Babies on the Brain

Has anyone tried swaying for a boy or girl?

For those who have had a previous pregnancy:  Has anybody tried the whole "gender sway" thing where you eat a certain diet or try to time BDing to increase the odds of conceiving a boy or girl?

I know "gender" is the incorrect term here technically.  But "sex sway" sounds wrong.

Anyway, I'm kinda tempted to try a "girl" sway if we do TTC in June-ish, unscientific and unproven as it may be.  (Actually, there is some evidence that women who eat cereal for breakfast give birth to more boys, but that's pretty much it as far as peer-reviewed science goes.)  I would consider Microsort/IUI, but Microsort isn't available in the U.S. now.

Should I try to sway things, or just be happy with what I get?  Or maybe both?

  • Wow, is this really a thing?!

My wife and I have conceived a babe with my body and frozen donor sperm through IUI, with medication support (clomid, ovidrel, and injections of progesterone)

    IUI #1, #2, and #3: Dec 2017, Jan 2018, and Feb 2018 - all BFN
HSG Test: April 2018 - all clear!
    IUI #4: April 15/16, 2018 - BFP!! EDD: Jan 7, 2019

  • I have 3 boys and when we were trying for our 3rd a bunch of girls at work were talking about this. I looked into it out of curiosity. I don't think it works. They swore it worked for someone else they knew but I remain unconvinced.
  • Both of my girls were conceived on the first try and both times we had sex a few days leading up to ovulation. They say if you have sex 3-4 days before ovulation then you will have a girl. If you do it 1 day before or on O day then you make a boy.  I'm not sure it actually worked or if it's a coincidence. We weren't trying for a girl it just happened.

  • Hah! At this point, I'll be happy with whatever LO I end up having.
Your chances are 50/50 regardless of what "diet" you try or what you eat for breakfast or when you have sex. You only have a 20% chance of conceiving every month. Don't cut it down more than that by only having sex on specific days.

  • @izza2  I did a little bit more digging w/ Google scholar and it looks like you're right.  The "differences" are probably just due to chance.  Hmmm....I guess there's always the power of placebo?  Lol.

  • I read that stuff too. Claims say different foods can produce different environments for male/female sperm to thrive in. I feel like most doctors would say it's not true but I can't help but wonder.
