High WBC?

My OB has an online portal so I can see all of my lab tests pretty quickly so I checked it this morning to see the results of Monday's glucose test.  My white blood cell count was a little high.  I haven't been sick and have been feeling fine (knock on wood it stays that way!).  Anyone else have a high WBC w/o cause or heard of this before?  I'm just curious how common it is for this to happen.

  • Loading the player...
  • @beckyf321 my doc or her nurses always look at stuff before releasing it on the portal so if they didn't call you I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Thanks!  I'm not too worried about it.  It's not sky high or anything, just a few points over.  I'll be curious to see what she says on Monday.

  • Your body can be fighting off an infection and you not feel any symptoms (in fact, that's good for a healthy immune system). High WBC counts are not uncommon during this time of the year because it's cold and flu season, so your immune system is pretty constantly fighting off stuff.

Came to say this.  My WBC was really high with my DD.  I never got sick once in that pregnancy.  This time is a different story.  I hope you remain healthy through winter to April!!!!

@Beckyf321 I have read somewhere (can't remember where) that some pregnant women just have higher WBC counts during pregnancy especially the third trimester because the immune system is working to protecting both you and baby.

Huh. I hope that's it. My WBCs have been elevated with every draw this pregnancy and I can't get my doctor to seem to care.  It would have been nice if she shared with me why she was not concerned.
