Colic

This baby appears to be colic just like my first. He's 6 weeks now, and this week is by far the worst. He cries all day and isn't napping anymore, wakes up frequently at night in pain. I know it's just a matter of waiting till he grows out of it, but with another one at home who isn't even 2 I am really struggling to keep it together. Anyone else dealing with this? Anyone have advice on what worked for them, right now baby wearing seems to help. Or just post here to vent about your little colic one too

Re: Colic

  • I often Google colic symptoms because sometimes I think LO might be. Could you maybe describe what it's like? Maybe this should be my stupid question...

  • He's always screaming and writhing in pain when awake when he's not nursing. And he's so gassy, but is in pain when passing gas. Basically he's just constantly crying, and before now at least he would nap.
  • Have you tried any of the gas drops, gripe water or Colic soothe drops? I thought mine had it but gas drops helped a ton. My pediatrician mentioned Colic soothe drops which I think are a probiotic but so far the gas drops worked a ton. Before the drops mine would scream his head off, arch his back, wriggle in pain etc
  • My girl has colic. It starts about 4 pm and lasts until she goes to bed. We've tried hypoallergenic  formula, cutting dairy out of my diet and probiotics. The probiotic has helped with the gas but apparently, the gas is a symptom of the colic (she's inhaling air when she screams like a banshee).
I've tried baby wearing, the 5 S'S (which help but only for a little bit) and nothing seems to work for long. I just keep telling myself that most babies outgrow it by 3 months so we're halfway there.
  • So it's the same time everyday? I'm curious because my LO cries quite a bit and it is loud, it's not regular and can inevitably be soothed (mostly by walking around the house).

  • I've tried the gerber soothe probiotic drops for a few weeks which haven't done anything so then I just bought the mylicon drops and I thought they were working the 2 days we've had them but today has been horrible

Ours is consistent with the hours but colic is defined as 3+ hours of crying, without cause (not hungry, clean diaper), 3 or more times a week. We can soothe A eventually (usually either the oven vent or the one song that calms her instantly), it's just the hysterical crying before that kills me.

Pretty certain mine has colic.  She is fussy whenever she is awake, and then from 5 pm to 10 pm is mostly inconsolable.  The things that work best for me (for about 30 seconds or so) are sucking on my finger, breastfeeding, wrapping her up in an electric blanket, and this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2C8MkY7Co8&feature=youtu.be
