  • Make sure this is covered by your insurance. It's not covered under mine and they quoted me around $189 for 30 pills.

Yeah, this... I've heard even if insurance does cover it, it's around $80. I've heard it's just a combination of unisom and B6, but that may not be right.

  • Maybe ask your OB for some samples? Some offices offer them. I used it when I was pregnant with DS2 and it was a life saver. I just started using it again, and it's barely doing anything this pregnancy.

  • My RE gave me some samples of it. The problem is, the instructions say to take it at night and that you shouldn't drive after taking it. Not exactly helpful when you have to work. My friend took it and she said it took a while to kick in, but it never fully took her nausea away. Just kept it manageable until around 4 in the afternoon..I've only taken it once so far, didn't really feel that much of a difference the next day..

  • I take it. It needs to be taken on an empty stomach and some people need 3 pills a day instead of 2. It's expensive but if one is really suffering, worth trying.
  • It was a lifesaver for me during my 2nd PG! I felt great! I didn't throw up but I felt like I was on the verge all day every day before I started. Thanking my lucky stars I'm not that bad this time around. Also my insurance covered it and I had crappy insurance through "Obamacare"
  • Unisom and B6. Same chemical reaction. Fraction of the price.

  • I took it last pregnancy and this time. It works to get rid of the worst of the nausea, but not 100% in my case, even at the maximum dose. And it makes me very, very sleepy and thinking feels like wading through hip-deep piles of slush - hard to function at work.
  • I've been on Diclegis for a week now and it's amazing.  I hadn't been throwing up much but even the nausea alone had kept me from eating so I had lost almost 2 lbs in 2 weeks.  So far I've only needed the 2-pill dose at night, but a few days I took one more during the day because the nausea would kick in around dinner time.  But I've scaled back down to just 2 at night again and I'm doing just fine.

    *Question*
For those who have taken it for previous pregnancies, how do you know when you don't need it anymore?  I feel like some of my other symptoms are lightening up a little, so do I just not take it one day and see how I feel?

@juliebeannn I took it throughout my last pregnancy but I also continued to throw up the whole time. I was able to drop from three pills to two around 20 something weeks. Honestly, I think you should wait a little bit before stopping to let the placenta take more of the hormone load off but always take the least effective amount. So, if you want to try cutting back, drop one pill for a couple of days and see how you do.  Always check with your OB though.

  • B6 and Unisom has worked well for me. I still get nauseated, but it's much more manageable. I didn't realize how much it helped me until I forgot to take it night before last, which made yesterday just awful. So much vomit.

@juliebeannn when I took it, my PG ended in loss at 14w unfortunately so I stopped then. I would imagine you could try to stop after 1st tri when *most* nausea subsides

Also if I remember correctly the dr had me wean off of it, not just stop cold turkey. I would just ask your dr.
  • @amandarene112  I'm going to get Unisom and B12 today... how are you taking it? (How much, how often...)

  • @HollyGolightly09 I take 25 mg of B6 three times a day, once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once right before bed. I take the unison once a day with my last dose of B6. I could only find B6 in 100 mg tablets, so I just cut them. My doc said not to worry about them being exactly even.

  • @amandarene112 okay... thanks! I could only find 100 mg B6, too.

  • I've been taking 1 unisom tablet and 2 B6 tablets (50mg) at night and it has taken away the nausea. Before starting it the nausea was so bad and so unpredictable all I could do was sleep to avoid being sick.
The above dosing was what was recommended to me by my OB, she said it was so expensive even with insurance coverage for most she just recommended it this way.

  • Whoops I wish I saw this earlier. Hand this to your pharmacist for savings on your prescription!!

  • It is SIMILAR to but not the same as unisom & B6. I used it (diclegis) last pregnancy and have started to take it this pregnancy. I had to take it the entire pregnancy last time and wouldn't be surprised if I do this time. I do notice I am a little more drowsy in the mornings after taking it, but I'll take that any day as opposed to the knock you on your tail nausea ALL THE TIME. A lot of insurances make you try other things first....zofran, reglan, and the unisom/B6 combo.
  • All I know is I started taking it this week and was feeling pretty good. Then I decided to save up and not take them Friday night and I ended up throwing up most of yesterday. So I'm thinking they must work!
  • So im on day 3 of diclegis and im still sick most of the day. It also makes me super tired. I still vomited dinner but i think its because by that time the am pill has worn off. :(

  • @atthemoment what dosage are you taking/how many pills?
I think I took 2 at night but had the option to take another in the am but didn't need to
  • I take 2 at night and one in the am. I dont think ill take the optional 4th pill in the afternoon since i literally get so sleepy. It does help a little but not as much as i hoped for!

@atthemoment  Unfortunately, it is not a magic pill for most people. It works great for some but others have consistent nausea throughout. I think that your doctors should be monitoring your weight closely and if you are completely unable to keep down any fluids or food, you're going to need to reevaluate your plan and get hydrated.  Keep taking small sips of water as often as you can.  Tiny snacks throughout the day will help. I know this might not make you feel better, but I threw up with DS  most of the pregnancy and it really did get easier as time goes by. Just less frequently and more predictable. But it gets better.   I did not have HG and that is what they will be looking for with your weight.

  • Yes I used it during my first pregnancy along with zofran odt tabs. It was a lifesaver for me. I still lost close to 8 lbs in the first trimester but was not nearly as nauseated and vomited significantly less. I believe my copay was around $15 or $30 for 30 pills.

It it did make me very tired, but I didn't mind that side effect. I quit taking both around 12-14 weeks and no longer had N/V.

I got a script yesterday for this, and my insurance doesn't cover it-  $700.  I'd rather be nauseous.  I'm going to call and ask about taking unisom and b6 separately.  The diclegis website does have some savings stuff on it, but it will be cheaper getting them separately.  And maybe I won't need the unisom during the day- I thought the point of unisom was to help you sleep?
