@Livlew that was the plan with DD but my water had broke and in wasn't progressing at all. They started pitocin and that was agony for me so soon after I requested an epidural. Good times..
I'm hoping that having done this once already my body will be more willing to cooperate, we'll see.

  • @LivLew Planning on it, especially since I'm pretty good about pain without drugs (until I'm puking from it - that's a 9 on my personal pain scale) and am not so excited about the side effects I'm reading about. That said, who knows what will actually happen.
  • @LivLew  I am!  I had an epi with my first but an unmedicated water birth with my second and the recovery time was night and day.   Definitely going the med free route again, God willing.

  • My friend is super needy. Has been our whole friendship (going back 15 yrs). She's a FTM due in March and I get texts every day about something pregnancy related or stressing about the registry list or wanting me to tell her this or that. I'm all for support of other pregnant friends but I'm to the point with her that I want to just cut her off. Luckily I live in Cali and she's back home in Florida or else I might just ghost her. I feel terrible about it but man, shut the F up.
  • I'd love to try unmedicated this time. I went in with contractions the first time and they had to break my water and ended up giving me pitching. I think that made my pain so much worse that I was screaming from the contractions. I got an epi but it was tuned off and mostly worn off by the end of my pushing episode. Crazy 9lber.

Sorry about your friend. I have one who was like that about a relationship. Not daily buy like once a month it was a long drawn out conversation. I'm not looking forward to her being pregnant because being the only one with kids I'm sure I'll get all her daily texts too.
  • Unmedicated is my first option as well but we all know that birthing plans are just a wish list. I did order "The Mindful Mom-to-Be" to start preparing myself and will take classes at my birth center.

@CaitS07 I'm sorry that your friend is so needy! It can't be easy when you have your own pregnancy to deal with. Maybe you could suggest her some books? She seems a anxious person and that may help.

Do you guys try to guess the baby size fruit every week? I don't read the check in threads because I don't want to know the next fruit! DH loves to guess on the next fruit and calls the baby by it every week.

Edit: by check in I mean the ticker change threads.
  • @livlew that's adorable! Much better than me. I keep referring to the baby at "they" like "they will be 1 month at the wedding" but then everyone thinks I'm having twins and freaks out! I don't know how else to put it besides calling baby "it" or "he/she" which is a no-go. I don't like LO either. Now I'll just say "Strawberry will be 1 month at the wedding" hahahaha

I plan to do a natural birth but with how bad I am about pain I have no clue how that's going to go. I feel nauseous at the thought of a needle in me. Usually an IV makes me sick. So I am pretty positive even if I wanted an epid as soon as I saw it I would chicken out. So that's my motivation for a natural birth lol

  • @LivLew I am! Home birth is the plan unless something comes up that risks me out. Even then I plan on med/intervention-free at the hospital, but our hospital isn't known for being the most "natural friendly" so if we end up at the hospital we'll be using a doula.
  • with my first I had a unmedicated water birth and it went well I progressed pretty quickly. I'm planning to do the same with baby #2, at least that's the plan.

don't know what recovery looks like if I would've gotten an epi but I had to get a few stitches and recovering from that was miserable ... I'll do anything not to tear this time around. anyone has any suggestions on avoiding that?

  • @pbandjyummies we took a birthing class and the nurse/instructor recommended perineum massage. I wound up needing a c section so I don't know if it works, but definitely worth a shot. She suggested using a water based lube if I remember correctly.
  • @SouthernMama15 thank you, I'll have to look into that

  • @pbandjyummies no problem, she also said to do it during "sexy time" when you're relaxed
  • Made pork roast in the crock pot and it smells awful to me. I'm so sad because I was looking forward to it.
  • @LivLew that's my plan right now, but I'm going to keep an open mind in case anything comes up.
  • @livlew I had to have an epidural with my twins in case of an emergency c-section (my jim was breech, and he was baby b) so I took the epidural.    This seems like it's going to be a much easier pregnancy for me so I'm hoping I'll go without an epidural.   However, I think the reason I stayed sane with the twins was because I knew I wasn't in control of the birth, the babies were.   So I didn't make a birth plan for fear that I would lose my mind if it didn't go exactly the way I planned.
  • @Leni410 I hate that! I feel like it happens all the time. I'll make something and then have to find something else to eat while DH is eating.
  • @Leni I bought this crazy expensive grass fed beef at Whole Foods (3lbs of it) and made a Cuban crock pot recipe and then I couldn't eat it.
I hope you found something appetizing for dinner.
  • Ladies I ate mashed potatoes and baked beans.  Now I'm laying in bed wishing I had some feta cheese. This is weird.
  • @Nxy & @LivLew,

Similar birth story to yours.  Water broke, no progression, pictocin, then begged for epi.  I tried to do it without, but pain was so bad I couldn't breathe.  Went from 0 cm to 6 in like two hours, then labor stalled again.  Ended up having to get a C-section since both the baby and I ended up with infections since my water broke and labor did the progress.

Kinda wish I were strong enough to make it without drugs, but I am a big baby with pain.

Sadly, I am completely needlephobic, so the stress level with an epi is incredibly high for me. I can't believe I didn't need anxiety meds first time around to make that choice.

  • I am planning on going more natural with this one than my last two, but still plan on getting an epidural at some point.

Wih my DS my water broke at 36w3d and I never had contractions on my own. They started Pitocin, which was HORRID, and gave me Stadol to help with pain. I hated it. I was out of my head loopy. After 8 hours I was dilated to a 1 and got an epidural. I was so tired.

Woth my DD I was having great contractions, but didn't think they were "working" because they were manageable pain-wise...and I remembered how terrible the Pitocin was. When I got to the hospital, I was dilated to a 3.5, and still felt great, but got scared and asked for an epidural right away.

Both very long labors! 18 1/2 hours with my first, 17 1/2 with my second, and I'm thinking if I hold off a bit on the epidural and walk and breathe and labor naturally for a bit longer, it won't be as long.

Who knows, though? You know what they say...the best laid plans...
  • Took a birthing class, did the perinial massages, planned on the epi-free birth, but was in so much pain I was begging for an epidural, and once I had one, I had the most calm, relaxing beautiful, and pain-free birth! It really was incredible! I actually had an amazing recovery, even tho they say the recovery is very hard after an epidural, I had a terrible pregnancy, and one the baby was on the outside,I was ready to conquer the world! I literally was so exciting and ready to do things! I went shopping when babes was 4 days old, then surprised everyone at a family holiday party! I can't wait until that feeling again, just ready and most importantly, able, to do anything!
In conclusion, epidural all the way!!!
  • I can't tell if I'm starting to get a belly (11wks 5days) or if I'm bloated :( I just know that I'm starting to grow out of my work clothes and am uncomfortable.

  • I'm bloating all around my midsection instead of just out. I've never had a really shapely, tiny waist so this is making me look like I've been binging on beer and tacos. My family (mom and sister) carried big and make sizable babies, so I'm just a little freaked out now that it's my turn and how out of control I'm starting to feel about my body.
