Re: Weekly Randoms 01.10.17

  • Is anybody else just really NOT enthused about this year so far? I know we're only 10 days in and I'm probably being overly pessimistic, but I just can't shake the feeling that this too will be a grim 365 days.
  • Loading the player...
  • Hmmm I'm not really sure how I feel to be honest. Some days I'm optimistic, others I'm not. I just try to look forward to all of LOs milestones and watching her learn new things. I'm actually trying to figure out a way to stay out of work longer to continue to be with her.
  • Is it against the rules to give LO her bath during the day?  She's still freaking out afterwards no matter what I do...warm towel, double towel, towel then blanket. I want to try doing it earlier and see if it makes a difference.
  • @Ladybug2821I totally look forward to all of LO's milestones and everything that has to do with him, and the other kids for that matter, it's just everything else I'm not looking forward to. I'm just being whiney!

And girl, don't forget who makes the rules- MOM. Do whatever you need to do to make bath time as easy on yourself as possible, sounds like at this point, your bedtime routine could benefit from cutting out the bath anyway.
  • While I'm away at work (8-9 hours) my little one is only eating 5-6 ounces. She's definitely a boob girl but refuses to eat more. Is this normal? She's always been 50% for weight and has a great appetite when we nurse on the weekends so I'm worried she's going to start losing weight or slowing her weight gain.
  • @fitlady21 Did you go back to work just recently? My LO wasn't eating from a bottle very efficiently when I first went back to work. Her weight gain stalled a bit and we ended up switching bottles, but she eventually got better at it and now eats an average of 10 ounces while I'm at work. It might just take her a little while to get better at eating from a bottle or she might just eat more when she's with you to make up for eating less during the day. I think as long as she continues to gain weight at an appropriate rate, there's nothing to worry about. (Although I was worried sick about it when we were going through it, so feel free to disregard that particular advice.)
  • @ball4768

Yes this is my second week back. Hopefully she'll get the hang of it soon! Makes me sick thinking she's still hungry although logically I know if she's truly hungry, she'll eat.

Ive also noticed she is spitting up a ton (like puddles hitting the floor) several times after nursing. This has been going on for a few weeks. She doesn't spit up from bottles but within 10 minutes from nursing she spits up everywhere. Anyone else having this problem? I think my let down might have gotten stronger due to pumping. Is that possible? I'm pumping about 18-20 ounces a day now and she's nursing at least 6 times from late afternoon-morning
  • @fitlady21 From my experience, yes pumping can definitely influence a heavier let down! I started out having to pump right away since LO was in the NICU, and once I was able to BF, when I let down it would pretty much drown him everytime, I'd just have to let them leak a bit before he could nurse without being gagged.
  • Well, it would appear my pessimistic 2017 premonition is correct so far. I have been suspended from school for withdrawing from ONE class last semester because I knew I wouldn't be able to stay caught up without being on campus. They said giving birth and Johnny's extended NICU stay wasn't a sufficient reason to withdraw.

School was my income, so looks like I'll be joining the ranks of the working moms ASAP.
  • @AllyTheKid That  is ridiculous!   So then what the heck constitutes a good excuse?   Anyway you can fight that by going to someone important,  like the Dean?
  •  Went to LO's ENT  appointment today. Everything was perfect!   I honestly didn't think anything was wrong but of course I had to go just to make sure. I'm starting to think these doctors just refer patients to each other to make money.   The doctor said she wasn't teething but I swear she is slobbering like crazy.
  • @AllyTheKid Surely there is an appeal process for crappy decisions like that, right? And did they wait until now to tell you? It seems like that would have been good to know at the time that you dropped the class.
  • @AllyTheKid keep your chin up mama.. I know 2017 hasn't been the greatest so far but things will eventually start looking up from here

  • That was actually my second appeal in two weeks, and their final decision. Which blows. They did tell me when I withdrew that I could face suspension for it (because when I first started college in 2008, I withdrew from 4 classes and dropped out completely until 2015, and was suspended upon enrollment which I had to appeal to even attend and was placed on academic probation). But, they told me at the time, under my circumstances I shouldn't have any trouble appealing this one withdrawal, so I wasn't sweating it at all. Surprise =/ It really does make you wonder what situations are forgiveable. Oh well, FI said to suck it up, we'll save up for some more classes next semester (I've been suspended from financial aid as well), I'll bust my ass and get straight A's, then appeal again.

@brzvice I know you're probably right, I need to shut down this pity party of one and clean up now.
  • So. Addy fell down at school yesterday and broke her wrist. Because she is under the age of 6, she has to see a pediatric orthopedic doctor. We were stuck at the urgent care clinic from 12:30pm to 5pm yesterday just to get her seen, be sent to a different clinic for x-rays, then have to go back to the urgent care clinic for the results just to be told the orthopedic doctor closed at 5 will be out until Tuesday... my poor baby girl ;( she has a brace to wear, but I hate that she has to go so long before getting a proper, more comfortable cast.
  • These kids and their darn wrists...
  • @AllyTheKid Oh no!  So sorry to hear that. Hope she feels better soon and heals fast!

Hopefully this will give you a chuckle. H turned on something really loud last night when LO was sleeping and I told him to turn it down. He said but you have that white noise turned up full blast. I said yeah because the whole point is to block out sounds like the one your making, ummm duh. I don't turn it on for her listening enjoyment lol.
  • @Ladybug2821 Thank you! Other than some discomfort she's doing well =)

I am face-palming for you... They just. Don't. Get it.
  • @AllyTheKid I'm mad for you and this whole school junk. It's not encouraging for adults/mothers to go back and not being penalized. H had a similar experience when we were in school back in the day, but they made exception for him and I'm not even he had good reason. I am curious about school being your job... I guess I just don't know how that works. I've been considering going back the past few years, so curiosity strikes me on that.

@Ladybug2821 They seriously just don't get it. It's so frustrating when they do such blatant things. I'm really trying my best this week to not be so critical of H and how he is with the kids. He's so miserable already with his job and schedule I certainly don't think I'm helping when I'm always pointing out his faults. He at least tries so I guess I can too. I'll just vent here to you ladies so I can stay married and try my best at being nice (insert eye roll).
  • @christinab0722 I am positive had I not been on academic probation because of dropping in '08, they would have approved my appeal. Sucks that they're holding that against me, I've grown up a lot and busted my ass since then.
As far as school being my income, allow me to elaborate. Every semester my school puts out a big book of available scholarships. I read through it, write down all of the ones I am eligible for, then write the essay they require to apply. You wouldn't believe how few people apply for scholarships, and just rely on Pell grants and student loans, and how easy it is to get them if you're a fair writer! So, whatever I'm awarded that isn't applied to my classes, I use to help supplement our income. Food for thought if you are serious about going back, and don't mind putting in the extra work, you can pay for all of your classes plus some with scholarships if you make the effort. It still blows my mind that even though the advisors cram scholarships down student's throats, they just don't apply for them.

PS I'm with you on playing nice with my male counterpart. And spot on knowing he's miserable as it is but, c'mon man. How hard is it to realize LO likes to face away from you while sitting up? Is him screaming into your chest not a good enough sign? Things like that irk me. I know he's frustrated by it too, but it isn't rocket science!
  • @AllyTheKid that's very interesting... I guess I didn't really think about that. I guess it's no different than taking out the max amount on loans and living off the extra amount. I'm not really sure what I want to go back for...I studied a little bit of everything on my parents dime back in the day so I'm more than frustrated that I never finished... And I went to school for 5 darn years. So I'll look into the scholarship thing, I also used to work for a major university here and was able to attend classes for free. I'm thinking in a couple more years, I'd like to go back to the university and stay there so I can send my kids there at a discount.
  • Does anyone know of a decent video monitor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?  I'm thinking about moving LO to her room soon but know I won't survive it without a video monitor. Sound just isn't good enough.
  • @christinab0722 All I have to say is take advantage of scholarships if you can, that's my option instead of maxing out loans I'll have to pay back. You really CAN go to school for free or next to nothing if you know where to look and are willing to put in the work. It's worth it to me.

@Ladybug2821 GooDee baby vido monitor is on sale for 49.99 down from 69.99 on Amazon, and is prime eligible.
