Bleeding in 1st Trimester

Hello ladies,

I'm 6 weeks 1 day pregnant with a singleton after an FET.

On Friday we had our 1st ultrasound and saw our beautiful baby as well as a little heartbeat everything was great.  About 4 hours after the ultrasound I started bleeding, brownish first than a little red.  All in all from start to finish it was maybe 1.5 hours where I had some sort of spotting.  I called my RE office and they didn't seem concerned as I had just been there that morning.

My question to all of you is has anyone experiencing any sort of bleeding that was red in color and continue on with your pregnancy.  I'm obviously a nervous mess and part of me wants to go in tomorrow for bloodwork and another ultrasound and part of me is afraid I'll bleed again.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

A little bit of bleeding after a transvaginal ultrasound isn't super abnormal, as a big instrument was bumping up against your cervix, which is extra tender and vascularized in pregnancy. I never had red blood after mine, but definitely on several occasions had brown spotting. That being said, if you're worried, push to go back in. They shouldn't be discouraging you from being seen. If for whatever reason they won't, there's always emergency rooms and other obs....

    Hi @christinav2015! Congratulations!!!!!!
Bleeding is scary, yet very often nothing to worry about.
I had bright red bleeding in week 5/6 for two days a day stop and back on.
While replying to you I am holding my gorgeous little girl Pia.

Try not to worry (easier said than done) but if you feel something is off, demand a check up.
Their job is to calm your nerves.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months.

Hi @ChristinaV2015 sorry you're going through this. It's very scary. I also had various short bleeds/spotting - both brown and a little bit of red as well, also mostly after ultrasounds. It totally freaked me out. I think it only stopped around week 9. I'm now 19 weeks.
A lot of ladies here have had some form of spotting in their first trimester so it's not unusual. Thinking of you.

My OB told me that bleeding is only a concern if you fill a pad within 45 minutes. Otherwise, it's normal. Yours sounds normal to me!

    TW loss mentioned

I think bleeding in first tri has to take a lot of factors, not just the red blood into consideration. I bled with this pregnancy around 6 weeks (a little red, for a couple hours) and I am now 20 weeks. My doctor did get me in for betas, which were rising appropriately, but they made me wait until 7 weeks for an ultrasound. With my miscarriage, I had no bleeding until I miscarried at 9 weeks. However, I had very minimal symptoms and really never "felt" pregnant during the pregnancy.

For what it's worth, I think bleeding after a trans vaginal ultrasound is pretty normal, especially if you are on vaginal progesterone. I was on crinone and it didn't take much for me to spot at all during that time.

I had pretty bad bleeding at about week 8 or 9. It started very suddenly one night. The doctor saw me the next day and the baby was fine. I was told that the sac had separated a little. The bleeding slowed down over night,  but started up again a few times before it gradually got lighter over the next several weeks.  It completely stopped by week 15. Bleeding can happen for different reasons,  hopefully your doctor will see you right away to determine what is going on.

Similar to @wifeinraleigh28 , my RE told me there isn't any worry on spotting and the cause for concern if if you are filling a pad in an hour. I know it's still scary though!!

I totally understand how scary it is! I had bleeding a few times early on- once it was bright red the other times it was more dark brown. Mine was attributed to a subchorionic hematoma and then also I had bleeding after vaginal ultrasounds and a Pap smear. Your cervix is really sensitive during pregnancy so it is possible that the ultrasound caused irritation.. since it happened shortly after the ultrasound that would make sense. Hope everything is ok!

So, I started bleeding this morning again. Im 10w 5d. It was light bleeding, just some spotting and is already turning over to brown. I'm pretty sure it is because I did way too much this weekend. I had to get ready for Christmas so of course I was all over the mall, cleaning my house, wrapping presents, setting crap up. I think I pushed too hard. BUT of course part of me is still really worried. It is hard not to worry. Calling my doctor as SOON as they open.

I have been experiencing spotting too at 10w 2d. Light pink in the morning then turns to brown throughout the day. It's heavier if I've been active, but never enough to fill a pad. Luckily, I have a great doctor who agreed to see me right away. My appointment is later today and I'm very nervous. Full disclosure- I started bawling my eyes out when I first discovered I was spotting and called the on-call doctor, who had to calm me down before telling me I was probably fine! There is just something alarming about seeing blood and not knowing what's causing it. I have so much empathy for you other mommies who are coping with this really stressful symptom!

Didn't want to start a new thread so I'm adding this one...
I had some slight bleeding last night. Started out light pink, got worse over night but never really "that bad"  but seems to have slowed down now. I'm 11w 2d - on the home stretch I felt. Now I'm dying inside. It's is what happened last time although I'm way farther along.
I'm hoping maybe when inserted the progesterone I did something. But also started taking baby aspirin Thursday. I'm calling my RE when I get up and actually see the high risk ob today...hopefully it's nothing!!

Thank you @byrneme. I'm hoping it's ok - it seems to have stopped. Last year when I had my loss I never actually bled through a pad. Just had light flow/spotting for a week. I'm so worried but I'm thinking it was the suppository. They seem kind like dry, they don't come out of the plastic very easily. So maybe that being rough coupled with taking the aspirin last night.

I had a large gush of blood at 8 weeks and everything was okay! Bleeding is so scary- but doesnt necessarily mean its a bad thing.
I had to switch off off progestrone inserts due to irritation and bleeding. Maybe since you have been doing it so long, youre irritated as well and bleeding is a symptom of it.

If it stopped, Im sure you have nothing to worry about. But call you doctor and go for a scan to help you feel better!!

I had a bit of bleeding due to a subchorionic hematoma early on. Bleeding can be very typical so I hope it is all ok for you. It definitely could be irritation from the suppositories. Usually Dr's say as long as it is dark brown or pinkish then they don't worry about it. But, I did have red blood a few times and it turned out to be totally fine. For peace of mind don't be afraid to ask to be seen! @jwatt5

I'm sorry to hear about all these scares but thrilled everyone seems fine! I, too, had some spotting and bright red blood drops around 5 1/2 weeks...I was terrified. But basically my RE wasn't concerned and said its such a vascular area that any straining (or interface with a hard object like the ultrasound wand) could cause some irritation and bleeding. It has not happened since and I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow-but I still look when I go to the bathroom because that fear is so strong!

There are plenty of totally normal and safe reasons why you might bleed, so i know how frightening it is, but keep the faith <3
