MIL Issue

Just gotta bitch for a minute.

Yesterday, I had to work, but daycare was closed. My MIL has watched Mouse 3 times in the last 11 months for a total of 8 hours because she's "not comfortable with infants." I took a chance and asked her if she wanted to watch him yesterday and she was thrilled to do it! Great! I had to burn a day of vacation Friday because of the ice storm that never came to fruition and really can't afford to keep spending those days. Annnnyyyywayyy....She comes over yesterday, I show her how to make a bottle, pull out his breakfast and lunch, show her where his other food is, tell her that he'll have a bottle around 10:30 and then take a nap and that if he just randomly starts waving bye-bye that means he wants milk. I neglected to tell her that he should have at least one other bottle of milk during the day, but I really thought I didn't need to.

I texted her once to ask how things were going and she said everything was fine. She knew she could text or call if she needed/wanted to and I got no calls so I assumed all was well. I get home at 4:40 and Mouse is napping which is fine. She tells me that she only changed his diaper twice and that one was poopy and the other was wet. She had him for 9 hours and only changed him twice. TWICE! She also tells me that she only gave him ONE bottle.

I wake him up from his nap at 6:30 for a bath and his diaper was dry! He'd had it on for at least 4 hours at that point. I just....how does a mother not know that she's supposed to give a baby a bottle? She did feed him, but damn...babies need liquids.

  • So sorry. My aunt did that once too and I was like you haven't fed him in over 6 hours ?!?! She said oh I didn't think he was hungry since he went down for nap and had snacks (which were puffs). I had to go over his routine and schedule with her again to ensure she understood. She watches him daily though, so she should have really known.
  • How horrible for you and littlie. You would assume she would know that babies need liquids...actually, humans generally need liquids! Would she only drink every 6 hours?
  • Ugh @DrillSergeantCat that's super frustrating!

On. An unrelated note, how are you feeling?! You're due really soon, right??
