Guys I'm panicking! I had a ultrasound done yesterday (I had a terrible uti and went to the ER) anyway the ultrasound tech couldn't tell me anything but when I asked if there was a heartbeat she smiled at showed me the monitor and said "shhhh" "don't tell anyone I showed you" and I didn't know what to look for so I assumed there was. Then the doctor came to read the results told me I was 6 weeks 2 days there was a yolk sac and a fetal pole and everything looked to be expected then I asked him if there was a heart beat and he didn't really answer me and just explained yet again what a fetal pole was and drew a few blobs on a whiteboard and said that's what the embryo looks like.  Well I figured I guess that's normal and went home, but then googled (google is the devil) and all these people were saying they saw a strong heart beat by then blah blah blah and I started to panic! Is this normal? the ER doc I could tell didn't have a lot of OB experience but I figured he knew what he was talking about.  :'(

  • @HollyGolightly09 thank you! Sorry I'm just a wreck....on top of this  my grandma who I'm very close to is in the hospital and it's not looking good and with all these hormones I can't handle anything like a rational person
  • @Breath_Easy92 I completely get it! It's easier to have perspective when it is someone else. Hope your grandma starts getting better!

  • @Breath_Easy92 I think a lot of the time the heartbeat doesn't start until 7 weeks which is why typically the first ultrasound happens at 8 weeks, that's what my old OBGYN told me.
  • @Breath_Easy92 As long as the baby measures where they are supposed to be, you should be ok. And the ER Dr probably doesn't know what they're seeing. (I base this on the number of women in here who have gone to the ER, been told by callous doctors that they're MC only to go to their regular Doctor and find a perfectly fine baby.)

  • I don't have my ultrasound, blood tests, or anything until my first appointment 02/10! I'm going to a new clinic that has a midwife, who I will be meeting then as well. The receptionist had said that they don't schedule appointments until 8 weeks, but I'll be 10 weeks by then (according to LMP)!
  • I had an ultrasound at the same "time" and my Dr said that not finding a heartbeat that early is normal :)

  • @Breath_Easy92 try not to panic. Honestly it's near impossible to compare pregnancies. It sounds like everyone has different experiences. My doctor told me today that we may not see a heartbeat. We got lucky. I've read MANY stories where some people heard the heartbeat and others did not at this point. Either way things turned out fine! Plus, the fact that the ultrasound tech reacted that way sounds good :-) I've had bad ultrasounds in the past and they won't say or hint anything if there's a problem. Try to stay positive for that little munchkin!! Hugs!

  • @Breath_Easy92 I know the feeling of fear (and the hell that is google!) but I agree with others, sounds like everything is happening just as it should! I know many others that didn't have a heartbeat even later than you, and things were fine! Best of luck :)
  • @h0connell that's so exciting!  Did you know you may have a chance of twins or was it spontaneous?

@smgaynor Yay!! I'm glad you got another opinion!!
  • @babyblauser Thank you. The first was an emergency room doctor who obviously did not know what she was talking about. I'm mad that she made me so upset for no reason but I'm so blessed that she was wrong!

  • Awwww  this is great
  • @sugarpixxie2 it was a complete surprise! It didn't even cross my mind!
  • @sugarpixxie2 Your baby must have been a super sticky one! Glad everything is going good!
  • @GhanimaAtreides T&P that all remains well and you have no further complications
  • My baby was also tight to the wall. Did this make it hard for your Doc to get rate on the heart beat or make it softer/harder to hear? With my son, it was so clear and easy all the time. I may be over thinking it because of my MC in fall

@dallen16 we couldn't get a rate at all, couldn't really hear it..  maybe faintly in the background. But we saw it pulsing with our eyes so we have to go with that for now. I did ask the doctor afterward if the position of the baby against the wall would affect anything at all and he assured me that it wasn't a problem for the baby,  just for us to listen and measure.  Were you able to get a glimpse of the heart beating?

  • I had my first ultrasound and they couldn't find anything. Waiting on hcg levels and will have official us next week. Not feeling confident it is there but I still am so sick.

  • @wellhithen praying everything is ok!
  • @wellhithen: If you're still pretty early I bet it can be hard to find... but keep us posted!  Sending good thoughts your way.
  • I know I could have ovulated late to be too small but I've had symptoms since week 3. I am 6w3days today. They said it could be ectopic or i lost it but it hasn't left yet. I think it's ectopic since I've been so sick. I have an us Wednesday. I haven't heard from the blood count yet.
  • @wellhithen Sending hugs and prayers your way.  It's not conclusive yet but the waiting is so hard.  Hoping for the best.  We're here for you.
