    How big is baby?

    Lemon

    Upcoming appointments this week?

    Not for two weeks.

    Any new symptoms or changes?

More energy and appetite is back, wahoo.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

A power line is down in my neighborhood and there have been people out cutting down trees, using a wood chipper, and shouting since 4am.  It stinks that they have to be doing this on a Sunday and I appreciate that we have power, but it's SO loud, grrrrr.

GTKYAs you continue planning and prepping for baby, what is one thing you will not budge on - as in, it's your way or the highway? (E.g. The crib, the unmedicated birth, the bf'ing, the paint color of the nursery, etc)

I'm trying to be as flexible as I can this time.  I'd love to breastfeed for 12 months again but it was freaking hard in the beginning so as long as baby is fed, I'll be happy and try to relax!

    Upcoming appointments this week? Nope

Any new symptoms or changes? Restless legs have kicked in a bit more than usual lately. Oh... and I'm sure everyone has been dying for an update on my congestion situation from last week: my husband is sick now, and I'm much better, so knock-on-wood I won't be THAT congested for the rest of my pregnancy! Hallelujah!

Rants/Raves/Questions? I am really getting ahead of myself here, but I'm a little stressed about how to set boundaries with a particular friend from college as we approach baby shower time. I don't want this particular person to be involved at all and I'm not totally sure how to deal with it, or what kind of shower to have. She is the kind of person who is territorial and would likely be offended if I asked others from our college circle to be involved but not her. (We have not been close since college, so I thought the boundaries were clear, but it has all come up again with her wedding this fall.)

GTKYAs you continue planning and prepping for baby, what is one thing you will not budge on - as in, it's your way or the highway? (E.g. The crib, the unmedicated birth, the bf'ing, the paint color of the nursery, etc) It's hard to think of anything specific, but we're trying to move this spring, and I've noticed my opinions about how we'd set up the new place are a LOT stronger now that there is a future little one to think of.

    My bump popped! So exciting!!
My hormones are in rage mode. Woof.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
DH continues to be amazingly understanding and supportive. DS is at the most adorable age. I want to freeze time so badly.

I'm a fanatic about skin care products and even moreso re: my children. I don't use products with petrolatum, parabens, mineral oil, etc. and won't use anything but coconut oil on an infant.  Even if we are gifted something, if it has these ingredients or chemicals in it, I won't use it - giveaway or donate or toss. I am not preachy or vocal about this, it's just what we do.

    Any new symptoms or changes?

I mostly feel better, but get headaches if I don't drink enough water. My least favorite symptom is high blood pressure, I don't know what's going on but I'm sort of freaking out.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

I'm just ready for this to be less scary. I wanna coast. Has anyone had high BP this early? What did they do for you?

BFing- I've always been incredibly stubborn on it. Also I really want one of these mom friendly c/s- I want my baby right away and I'm prepared to be obnoxiously persistent about it.

Ooh what do you use for soap and moisturizer? We use coconut oil for everything but wondering if there's another moisturizer option out there.

We picked American-friendly Irish names, Eamon and Maura. She doesn't give two craps about what boy name we pick. But if it's a girl, she thought it needed to be more "feminine" and "fabulous." My sister named her daughter Francesca, which my mother loves.

@chiquita928 Ugh your mom reminds me of mine. Then only time I can remember her being excited about anything is when I told her about the pregnancy (and even then, she just said "I'm excited" in the most deadpan unenthusiastic way possible).

you should tell your mom what I told my mom when she disapproved of even the possibility that we would move while I'm pregnant: "This. Isn't. About. You."

@Twinkiedoll She at least admitted, "Good thing it's not my kid!" She's usually not overly emotional about much, so I didn't expect her to be squealing with joy, but a simple, "I'm so glad you've chosen," would have been less hurtful. Usually I don't take much to heart with her because she can be like this. I was so excited, though, that I thought she'd at least pretend..

Edited bc autocorrect is my nemesis.

@satsumasandlemons Yup. I wanted to know how many boys named Maura she's met. I also don't get it, because my sister and I are named Lindsay and Corinne. They're not exactly "fabulous" names. What's gonna KILL her, though, is I want to use her middle name (Bridget) as our girl middle name, and she hates it.

    Edited bc seriously autocorrect?!
  • @chiquita928 Maura is completely feminine and fabulous!  I love your name choices, sorry you are getting negative feedback.  I think grandparents just feel so much ownership over our kids sometimes that they feel like they should get a day in choices like this.  Silly!

  • @chiquita928 - I love Maura, I think it is feminine and classic but not common. As long as you don't nickname Maury. Your potential daughter is going to be fabulous and doesn't need a name to prove it

My dreams are so vivid and lucid I wake up exhausted!
    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Pretty proud of myself I've already scored a few work-perfect maternity dresses and skirts for almost nothing, an arms reach co-sleeper (free), my friend's infant car seat and base, two bags of infant clothing ($30), and just scored a pair of citizens maternity jeans and a pair of mavi jeans on eBay ($50 for both). My only rant is that one of those two infant clothing bags is mostly newborn and 0-3 which, if this one is anything like the first, won't ever even fit.

GTKYAs you continue planning and prepping for baby, what is one thing you will not budge on - as in, it's your way or the highway? (E.g. The crib, the unmedicated birth, the bf'ing, the paint color of the nursery, etc)
I'm pretty set on bf'ing but I was able to bf with success last time so hoping it'll happen again this time but one thing - one thing I'm intent on getting is receiving blankets and baby blankets that I absolutely love. I was team green and so didn't really  think about designs for whatever reason but now I want pretty ones dammit. (ANd not like, pretty as in it's going to scream girl, just want something that I really connect with - I'm kind of leaning towards looking for black and white patterned or indigo shibori style if I can find it.

And name, now that @chiquita928 mentioned it. I'm pretty set on the name.

Thank you, that's EXACTLY what we were going for.  Our name requirements have always been: Irish, uncommon, spellable, and pronounceable (from being a teacher). And no, Maury is NOT happening!!
  • @chiquita928 question is it pronounced "more-a" or "mar-a"?

  • @satsumasandlemons Thanks, at least some people do haha!
  • @chiquita928 I agree with everyone else above, Maura is a lovely classic yet unique name

Upcoming appointments this week? Nothing for 3 more weeks now.

Any new symptoms or changes? Some new headaches and dizziness. Starting to actually get hungry again.

Rants/Raves/Questions? It’s a girl! It was really exciting to do some shopping with my mom yesterday to get a few pink things. Makes things seem more real.

GTKY: As you continue planning and prepping for baby, what is one thing you will not budge on - as in, it's your way or the highway? (E.g. The crib, the unmedicated birth, the bf'ing, the paint color of the nursery, etc) FTM so trying to not be too rigid on anything. I’m pretty set on breastfeeding , but we’ll see on the rest.

  • @chiquita928 @mslynn2012 @twinkiedoll Add me to the list of people whose parents were less-than-enthused by our favorite names. They asked us what we were considering, and I should have gone with my husband's lead - he was hesitant to reveal - but instead I got overly excited and told them. They basically nodded and gave us suggestions for finding additional names. UGH. It's good to know there are others going through the same thing and that this does not mean our name is any less awesome. But I totally should have kept it to myself.

My BFF and I have never really seen eye to eye on names so I'm not surprised but this is how our convo went:
bff: so have you thought of names?
Me: yeah, almost sure this is a mar.got (don't blow my cover, @chiquita928!!!)
    bff: silence.
Bff: well, since we're not going to have anymore, you can have our girl name - Zoe.
Me: it's okay, it's such a popular name around here.
Bff: it just reminds me of... escargot.

  • @satsumasandlemons Well, since she isn't a snail, and is actually a human baby, I'm sure your BFF will get used to it. Smh. The audacity.

    How far along are you?

16 weeks (what the hell, it's going so fast!!!)

    How big is baby?

    An avocado

    Upcoming appointments this week?

Have to get my remaining blood work done. I hate needles, but I must say I'm getting pretty used to them at this point.

    Any new symptoms or changes?

Still feeling withdrawal symptoms from ceasing my SSRI's, but I think I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. On the preggo side of things, 3 days ago I felt very heavy in my pelvis region and felt everything stretching out and moving. It was hard to get up off the couch and I was very uncomfortable. Yesterday I poked my belly and realized that my uterus has grown up to just under my belly button! Its bazaar to me that I can actually feel my belly growing.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

I was pretty fit before I got pregnant. Yesterday I walked up a hill I've walked up a hundred times with no problem, but I had to stop and catch my breath twice. Not impressed by that.

GTKYAs you continue planning and prepping for baby, what is one thing you will not budge on - as in, it's your way or the highway? (E.g. The crib, the unmedicated birth, the bf'ing, the paint color of the nursery, etc)

I will cloth diaper come hell or high water.

    Edit: Formatting
  • @satsumasandlemons I've heard different versions, but some hospitals use a clear drape so you can see the baby being born (I'm eh on that). More importantly immediate skin to skin with mama and breastfeeding in the OR if possible. I'd love to have delayed cord clamping too if it's an option.

  • @chiquita928

I think that's a lovely girls name you've chosen. Its so rude that anyone, but especially family, would put down a name you're set on. I've heard my fair share of names that I don't really like, but I keep my mouth shut because it's not my kid and I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. We're keeping our names secret from family and friends for exactly this reason. Don't let anyone sway you!
  • @chiquita928 I loved the show Newsradio, partly because of my girl crush on Maura Tierney. So I absolutely love that name. Not that you need my--or anyone's--approval.  :)
  • I'm a fanatic about skin care products and even moreso re: my children. I don't use products with petrolatum, parabens, mineral oil, etc. and won't use anything but coconut oil on an infant.  Even if we are gifted something, if it has these ingredients or chemicals in it, I won't use it - giveaway or donate or toss. Ooh what do you use for soap and moisturizer? We use coconut oil for everything but wondering if there's another moisturizer option out there.
DH and I use Origins products, and DH also uses Dr. Bronner's, but I don't really like it. (I saw one post that Origins has bad things in it, but looking into it further, I couldn't find anything to back that up.) For DS, we occasionally use Honest Company lotion. In the past, I've also used Kiss My Face products.

I've thought of another "my way or the highway":
DH and I don't tell anyone our names before the baby is born. Especially not our opinionated parents!!
My mother is also mad we're Team Green. She's an amazing seamstress and wants time to make things. I told her part of why we're "Green" is so we aren't flooded with pink if it's a girl! Gender (sex) neutral really isn't that hard.
  • How far along are you?
14 weeks (plus 1, since I'm late posting)
    How big is baby?
The size of a beet, which my husband is happy for because he can finally picture it.
    Upcoming appointments this week?
    Nada
    Any new symptoms or changes?
Still nauseous. C'mon, first trimester, you're over now! Also, two different people have told me I'm "glowing", lol.
    Rants/Raves/Questions?
I'm starting to get to the "I have so much to do and I don't know where to start" thing. How do you decide what to buy used? I reviewed the registry, but I'm not sure when a shower will be. Which brings me to my second question. My mom suggested that she'd throw two showers. One in CT, where most of my family is, which is much closer for my husband's family than Boston would be. And the other in Boston or somewhere close, for friends. I'd appreciate any shower, obviously, but would you see it as gift-grabby? The invite lists wouldn't overlap at all, except for maybe my mother and sister.
GTKYAs you continue planning and prepping for baby, what is one thing you will not budge on - as in, it's your way or the highway? (E.g. The crib, the unmedicated birth, the bf'ing, the paint color of the nursery, etc)
I have no idea, honestly.I'd like to bf. I'd like not to have a c-section. Our nursery is already a nice color. I figure, for now, I'll just go with the flow.

    @chiquita928 I really like your names :)
  • Thanks for doing this! I was able to lurk here and there yesterday but never enough time to post

How far along are you? 17 weeks (+ 1 day)

How big is baby? a pomegranate, and according to my ticker, a large order of fries, which makes me want fries! I have been craving it soooo much. Especially mcdonald's/wendy's fries

Upcoming appointments this week? I had one today! Just a routine appt, but nice to hear the baby's heartbeat again and be reminded that it is really in there and growing! It was moving a bunch, running away from the doppler, though I couldn't feel much of it

Any new symptoms or changes? I'm starting to get some back pain after standing for a while, like after rounds, and also my ankles are swelling at the end of the day. I guess I should start wearing compression socks?  Also bending is starting to be uncomfortable for me.

    Rants/Raves/Questions? none today!

GTKYAs you continue planning and prepping for baby, what is one thing you will not budge on - as in, it's your way or the highway? (E.g. The crib, the unmedicated birth, the bf'ing, the paint color of the nursery, etc) I don't think so?  I'll have to think about this one
