BOY!

What the world?! I am so excited and I "what the world" because my mom had only girls and I thought I was going to have another girl, but I am so happy! Either one would've been perfectly fine. I have a 3 year old little girl now. My second pregnancy, I lost that pregnancy at 8 weeks. My third pregnancy, I lost a little girl at 21 weeks.

I'm praying this pregnancy will be good, because I have been so scared lately.

Very excited to have a baby boy!

not to be snarky but do you realize your mom had nothing to do with your babies? sex comes from the sperm so your mom having girls has no effect on your LO

Why is it so bad to post a different board to announce a gender or talk about something that oh my gosh has already been talked about? I'm sure she was looking for a polite congrats on the baby boy! Not rude comments.

Anyway, congrats! I was shocked when I found out I was having a girl. I had a boy first and I just had a feeling I would be a boy mom. But congrats and I'll be praying that your pregnancy is healthy the rest of the way.

It's not that it is the worst thing ever, it is that if everyone did this it would mess up the whole board. We are all pregnant. If there was a new post every time someone found out the sex of their child, the more important threads, like people with questions or people who need support for a medical scare/loss, would be buried almost immediately. So it is considered kind of inappropriate to start a new thread just for yourself when there is an existing thread on that topic for everyone to share without clogging things up, and regular posters try to discourage that type of thing. That said, I don't think OP has been around long enough to learn that aspect of the culture (although she should have read the info thread pinned at the top and lurked before posting), so it's not a huge deal. Which is why it is being greeted by light ribbing and encouragement to use the existing posts. If she comes here and says, "Oh, my bad, I get it now," I'm pretty sure everyone will be cool and forget about it and be happy for her to participate according to community norms in the future.

@GinaReed Ok so lets say you are walking around in the mall and you see a group of women that are pregnant. Would you run up to them and shout out "Guess what? Im having a boy!!" Probably not. It would be weird. That's the same thing here.

I barely care about the sex organs of contributing members' babies, Im definitely not going to care about a stranger's.

I cant take one more "but this is for support!" response. When did support start meaning only telling people they are awesome. Sometimes support means "Oh no girl, might need to rethink that decision!"

So chill out, get to know the board and I'm sure you'll have a blast. You're Welcome.

I'm with @Wino0920 with the "this is for support" response. I don't think OP is here for "support," she's perfectly happy and excited about her baby boy. Support is for people going through tough times. This post was an open attention grab and desire for congratulations from complete strangers. Hundreds of active members used the communal post for this purpose, why would a brand new member get her own post?

Bras sole purpose is for support. The Bump has many useful purposes, like education, fun, and support within a community.

AW posts do not reflect or respect a sense of community.

ETA: Why would she need support for announcing the sex of her baby anyway? She doesn't.

@GinaReed No one is saying it's bad that she posted, just that it is unnecessary. I think a baby sex announcement would warrant it's own thread if this were a completely different type of board and she was the only pregnant member of the community. Since we're all expecting a baby though it's kind of like, "and?..."

ETA The OP seemed to be really thankful for the feedback though so I don't think she needs someone to come to her defense

OP, in all sincerity, having a boy is wonderful - I'm about to have 3 and I wish you nothing but a healthy pregnancy. At the same time, we'd love for you to introduce yourself on that pinned thread and maybe share the sex of your child on that pinned thread as well... it will be better received and come across a lot less AW.

@Wino0920 great analogy with the mall, hit the nail on the head!

Now, for everyone else... I knew this would happen as I saw this one early yesterday and apparently missed everything after the first few replies, I'm always late...

WELL........ If she was expecting/wanting a girl, and got a boy....... Depending on who you ask...... She may need support for her gender disappointment.
