hey guys I am going to join here for a while. I found out on Jan 1 i was pregnant, completely took me by surprise as just a few months earlier I was told by my RE best case scenario was IVF and even then I had a 40% chance. I am a type 2 diabetic and was previously on metformin but was off for a couple of months because my primary moved and I was looking for a new one. at my first u/s appointment last week I asked my RE to run my A1C to see where I was. Today when she got it back I was shocked... last time I had my A1C checked unmedicated it was 7.9, this time it went up to 9.5. She is putting me back on metformin and referring me out to a maternal fetal specialist but i'm afraid I might lose the baby in the meantime, as she says it can take a couple of weeks to get in to see them
anyone else work on getting their A1C down? any suggestions besides cut out all grain and sugar at this point?

I'm type 1, but I want to encourage you that lots of women have gotten pregnant above 9.0% and have healthy pregnancies. A1c is not the sole reason for miscarriages. We have a type 2 in the high risk check-in and I hope that you guys could support each other! Do you take insulin? It may be wise to ask your doctor about the need for insulin to give your body the best chance at being as healthy ass possible for baby.

thank you! i'll join the Sept boards today, i've been too afraid to get too excited honestly because everything is so iffy anyway, and now with the high A1c i'm even more anxious. My RE wants to leave the insulin decision up to the high risk doctor she is referring me out to, i just hope i get in with them soon

@harleyquinn0621 I strongly recommend you also see an endocrinologist for your diabetes, even after baby is born. They will help you to keep your numbers better controlled. But, hopefully you see the MFM soon. Be concerned about everything they will tell you with a grain of salt, but don't jump to thinking you've ruined things and that you can't do it. I know MFM'S can be pretty ridiculously intimidating, scaring you into tears. We'll be on the high-risk checkin to support you!
Another great thing I did was join a Facebook group. Type in "Type 2 diabetes and pregnancy" and see what groups you can join! The diabetic online community has amazing hints and support to give from mom's who have been there, done that! (I'm in a Type 1 group and love it!)
