Re: Moms of Multiples Check-in 1.24

  • I've been really AWOL due to work. Yesterday was not a great day (see below) so maybe that will change a little.

    How far along are you?
    26 weeks

    How big are babies?
Head of lettuce. To be exact, A is at least 2 lbs and B is about 1 lb 7 oz.

    Appointments?
Had our first growth u/s (since the Anatoly scan showed 21% discordance between the babies). Now baby B is falling off the curve he/she was on in terms of growth velocity. They're about 28% discordant now, which is odd for di/di twins unless one placenta is really not doing well. B's umbilical flow is abnormal (consistent with a placental problem) and his/her belly is tiny in proportion to the rest of the body. Now I have weekly ultrasounds on the schedule to evaluate fluid, umbilical blood flow, and try to guess if/when little B is going to start entering a zone where being inside is more dangerous than being outside. We meet with MFM (maternal-fetal medicine -- essentially the high-risk OB provider) next week as well to talk more about IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction) and what may lie ahead....

    How are you feeling?
My body feels fine. My heart is trying hard to keep the rest of me together right now.

    Rants / Raves / Questions?
So many questions but none of them answerable right now.

Did you march this past weekend?
Wanted to, but had to work. We had an incredible turnout in my city.

    How big are babies?
Ovia app says Least Weasel, which is hilarious because that's what I called this baby (before we knew it was twins) "our little weasel"

    Appointments?
    Coming up this Monday.

    How are you feeling?
Currently pretty crappy. 4yr old gave me a cold brought home from preschool, thanks. Other than that, I'm okay this week. Getting tired quick but also getting better at pacing myself.

    Rants / Raves / Questions?
Rant - trying to get my house back in super organization mode but I can't keep up with everyone's crap being put in the wrong spot. Time for a stern sit down with the kids!!!
Rave - Had a fantastic weekend visiting with family and friends from out of town. Was very much needed before the babies get here!
Surprisingly no questions this week, so far....lol

Did you march this past weekend?
I did not. Too much going on, and too many out of towners in my house.
  • @mdlorenz Prayers to you and your babies and family.
  • @mdlorenz hugs!  We dealt with minor IUGR with our Baby B.  We weren't diagnosed until 32 weeks when I went on hospital bedrest so at that point we felt "safe".  We were still dealing with FFT issues until about 18 months.

I do do have a friend that had severe IUGR with her di/di identical and at 2 years old there is more than a 10lb weight difference.

Next Friday I have an appointment with my ob
    How are you feeling?
I've had all sorts of weird pelvic pains lately. I'm not a fan. Also, this past weekend the worst heartburn I have ever experienced. Luckily, Tums have provided some relief.
    Rants / Raves / Questions?
Baby movement has been kind of weird. For the longest time, I could only feel Baby B. Baby A has an anterior placenta, though, so that wasn't surprising. Now I am worried because the last few days, I have mainly been able to feel Baby A and can no longer feel much, if anything, from Baby B. I'm guessing maybe he changed positions or something. I know I probably shouldn't worry, but it concerns me a little because I had been feeling big, strong movements from him and now almost nothing.
Did you march this past weekend?
No, but I saw photos of friends who did and it was inspiring and looked like fun.

    Cantaloupes

Ultrasound Thursday! Time seems to pass so slowly when its almost time for an appointment!

I'm already feeling done like i did at the end of dds pregnancy, anyone else? I'm tired, don't want to bend bend, out of breath, and not sleeping well.

@Jellybeanqueen13 I'm sorry its been making you worry but it was reassuring to me to read your experience BC mine has been similar! Baby a moves alllllll day long and b, i get to the end of the day and realize i never felt her move. Both my placentas are anterior so it must just be positioning.

And no i didnt go to the rally. I wish they could have proven their point without being so vulgar but it was peaceful atleast.
  • @Jkp7749 Yep! That is exactly what it has been like. I feel some movement so I don't worry, but then I realize it has only been movement on one side from one baby then my mind is all over the place with worry. In general, it feels like there is just so much more to worry about with twins.

I also feel the same about being done with this pregnancy. I already feel so uncomfortable and big and can't sleep and have terrible heart burn. I just keep thinking back to my first pregnancy with my daughter. By 23 weeks I was still feeling amazing, only had the tiniest bump, and was exercising daily. This time around, it is just so different. May seems so far away!  :#

Just had an ultrasound! I know why I can't feel b- she isn't where I thought she was! A is head down, but B is breech/transverse, so basically her head is on the left side of my belly, but her feet and hands are on the same side as A so I'm feeling them both on the same side! Also, B has a ton of fluid so they said it would take harder movements to feel her anyway!

After my appointment I have a few questions for y'all! How many appointments/ultrasounds will you have? I thought I saw that after 24 weeks you get seen more frequently, but my OB today made it sound like I will continue to be monthly until 32 weeks, and will have u/s at those appointments. Then after 35 it would be weekly appointments but I don't think they were for u/s.

Next question: Were/are your babies somewhat discordant? I thought mine were the same, but today they measured them and based on lbs they don't seem far apart (1lb6oz) and (1lb10oz) but they said that is 13% discordance and that that's fine, they don't do anything until there is greater than a 20% discordance. I am glad they said it's nothing to worry about, but thinking they were the same and then hearing that makes me a little nervous.

ETA: Just remembered that I had read about some discordance earlier this week, so I looked back through the thread! @mdlorenz I'll be thinking about you and your babies,I hope B starts catching back up!

@chickyclg Basically I'm wondering if mine will likely stay around the 13% they are now, or if it's something that increases with time... so since you weren't diagnosed with it until 32, had they been steadily increasing in discordance? or were they the same up until your 32 week?
  • @Jkp7749 mine always measured very differently but for the longest time A was the smaller baby (we thought he was going to be a vanishing twin).  He caught up around 28 weeks and and then baby B's growth started measuring a little behind at my 30 week appt.  When I went into labor the MFM came in to talk to me about her growth and had the Neonatologist counsel me on risks/benefits and we were monitored every couple hours until I had them 2 weeks later.

  • @Jkp7749
My babies are always in a different spot than they were at the last ultrasound. Even with less room, they still manage some impressive acrobatics.

My schedule was going to be monthly visits until 28 wks then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks then weekly until delivery. Now we are on a weekly umbilical flow ultrasound pathway. Still with same prenatal visit schedule (so far). Could end up with more frequent monitoring (NST two times per week - essentially the same monitors as you get with twins during labor - the fetal heart rate and contraction monitors). Ultrasounds were actually not going to be frequent (since the twins appear to be di/di) until they were 21% discordant at the anatomy scan. Now that they are 28% discordant with B having abnormal umbilical blood flow we are on the weekly ultrasound plan. It's a little nuts. I only had one ultrasound (anatomy scan) with my first. This is just a whole different ballgame...

Wishing you totally boring stable growth at your next ultrasound!

  • @Jkp7749 I don't know what my schedule is with my appointments. I am 24 weeks tomorrow and as of now I have been having an ultrasound with mfm specialist and an ob visit once a month. I don't really know what to expect next though. I probably should ask.  :D

Mine were 11% discordant at my last ultrasound and my mfm specialist didn't seem concerned. I don't know what is considered normal though.

    25w3d

    How big are babies?
Baby A is 1lb5oz, B is 1lb6oz; the size of cauliflower according to The Bump!!

    Appointments?
Our next OB appt is Feb 13! I have the 1 hr glucose Feb 6. We have our multiples class at our hospital Feb 9:)

    How are you feeling?
i am overal just tired. It's life. Keeping up with our 14yo and 11yr olds schedules are taxing in the evenings and our poor 9mo just gets carted everywhere. I am getting bi-weekly foot reflexology and leg massages now and that seems to help relax me.

    rant?rave?questions?
rant is cleaning. I hate it! We are reorganizing everything in the house, switching bedrooms, etc and I feel like mess won't go away.
and stroller shopping is the devil!

rave is DH is one amazing guy!

question: I'm wondering if, with di di, they will let me try to go longer. I don't want to be induced if everything is ok, but have learned reading a bit that it really depends on your practice/hospital.
  • @Bear0408 With my di/di twins they are not letting me go past 38 weeks
