Need encouragement - dr called 2nd UPDATE

Hi mommas, we just had our NT scan and it was uneventful. Baby wouldn't get in the right position, couldn't get neck measurement, couldn't get a clear pic of the nasal bone which makes me fear it's missing. And the tech was so not reassuring. I remember seeing it very clearly with DS. Of course my dr wasn't in and I had to see a nurse prac, who reassured me sometimes they can't get the right pic and not to worry. But I'm worried sick that there is an absence of the nasal bone and that that means high risk for Abnormalities. Apologies if this didn't need its own post but I'm pretty shaken at the moment and just needing some encouraging words. Anyone else have a similar experience? They want me to try again in a week and see if they can see things more clearly and get the measurement. I'm 11w 5d. Thanks mommas. I'm such a nervous nelly!

UPDATE: we went back to the the nt scan again today. Saw a beautiful little nasal bone and got all the measurements we needed. Everything looks great and no need to worry I was told. I pray the bloodwork comes back good as well. We also discussed how these tests really can be great but can also Be a source of unnecessary stress. No kidding. Thank you ladies, for all the well wishes! Hopefully I can eat and sleep again now!!! Adding a pic of little bean in comments!

2ND UPDATE- so this all seems like some cruel joke. My dr is still out so it was the nurse prac that delivered the news this morning that all looked good and no reason to worry. Well, I just received a call from a dr that reviewed the scan and the nasal bone and all looked perfect, EXCEPT FOR NT MEASURMENT OF 3.1, that the nurse "missed". She said under 2.5 is normal and I'm now considered high risk, getting harmony test done and seeing high risk specialist. Is this real life? At least I got to breathe for a few hours today.

  • We just had ours done yesterday and before we even started the tech told us that it is very common to not be able to see all they want because the baby moves so much at this stage. And that doesn't mean something is wrong it just means they will try again later.

It's hard not to worry. But I'd say you have good chances that everything is just fine!

  • Try to to stress too much.  Our NT scan took forever because the baby wouldn't get into position.  Had we not been the last appointment of the day we probably would have ended up going back.  Our tech got one quick measurement, but then baby flipped over and went to sleep and we ended up having to wait for baby to wake up baby then turned it's butt to us and refused to get into position.  We ended up having about a 40- 45 minute ultrasound session.

  • @destdave2013 it's okay mama! You're doing great, and I bet baby is doing great. How great it is that your little one is squrming away, moving around your belly and making it hard to see! I bet you'll have a little trickster on your hands :) Praying for peace for your mama heart...deep breaths!

  • @destdave2013 I'm sorry that the US didn't go as planned but it's totally normal. You've just got a busy baby in there dancing around, hopefully next week they will be able to get all the measurements they need. Try not to worry and stress, I know, easier said than done. Sending creepy internet hugs.
  • Hang in there!  Try to keep busy.  Prayers for comfort and peace of mind.

For the life of me I cannot remember what it was they were trying to see at DD's anatomy scan but we had to go back 3 times before they got the measurement they needed. She was just a busy little thing, still is lol.
Try and take a breath and relax. I know it's hard because until you see the baby again you won't be able to think about anything else but you've gotta try. Just remember baby doesn't know or care that the doctor wants measurements they are just happy hanging out moving their new little limbs.
Keep us updated for your next scan!

  • Thank you ladies. I'm trying hard to just talk it out and think positively. I tend to think the worst and felt like the baby was sitting still at a profile long enough to tell I couldn't really see a nasal bone and neither could the tech, but I'm no professional! But I'm going to have faith that because baby wasn't in the right position for the nuchal measurement, that the nose and chin weren't in a good position either. And that even if it's not there, that doesn't necessarily mean the worst. Thanks for hearing me out and for the kind words. It helps immensely.
  • with my first, there was a gas bubble that prevented them from getting the measurements they need, we had to go back, I was a bit nervous but everything was fine. things will be ok sometimes it's just the position of baby, very common. keep us posted.

  • We had to go back a second time for the anatomy scan bc DS wasn't in the right spot for it, even after an hour of trying.  It really isn't a big deal, and honestly unless you are an ultrasound tech/ doctor, it can be very hard to read the scans.  I'm sure your next one will be fine!

  • Our NT scan took forever too because they couldn't get the measurements.  I could've sworn the baby was showing a nice profile - I mean, *I* could see the little neck there, so why couldn't the tech get the measurements?  But she said the baby wasn't positioned correctly.  I guess my point is that things are not always what they may seem to our "untrained" eyes!  She also kept saying "there's the heartbeat!", but I couldn't see anything flickering to save my life.  Try to rest easy, Mama, I'm sure it will all be fine!

  • @destdave2013 I'm so sorry for the news. What an emotional rollercoaster. I've heard tons of stories where the doctor sees high risk measurements on the scan and everything turns out just fine. Try not to worry, although I'm sure that's impossible. The blood test is a good next step and will hopefully bring you some peace. Thinking of you!

  • Try to remember that all the NT tests do are give you odds, they don't give answers. I also know quite a few people who got put in lower odds after the scan but everything was just fine. Hopefully the further testing will give you some real answers that help settle your mind and lower the stress level!

  • So another person just wrote a post about her NT scan and I commented something similar on hers. So, I was always told that in the 3s was completely normal. Honestly, I don't remember exactly, but I want to say my sons was like 3.3 and he's perfectly healthy. I don't know what the average range is, but I could swear 3s was average. My first pregnancy had a nuchal fold of 5.9 which was way off the chart, and I would tell you that is something to be worried  about. The blood tests will definitely help to put your mind at ease (if that's possible at this point, I know!) But, just know that I'm pretty sure your number is pretty much normal. Hang in there momma!

  • Oh man, I'm sorry about the series of mixed news. Hoping for the best for you and baby. Glad you have the plan to get the blood tests and get more information. Thinking of you
