Your Favorite Morning Sickness Cures

Cure may be a strong word. But anything really.

It finally hit me this past week and it is a struggle to get through the day. I know you need protein, and supposedly frequent small meals help. but howww do you do that when eating anything sounds like the worst idea everrr.

I know I could (and have) googled this, but I'd love to hear it from you guys :)

  • With my first one, I relied on hard candy, especially those "Preggo pop" brand. Mine was mild and I only threw up a few times.

  • I resort to drugs. I take Unisom and B6 three times a day and now am also on Reglan. I struggle to eat frequently, usually just end up eating a few larger meals a day, then I'm miserable after. And I struggle to drink a lot of fluids. Sour things can help, cinnamon candy also helps me temporarily.

Doxylamine succinate 25 mg and vitamin b6 100mg at bedtime saves me. It lasts 24 hours for me. It's amazing.

With my first I was horridly sick into the third trimester.  So hoping that's not the case this time around. Some things that helped me were:

+Keep pretzels or crackers by your bed and eat a few before getting up.  Great for letting your stomach settle a bit.

+Small meals throughout the day.  Just because something sounds good don't eat a lot of it.  Pace yourself, see how you feel, and then eat more if you still feel good.  (I seriously had a month where I couldn't eat a normal sized meal.)

+PROTEIN.  Seriously makes a huge difference.  Could not stomach meat so that meant nuts.  Honey peanuts, cashews, cocoa covered almonds as a treat, hearty granola....a handful now and then made a world of difference.

+also, if you want the calming fizz but not the sugar of soda, fruit seltzer water is so refreshing.  Just make sure it doesn't have that nasty aspartame.
  • I had it SO bad with DD I had to take zofran all 9 months.  I highly recommend ginger gum for nausea.

  • I've been using the preggie pops drops. Try haven't been perfect, but they help some. You can find them at Target.

I asked my husband to bring me breakfast in bed. He obliges, because getting up before me already happens for his work and it saves me from feeling sick all day. I eat in my bed (toast, peanut butter and banana) and let it sit. 20 minutes later I get up and feel SO much better!
A friend of mine ate two pieces of bread in the AM, and left the loaf on her night stand. ;) don't get out of bed without eating!
  • Chimes ginger candies
  • Jolly Ranchers have helped me in both pregnancies. I also agree with small meals or snacks throughout the day, especially nuts.

  • drugs.   hahaha... seriously though.  I was on Zofran with my first.  Zofran and Diclegis with my second and now I'm on Diclegis with my 3rd and it's the only way I'm functioning right now.

  • I'm only 6 weeks and the nausea is awful. It was the same with my first. Ginger makes me so much worse! Just the smell of it makes me ill. I have preggie pop drops they help a little. I tried the bands but no difference. My nausea is all day and night. I feel like I'm going to resort to taking some kind of drug. I can't function.
  • @bumpybump I lived on lemon Jolly Ranchers with DD.

  • I think it depends on the person, because ginger ale and crackers are making me feel worse, but my friends all swore by it.

    Whats helping me:
-ginger snaps (I'm keeping them by the bed so I can have one or two when I wake up sick)
    -ice cold water
    -preggie pops
-raw veggies/salad with Italian or something vinegary
-eat throughout the day, not just at normal mealtimes

I am honestly really struggling to eat enough and especially get enough protein. I only want carbs or sour/acidic foods and can barely stomach meat.

  • Almonds and skittles for the win this time around. Just keeping ahead of my hunger. The struggle is real!
  • All the jolly ranchers and mints. I'm going to be asking my OB for diclectin this coming week once the office is open again.

  • I cannot function with nausea or vomiting. So I take phenergren and pickles! Lots of pickles!! I'm surprised my daughter didn't turn into one lol
  • @je5sc0 I swear, I'm useless with nausea. When I'm actually hungover, I just sleep through it, which works on Saturday mornings, but not so much during work! Trying some of these remedies...

My doc said to try 25 MG of B6 3 times a day. I'm about to try those preggie pops and buy pink stork spray off amazon.  I'm currently eating pretzels in bed writing this so hoping some of these suggestions work too!!!!
  • I just recently discovered that downing a glass of almond milk first thing in the morning helps me a great deal. I'm lactose intolerant, so I have always had it around. Makes sense I guess, carbs, protein, and a little sugar.

  • I'm 9 weeks today and the nausea kicked in at 6.5 weeks. I was sucking ginger candy and drinking ginger ale like crazy. I started to dry heave at least once a day. But! Yesterday I had my first official OB appointment and the doctor prescribed me that B12/unicom combo. Took my first dose last night and today I actually feel human! (Still tired, but more or less normal.) Thank. Goodness.
Snacking throughout the day was somewhat helping too. DH doesn't believe me that eating helps. I tell him it's like how you have to feed a hangover.

  • Ginger candies and peppermint tea are helping right now. But mostly, just keeping something in my tummy at all times. I feel like I'm constantly putting food in my face, but at least it's not coming back up too badly.
  • I just got a Keurig but can't think about drinking the sugary cups my mom got me.  Anyone know if there are any ginger tea cups out there? Lol

My first pregnancy I lived on preggie pops... guess I need to go get more!

  • @a2003tiger how is the reglan for you? I've been prescribed it bc unisom b6 combo is barely taking the edge off. Did research and read horrible reviews about hallucinations and anxiety so I'm afraid to take it! But I'm dying over here!
  • Mangos, ice cold water, and peppermint tea!
  • jpomo said:

I second the mangos. Eating really cold fruit helped me.
  • Sour patch kids helped so much through the worst of it but DH didn't want me eating so much sugar so I gave them up. I wish I had known to try then when the morning sickness was so much worse with my first pregnancy.
  • @kaydee5

I second the sour patch kids.  I don't the even care about the sugar content because it works.

Iced peppermint tea and anything with lemon have also been lifesavers for me this go around.  Kefir also seems to help.

I have no idea where to get ginger candy.  Checked the local store here and none.  May try the co-op next.

  • I've been making a big pitcher of iced tea and lemonade (crystal light), that helps me put something in my stomach so I can ease into eating
  • @destdave2013, I've had no issues with the Reglan. I'm always tired, but can't take tell if that's the Unisom, Reglan or first trimester.

  • Because I was so tired of being nauseous, I started crying. Which made me throw up. Bless.
  • cranberry juice (sour) mixed with seltzer.  Cuts down on the sugar content.  I find that if i don't drink enough water i feel sick.  In the morning, I eat a Hawaiian Roll because they are delish and help first thing in the morning.  I'm not big into to taking medicine so I avoid it if I can.  I never picked up the decligis or however you spell it, from the pharmacy.

  • Eating frequently even just small snacks and carbs, carbs and more carbs.  Crackers, pretzels, pasta, etc are the only things that really help with my queasiness.  I haven't gotten sick with this pregnancy yet, but I've been close several times and I'm very queasy every day from late afternoon through the evening.

  • I bought a magnesium salt spray off amazon called Pink Stork, and I swear it's really helping! If you do some research about how magnesium can help nausea in general it makes sense why this could work to fight against morning sickness.

I also grabbed a box of the preggie pops drops extras and I think the B6 in that is helping too.

  • I agree with the vitamin b6! I take 25mg in the morning and 25mg before bed. It's been a life saver. Preggie pops help me briefly but I have to constantly have something in my stomach or I'm sick. So eating lots of small meals during the day helps too.

  • @a2003tiger how much Reglan do you take? I took it my last pregnancy and it was def the most helpful but I can't remember how much I took. I feel less than human at the moment and am ready for some relief
