take it to a store and they'd scan it and not find it in their system. I still need to make a couple more runs to return things so hopefully DH and I can do that this week.

Thanks ladies! Yes we definitely got a ton of "boy" toys, things with no purpose other than looking cute that we don't have space for, and so.many.clothessss! Like an insane amount. We already had way more than enough clothes up through size 18 month because I went a little crazy on Carters website on Black Friday & we also had a TON of hand-me-downs from friends who have boys, so I didn't register for any clothes & made it known a while back that we were well stocked up already in that department. I guess people just enjoy buying baby clothes too much to care haha
I feel your pain ladies, no one has ever really gotten things off my registry for my two previous kids. That's why when someone offered to throw a shower this time I didn't even register (I know I should have for the discount). But honestly it's just not worth the effort and getting my hopes up! I'm sorry that they didn't turn out the way you wanted. I hope it's still fun getting the good stuff yourself though. No matter how much I hate to spend the money I still love it when I "have" to buy something new for baby
my b-fest complaint: I'm so over having to tell my sweet DH what to do to help me around the house! Can't he just see that the dirty clothes need to be taken downstairs and do it?! (And do the million other things that I can't do anymore too) I just hate having to treat him like A. My maid (do this, do that) and B. A child. Im sick, tired and annoyed!
@C25 - I'm so there with you on the DH! Our recycling needs to go out...wanna bet it still there when I get home tonight?! Also the trash in the bathrooms need to be unloaded for trash day tomorrow, wanna bet I'll have to do that too? I'd just like for once to come home and not have to ASK him to do anything!
@mecoats exactly! Dang, sorry you're in the same boat. I'd just like to know how they can walk by or be around these things every single day and not think a single thing of it!! Do they not feel the responsibility to keep a clean house? What is it that it doesn't even cross their mind?!
@C25 - I've heard from my wonderful DH that he just doesn't want to do it wrong. How do you take the trash out wrong???? Or how do you throw your trash away wrong??? I think my DH is too afraid he's gonna do something that I might not want him to do and he's gonna "get in trouble", but if he would look around without me asking him (and not be playing his video games), then I wouldn't be so mad. I don't understand the male species sometimes. I also bring up the fact that growing up his mom never made him make his bed, or clean up after himself, so I think that was part of the issue too.
@mecoats haha. Maybe I'll ask my DH tonight and see what he says! That's funny. I don't understand them either..but then again they definitely don't understand us! Haha
@serenity13 I can definitely see how that would be frustrating. Maybe DH or a friend can help you return stuff for store credit to where you can get the things you do really need and want. Most people went by our registry, and the one's who didn't actually got us some cool things that I didn't think about that might be really helpful and cool (my sister in law got us a cute little elephant sound machine/night light deal that looks helpful!) and not that many that are going to be returned with the exception of my grandmother, who got us a 6 foot tall gigantic teddy bear. 6 FOOT TALL TEDDY BEAR! Very sweet gesture, and very cute bear, but where am I going to store that big ol thing?! What am I going to do with that?! Lol. I figure I'll probably take the baby's picture with it and then find the bear a new home...

Ha I totalllllly get the baby shower complaints! So, my MIL insisted on inviting a bunch of people I've never even met - these are the only people that strayed from the registry! Well, most people grabbed an item or two from the registry & a cute something else which was very sweet. No gift receipts from these people either! Talking about 15ppl! My tips -just one me is Targets carters brand -child of mine is walmarts -carters store itself sucks - return policy is exchange only. I exchanged some stuff for 1yo clothing lol. UPF hats. -cat & jack target -koala baby clothes BRU (maybe elsewhere not sure?) -Kohls has hands down the worst return policy without receipts. I hope to never shop there again (which isn't hard I've been only once & its out of the way).
Go to Carters, BRU, then Target (try to return stuff to these stores even if you aren't sure because it may prevent an extra trip). Last return stop WalMart. They will take almost anything there as long as they sell it. I walked away with hundreds in gift cards to Target & Walmart. A huge annoyance, however, worth it to replace it with stuff I could actually use - diapers, wipes, breast pump accessories, nipple balm, baby Tylenol, etc. I should mention I have bags of hand me down clothing, some with tags on it still, so I had no qualms retuning the majority of the impractical baby clothing; I kept some but ummm - no reason to keep 65 0-3mo onesies!! WTF people! Some of those onesies with embroidery are so itchy! I ended up stuck with only 2 identical dresses that are itchy & one set of 5 onesies that will likely never get used (came from Kohls but now have $0 value so kept them). I will donate these items or pass them along to another mother.
@Goodmorning12 That's weird about Carter's being exchange only. The one here let me get a store credit for something that my mom ordered online and like an idiot I lost the packaging slip. Of course they couldn't give me money back for it but they were happy to put it on a gift card. Is the one near you a Carter's/Oshkosh or just Carter's?
First world problem: They moved me to a different hospital room in a hurry and the nurses left my chapstick there and I need it!!!!! Housekeeping must have thrown it out bc they couldn't find it
Also, this room has spotty wifi... bye bye Netflix.
Sorry to hear that so many people went off your registries!
No shower with this baby but MIL gave DH a bunch of clothes for baby and the vast majority are pale pepto bismol pink I am personally not a pink person and definitely not a fan of baby pink. Also, a lot of the clothes are used which in general is fine, DS lived in hand me downs, but these are uuuuuuused... and her house smells so I had to rewash all of the clothes that she will probably never ever wear except to send a pic. Plus she gave him a bunch of little stuffed animals and other useless crap that is going to clutter up my house right before we move. Ugh.. it's just like .. thanks but no thanks!
Oh wow - reading these I think we lucked out so far. Everyone but one person at my shower this weekend bought off the registry. We have the shower with DH's family this coming weekend. The one person who didn't go off the registry made something handmade. Which I feel especially bad about not using because it's a little handmade blanket and pillow but we are trying to go mostly organic cottons and the blanket is a super synthetic scratchy material in super bright colors. It even smells chemically. Or maybe that's my hyperactive nose.
My bitchfest today is that none of my clothes fit over my bump, all my maternity stuff is too short now to cover the black band of my maternity jeans and the plain black dress I wore a bunch now is so tight in the boob area that it's no longer appropriate for work with the buttons almost popping apart. I don't want to have to buy more stuff! I'm literally going to wear the same 3 things for the next few weeks.
Speaking of boobs, I was having a meeting with my male boss earlier, and I was talking with my hands (like I always do, my hands are always moving when I'm speaking.) I had a pen in one hand. Somehow said pen flipped up in the air and went right down my shirt. So I had to fish my pen out of my shirt with my boss sitting right there... good thing he just laughed and I was able to laugh and not be totally mortified. It must be Monday..
Little me is sold everywhere except Walmart or Target. Nordstoms to BRU to TJX - I'd look the design up online and try BRU or Nordstrom's.
Just a Carters and actually at two different locations they would not give me store credit! If I never saw another piece of Carters clothing I would be A OK. Hate that policy. As well as Kohls $0 value deal - Target flies through clothes as well but let's you use a nearly identical item to value it for store credit.
My bitch: I am DONE being pregnant. DONE. I know damn well that I'm only 37 weeks tomorrow so little man likely needs some more time. I have zero intention of doing anything that could potentially attempt to evict him early, but I AM SO DONEEEEE! I cannot answer any more stupid questions at work that I've already answered fifteen times nicely. I cannot smile when someone asks me "How are you feeling?" anymore. My house is completely set up and ready. The carseat is installed and my hospital bag is packed. I'm giving one final presentation tomorrow at work and then basically consider everything else as tied up as it needs to be before I leave. I am working up until the day I deliver, and I completely understand that I could potentially be pregnant for as many as five more weeks, but for the love of god - I'd really like to tap out of this pregnancy sooner rather than later. End rant.
@Goodmorning12 Gotcha. The Carter's store near me is a Carter's/Oshkosh, so they must have a different policy. That's still weird though, you would think they would all have the same policy.
I don't even think anyone bought one thing off my registry with my first pregnancy. Registries where I am aren't a big thing for some strange reason.. likely because there's not one store that does baby registries and I could only do one online for stores that are out of town.. the joys of small city living. I guess I'm glad this time around not to be having a baby shower since it's baby #2, no worries on getting stuff I don't need.
My bitch this week is that I was totally excited to have finally purchased baby bedding... Came in today and I'm not thrilled on the quality. It's a Pam Grace 6pc set and cost me about 180$ (still not too bad I guess it could be worst) the material is pretty thin and not soft at all. For my DD I got a set from Walmart for less than 100$ that is much much better quality than this... The US price would have made me feel better about the quality but the exchange for Canadian price I am just not happy with. Anyone have experience with Pam Grace crib bedding? I got the Honeydew Kangaroo set which was hard to find anywhere. I like it because it's different and loved how neutral it was. Maybe once I wash it the set may grow on me... I can't see it holding up very long though, not between many washes.
Lurking from April. My shower was on Saturday and I think only 5 people got things off my registries. I think most people procrastinate and end up getting what ever. We did end up getting gift cards from Target which will definitely use. We got hand made quilts and blankets which were all gorgeous.
some odd presents: a Stuffed animal that prays(most of our family knows we are not religious). So many 0-3 month onesies, we are team green so I think it could have been worse with the clothes. A Disney store gift card.
Overall we are thankful to friends and family but I will need to return a few things.
The Carter's by us told us to take the two items we had (with carter's store specific hangers and upcs, I checked) and try Target (which doesn't even sell their main brand). They do not do returns or exchanges without a receipt according to the lady at the register.
I feel really lucky the people that came to our sprinkle bought off our registry. There might have been one or two items that weren't, but they were Aveeno bath items so they'll work great. Even the two single guys that came bought off the registry! Hoping you all can get gift cards to where you need to. That's frustrating.

Same boat here with no one buying registry items! I actually kind of wished we had not told everyone we were having a girl because EVERYONE bought frilly little girl clothes! I honestly think that I didn't open a single gift that didn't have at least one outfit in it. I bought all the items that we really needed/wanted off the registry afterwards and spent nearly $1,000 even with the completion discounts!
I would spend the kind of money some you girls spent to get what got missed on my registry, but I just don't have the miney. Wish people would just follow the registry.

Me too. I returned some stuff for store credit but COULD have actually gotten cash money's because the person had paid with PayPal or a bank card.
