  • How far along are you? 15 weeks!

How big is baby? Navel orange

Upcoming appointments this week? Not till 18-week scan

Any new symptoms or changes? The congestion... dear lord, the congestion. I think I picked up a cold during a trip to NYC last weekend, and I'm paying for it now. Haven't had a cold in years and forgot how miserable it is to try to sleep with a stuffy, runny nose. (I don't think this is just pregnancy rhinitis, which I'm pretty sure I already had - I've been sneezing all the time for weeks and weeks.) I traded nausea for congestion. Meh, I guess that's a trade I'd make again.

Rants/Raves/Questions? See above... GAH MY NOSE.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
I'm so glad we found out the sex this time. I feel like we're all able to start thinking about what this new addition to the family will mean to us. If we had chosen to go team green again, there would have been a lot of questions and what ifs throughout the pg for me. Seeing this one at the NT scan and knowing it's a girl was pretty awesome too - they both have my forehead, lol, but the first was so active it took a bit to get the right angle and this one was just hanging out - even after I had just finished an orange. It'll be fun to see how this girl's personality emerges.

How big is baby? Can of spam or avocado

Upcoming appointments this week? BP check and talk about progesterone suppositories this Saturday.....yay?

Any new symptoms or changes? Starting to feel little flutters.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Having the major debate now of whether to stay in the UK or go back to the US to deliver.  Weighing pros and cons, and I'm not sure which to do.  The original plan was to stay here, but a coworker had her baby this week and wasn't very happy with the experience.  I also found out that NHS hospitals aren't fully staffed on the weekends, so if there's a complication, there might not be a doctor who can assist you.  Blergh.

  • @Xath Will be interested to hear your decision about where to deliver. Insurance isn't a concern for you in the US?

    16 weeks! Avocado - mmmm!

    Next appointment is next week.

I think I am finally finally getting past the exhaustion and "blah" feeling!! Very hormonal and irritable, though. My little bump is maybe popping a little. So jealous of the mamas feeling movement!!

Rave: this thread is cracking me up!

Here's "my" glamour shot (the most relevant if not the "best"):

  • @virginiaunicorn11 I still have BCBS; we're only here for a few years and head back to the States this summer anyway.  My original plan was (and I guess still is) to stay here and deliver because I don't want to leave my boys, and risk delivering without my husband.  BUT ultimately we'll do what's best for the baby.

I haven't had wondrous birth experiences in the US anyway, so I'm not concerned about the "niceness" of the hospitals here.  But we're supposed to move back to the US shortly after the baby is due; I'm worried what will happen to us if she needs a prolonged NICU stay (months long).  That would be much easier to manage from Virginia. My family is there; getting her passport will be easier there, etc.  But it also feels like a dick move to leave my job here for 4 months, work from DC until delivery, then come back here for a few weeks just to move back home?  It also means my husband will be single parenting AND have to handle the pack-out of our house by himself.  I think I need to make a pros/cons list.

It will also depend on what happens if/when I go into pre-term labor.  The doctor here already said he doesn't agree with what my US OBs did in the last 2 cases; I asked him what he would do and he said "nothing."  And that doesn't sit right with me either.  I made it to 35 weeks with my last 2 after starting PTL at 24 and 22 weeks; I don't like the idea of doing "nothing" if that happens again.

  • @Xath that's a lot to consider. No chance of finding a doctor in the UK who would have a different strategy than "do nothing"? The US option sounds really stressful, but so do complications when you're not confident in the healthcare you're receiving. Good luck, lady!

@virginiaunicorn11 The OB here is really really good.  He literally wrote the book they use to teach obstetrics at Oxford.  I think he has a tendency to underplay things and "wait and see."  I know he really doesn't like nifedipine, which is what I was on with the last 2 kids.  The main issue is that in the US, they consider you to be in PTL status if you have timeable repeated contractions at regular intervals.  In the UK, they don't consider it to be PTL unless your cervix is dialating.  I've never had dialation that early, but I did have a uterine rupture from the stress of weeks of contractions.  So I don't really want to contract for 12 weeks without intervention.  He's also said he doesn't want me contracting at all...so I don't really know how this will all play out.  I don't need to decide one way or the other until closer to 30 weeks, so we'll probably play it by ear for a while longer.

  • How far along are you? 12 weeks

    How big is baby? plum

Upcoming appointments this week? Thursday for one more dating u/s (it was fuzzy last time) and to set the date for my c/s. So weird that I will know the probable birthdate so early. They will also check my BP because it was high last time, so I'm really nervous (which clearly isn't going to help)

Any new symptoms or changes? Less nausea which is fabulous but I'm still sooooo tired. Some fun vertigo but generally feeling human.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

I made a big business decision this week. I've taken a break from photography sessions because traveling with all my gear is really something I want to do now. But I miss it so much, so I ordered a bunch of lighting / backdrops and decided to bring sessions into my house for now. I'm nervous and excited, but mostly just happy I may get to cuddle newborns again :)

As as a photographer, I found this exercise physically painful.... but then I found this and all was right with the world again.
