Maternity clothing

Re: Maternity clothing

  • I personally enjoy full panel.  I have a bit of a belly before pregnancy and had issues with the half band, they always slipped down on me.  Full panel leggings are pretty awesome with tunics.  I had no idea H&M had a maternity section.  I mainly shop at Motherhood.

  • Bought my first official maternity piece! A tank dress from Target for $7.99.

What I really need are pants, though.

I feel so lucky to get to ask this, but what do I do for swimwear? I have several 2piece mix and match items, but with my breasts so huge (I'm estimating I have gone from a 34DD to a 36FF) they all feel vulgar. I need 2 good options soon (February 11th) and also plan to swim often in may/at the end (EDD 6/11). Should I buy a maternity 1 piece? Are there some modest 2piece options? I don't mind to show my belly, but my breasts are just ridiculous. I should also probably get a swim skirt, based on grooming limitations :)
My boobs went from a 36DDD to a 36I. I went with a tankini, and was glad. I wore a medium bottom, but had to go with an xl top to keep from looking like a porn star.

  • All of my maternity pants with full or partial paneling slide down all day. I ordered the motherhood ankle pants today. Any tips? The belly band isn't working as well anymore
  • @NYCProf I'm taller, like barely a smidgen shorter than 5'8" and I would say ankle boots would work but definitely have a small gap (probably 1" on me with my pair of black suede Clarks ankle boots) depending on the boot and how high it comes up the leg/ankle.  I'm a big flats person...  also, they are form fitting/snug but I think they are pretty true to size if not slightly smaller... not enough to order up a size though IMO.

Here is a pic to help show where they hit my ankles.

Thanks for the info! I got a pair of navy blue. They're buy one get one 50% off now. Got a medium although it said I should get a small. Read they kind of run smaller and I have big thighs and hips... I'm 5'2! I hope they fit! I wear ballet flats, but too cold in NYC these days.
  • @rmarble23 I know. I am on the lower end of lane Bryant's sizing scale and I have to wear 2x from kohl's.  They only go to 3x.... pregnancy is all about a woman getting bigger but apparently there are rules on how much bigger or where you are allowed to start.

Ditto! I have only over the belly maternity pants, and they slowly ride down if I'm up and about. I have to hitch them every 5-10 minutes! It's so annoying and I don't know what to do.
  • michaela0704 I just got them today. I'm also ordering the black ones now. I hope they don't fall down. I was pulling up black jegggings all day at work!! @lovesclimbing
  • @NYCProf they aren't like any of my pre-pregnancy work pants but I really like them, glad you do too!

I'm starting to really hate maternity pants...never been a big fan of regular pants either lol.
The side panel are sitting too low and the full panel fall down and sag. Ughhhhhhhh. Leggings seem to be my only option now.

  • @jennas312 have you tried folding the full panel down to double it? That's what I'm doing at the moment and for some of my pants it works better

  • I got my box of clothes from my friend yesterday! Unfortunately none of the jeans fit :( my ass is too big! She had a nice mix of long sleeved and short sleeved as well as a super cute maxi dress I can wear to a baby shower! I'm going to have to get another pair of jeans I think. And leggings haha

  • Is anyone almost out of all their non maternity clothes? I wore a sweater to go to some baby stores with dh last night and noticed my belly poppy out. Lol oops. I'm still wearing my bigger tops to work.  I haven't actually purchased any maternity tops yet, just large tunic tops.
Pants are all done except sweats and leggings. I'm afraid to try maternity leggings since I havent had much luck with maternity pants in general.

Yes, other than some long tunic tops and a couple shirts that I have for PP and are too large for non-pregnant/pregnancy recovering me. I have shirts that I haven't worn in two years due to being pregnant two winters in a row!
  • just came from quite the shopping trip at motherhood...all plus size is either buy one get one 50% off or buy one get one free so i got a bunch of pants for work, yay!

That's great! The H&Ms I go to have no maternity. I need to chill out with all the money I've been spending on maternity. I've gone a bit overboard and have ended up returning quite of bit of stuff. I'll just try to make do with what I have. It's annoying wearing those big band pants that fall down all day. I'll try to pair them with the bella band to see if that helps. My belt is getting tight.

The Motherhood Maternity ankle pants are amazing and don't fall down!! They're 40% off today!
  • Anyone have any luck finding shorts? (If you have been looking) I have a family vacation at the end of March and havent really seen many options out there yet. Hoping more pop up in the next month.

Also -- any suggestions on bikini tops that fit particularly well? Have more support? From the bigger chested women - what cut works best? As someone with typically small ta-ta's, I jumped from an small B to a D already and have no idea how to keep the girls in line at the beach.

  • I need a semi-dressy (not necessarily formal, but easily dressed up) maternity dress. It's so hard to find anything that will actually fit me! So many maternity dresses just look loose and sloppy. I like fitted, above-knee length dresses. But I'm 5'1" and fairly small (110 pre-pregnancy). Nearly everything is too big/too long and I already wear the smallest size in most brands, so sizing down is rarely an option. Bump is too big for non-maternity. This is getting rather exhausting.

I found shorts at kohls on clearance for $4 each! Most stores don't have a lot of maternity. If you can't find any there look online! Also, I was at old navy and got a pair of capris for $0.97!!! I saw a few pairs of shorts when I was there too.

  • I found some cute denim shorts at Target for $10 in November. I live in Texas, so the weather is different everyday. So glad I picked them up when I did - I've worn them more than jeans!
  • Why can't maternity pants have belt loops?!?! I always have to get a size bigger in pants because my ass and thighs are so big but then they are too big around the hips/waist!!

This!  Even if I wasn't using the belt loops for a belt, I feel like it would make pulling them up easier when they start the inevitable slide as I'm walking around.

Gap jeans 1969 inset panel maternity has loops. I just need a new belt! Wearing the bella band on top has helped a bit today. Only purchase these with 40% off discount. They usually post several times per week.

Agreed! I am 5'"1 as well but a tad heavier than you. I needed a dress as well and found two different options. I got one at target and one at H&M. I tried them on to show my husband and he said the target dress made me look "as big as a house" and the h&m dress made me look like a little kid. I think the target dress is my best option even though I like I'm wearing a trash bag tied around the middle.

Yes, why in the world is everything so long?! It doesn't help that midi-length is in right now.
Well, I ordered a black knit maternity dress on Gap's website that says it hits "mid-thigh", so I may have finally found a dress that will hit above my knees! It's not exactly dressy but I think I can dress it up.

I have a pair of jeans that have loops with the full panel, i got them from JCPenny and thats exactly what i use them for, pulling up since they wont stay up

Has anyone bought nursing bras yet? I am up from 34E to 36I at 22 weeks and I just ordered an inexpensive wireless bra on Amazon for some relief. Is it too early to invest in a nursing bra? Do you plan for your cup size to increase even more in 3rd tri/post partum? Do most people use an extender so you can tighten the band a lot after delivery, or do you just find something that fits on the loosest hook? Sorry for the long post, my boobs have a lot of questions.

Edit: Added 22 weeks for reference
  • @HgPa my friend gave me a nursing bra and I bought 2 from Target. I went from a 34B to a 36C but the nursing bras seem bigger than the normal 36C's. My other friend also gave me a nursing tank which I LOVE and I need to get more! Oh and I got a nursing sleep bra off amazon and I wore it to bed when my boobs were super duper sore (TMI, I normally sleep topless). It was good for support and then my nips didn't hurt from rubbing on the blanket!

60% off at The Loft online today.
  • Just got my second Stitch Fix and it was awesome. I guess they just needed a month to fine tune. Skinny jeggings that are nicer than my non-maternity ones and really cute tops that you can't find in stores here.  :)

Anyone invest in a maternity coat? My current size s parker still fits, but I'll be hitting 6 months in 2 weeks and hear that that's when the belly really starts growing (it's my first pregnancy). I just got one from Old Navy for $35. I've read about ladies borrowing their husband's coats or just plus sizing, but I want to look half decent when I got to work. It's business casual

I just got an XL coat from the goodwill. My job doesn't require nice clothing though! I just switched to it at 19 weeks and it's still huge but I'd rather be warm and not have a tight coat!
