High-Risk Pregnancy

subchorionic hematoma

SO, I have a sub chorionic hematoma ( you can see in the image). This was done yesterday at 10 weeks. Baby is measuring 10 weeks exactly with a hr of 170 but the hematoma is giving me anxiety. Especially since I can't tell where the placenta is in relation to it. I have no idea what I am looking for! I have such anxiety.

Re: subchorionic hematoma

  • Did they tell you how big it is? I had one with my first pregnancy and it was diagnosed at 7 weeks as I had some bleeding... by my 12 week ultrasound it was already smaller and by my 20 week ultrasound completely gone! Try and stay calm! It never caused me any problems, I just followed doctors orders, took it easy for a bit etc and it took care of itself.
  • unfortunately they did not tell me the size of it. just that it was on the bigger side. My dr didn't give me any restrictions.

  • Loading the player...
  • well double check with your doc if they want you on any restrictions.. I believe mine were just no strenuous exercise, and no sex for a few weeks until I had another ultrasound and they saw it was getting smaller... but that could have just been my OB being super cautious too... try and not worry about it, I remember reading tons of articles on it when I had mine and it's very common and often goes away without issue on it's own.. goodluck!
  • I just received the same news yesterday. I am 9 weeks and I was told to take it easy for the next 3 weeks. No heavy lifting, no sex, just relax and try yoga.  My anxiety level was through the roof yesterday too. Vomiting everything I ate and a headache.  This is my third pregnancy.  I have been reading lots of comments, blogs, articles and I am shocked to see how common it is.  I haven't had any bleeding and ultra sound showed a perfect little nugget and strong heartbeat.  After reading all the other people's experiences it has helped in lowering my anxiety.  I hope this helps. It has helped me by talking about it.

I've had a SCH with both pregnancies.
    They are pretty common.

The first one in June was very large and didn't bleed itself out. In the end it got so large it separated my pregnancy from my uterus and I had a D&C at 8 weeks.
For me it wasn't traumatic. It is what it is.

This pregnancy I was dx with a small one at 6w and it bled itself out ( thought I was having another miscarriage ) at 10 weeks.
Im 38 weeks now and after it bled out it disappeared by 11 weeks. No issues since

It will either bleed itself out, the body will reabsorb it, or it could chill/ grow and potentially not cause an issue but regardless there's nothing you can really do to change the outcome good or bad.
  • I had one diagnosed at 8wk ultrasound, shrank each ultrasound until 18 weeks when it was gone completely. A friend had one that ruptured at 13wks and bled like crazy and then gone 2 wks later when she had the next ultrasound. completely healthy pregnancy otherwise. good luck, try not to google too much... they are pretty common and usually shrink/disappear by mid-pregnancy.

  • I would just take it easy and try not to stress!  Everyone is different, some people bleed out their SCH and others just go away.  For me, I had a heavy bleed at 12 weeks (filled 3 overnight pads in 30 minutes) - went to the emergency room where they thought for sure I had a miscarriage.  But sure enough my baby was dancing around in the ultrasound.  Dr.  put me on bed rest for a bit for a couple of weeks and told me not to have intercourse, or exercise.  I don't think the SCH went away until about 20-24 weeks.   Had a healthy baby girl at 35w 4d!  Don't drive yourself crazy and google too much about it!  I was a mess when I found out about the SCH - I'm sure the stress didn't help my situation.
