TTC After a Loss

OPK help

I'm a complete opk newbie. I've charted for years but just never took the opk plunge until now. My second mc was a kick in the pants. So...if i post a picture of it can someone interpret and give me a crash course on opk. I know the basics, that they should get darker as o approaches but what happens after? Do they gradually fade back? Are they ever just a control line or is there always a test line that just changes from light to dark?

Re: OPK help

  • I was always afraid to use those because I would get confused so I use to buy the digital kind.

  • I'm too cheap to buy the digital kind. Lol
  • I hear ya girl - I would only buy a pack and it would last 2 months so that made me feel better.  I don't use them now.  GL with the interpretation.

Mine tend to look close to that all month long, and then when it's O time the first line gets so dark it sucks dye away from the second one.  What CD are you right now?  If you've never done OPKs before I recommend doing them as soon as AF ends so you get a feel for what your baseline LH looks like -- it's different for everyone, so that's important (I didn't realize that my first month of Wondfos and was SO confused).  It helps me to save a few days worth of them at a time so that I can see a progression when there is one and not drive myself crazy trying to decide whether it's darker or lighter than the day before just going off memory.

Also in my experience, my LH surge lasts for several days, not 12 hours like I thought they were supposed to.  That was also super confusing for me until I realized my body just does that every month for whatever reason.

Editing to add that I know the Wondfo package says dip it for like 5 seconds but I think that's way too short.  I usually do 10 and even then I drag it out (one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand etc).  Maybe I'm doing it wrong but when I only do 5 seconds I feel like the control line never looks dark.
  • My opks get darker 3 days before they surge.  And this starts usually on CD 12.  It took a bit getting used to.  I agree with @migdala to use them and entire month.  I do mine both am and pm.  Good luck!
  • @mommyamp It will have somewhat of a second line for a while following a MC because HCG can turn them darker in addition to LH. That one is not darker than the control line, so it's negative. All you need to know is right there on the package. Good luck!

  • My hcg has been <2 since 1/16 so I don't think that's what's causing it. Today's is slightly darker so hopefully O is on the horizon.
  • @Mommyamp That's great!!!! Fingers crossed for you.

  • I'm on cd 26. OB said to come in after vday if I still haven't had af by then. I'd rather let my body do its thing naturally and avoid that if possible so I really hope it gets its act together soon.
  • give it at least 30 ish days.  I just got my AF today although I'm not counting days I think I went right back to around where I was - anywhere from 29-31 day cycles.

  • I didn't get my first AF until cd44 after my loss. I know the wait is frustrating but if you want to give your body time to do everything on its own it may just take a little longer. I feel the same way about wanting my body to do it rather than taking provera, etc. FX it happens for you soon. ❤️

  • I was told 4-6 weeks after d&c.  Mine arrived at 6 weeks. Hopefully it happens soon. It was a relief when AF finally arrived
  • Last time and I bled for 3 weeks with my mc, had a two week break then af as usual from then on out. This time around is throwing me for a loop.
