Wondering if there are any other STM on here who's first was born prematurely. Are you getting the 17HP shots or getting any other specialized care? Are you having Braxton hicks yet? Nervous about preterm labor happening again?

My first was 34 weeks, PROM. Getting the shots weekly until hopefully 37 weeks but nervous about PROM happening again.

Yep! My son was born at 33 weeks. Started getting p17 injections at 16weeks and will continue until I deliver. I am being followed by ob as well as mfm doctor. I have appointments every 2 weeks and getting more frequent ultrasounds. My son was born due to pprom as well, they are checking my cervical length until 24 weeks which is a good indication of signs of preterm labor. My mfm doctor says the p1I injections help to reduce your risk to almost "normal". So I am hopeful it won't happen again. I feel with the closer monitoring I am in better hands to hopefully catch something before it becomes a problem.

There are quite a few preemie moms on this board I believe. There is also a high risk mama's thread. My first was 32 weeks due to PROM and I'm getting the 17HP shots which definitely helps put my mind at ease. I have had Braxton Hicks with both pregnancies starting consistently around 16 weeks. I'm nervous about this baby coming early as well and particularly how hard it would be with a one year old and a baby in the NICU.

My daughter was born at 35 weeks due to PROM. I was referred to a MFM this time around and he told me that progesterone doesn't help in those cases because the rupture is generally due to an infection. For those of you who are taking it, do/did you have problems with cervical length? Mine has been checked since 12 weeks and I was told that it is over double the length of what they consider to be good length, I'm wondering now if I shouldn't request to be put on progesterone just in case it does have the ability to reduce preterm labor. I want to do everything I can to keep this baby in until at least 39 weeks!!

I've had 2 preemies. With my last I did P17 injections, nifedipine to control contractions, and steroid shots. We're in a different country now and the MFM doesn't want to do anything yet. He's got more of a "wait and see" approach.

@Xath I've seen your comments a couple times about wait and see now. Have you looked at changing docs to someone who is more aggressive with high risks?

It's not really an option here. He really is the best OB in the region; I'd have to go to London to find someone with equivalent experience, and it's likely they'd take the same approach. The UK just has a much less interventionist approach than the US. My other option is to return to the States for delivery and go back to my old practice. That would mean leaving my husband and kids for several months, and I'd really like to avoid that if possible. We'll see what happens around 24-25 weeks. If everything is going smoothly, than clearly the minimal intervention thing is working. If I do start to contract and they decide to do nothing at that point, I'll probably look at going home.

@Xath if you don't mind me asking, what weeks were your 2 premies? Did the 17p help at all the second time?

@Allybiery that's my concern too, how I'd juggle a toddler with a baby in the NICU. Hope we both make it full term!

@harpyogi I started having PTL contractions at 24 weeks with DD1 and 22 weeks with DS2. I think the P17 did help a bit; my cervix never shortened and we were more successfully able to manage the PTL symptoms when they did show up.

Both were born at 35w, but with DS2 it wasn't because of the PTL. He'd wrapped the cord around his neck twice and his heart rate was decelerating so they wanted him out before it got worse.
