afternoon. I'm pretty sure what I've been experiencing today is the start of a miscarriage. Woke up around 5am to light bleeding that has progressed throughout the day. It's still not super heavy but heavy enough that it's very concerning followed by some cramping. The cramps are quite unpleasant but still not as bad as period cramps. So I've basically just stayed in bed most of the day. My sweet hubby doesn't know what to do.
I called my OB and the office is closed today so it sent me to the dr on call who says my option was to go to the ER however I don't think that's necessary? I mean I don't think there is anything they can do. I'd rather go through this at home and call my actual dr in the morning. I know this is a tough subject for anyone and I hate to bring back up old memories but any advise and thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am going through my first miscarriage right now, but also had bleeding throughout my pregnancy with my son that turned out just fine. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know which it is right away, so I definitely understand your concern and am hoping everything is ok!
With my son's pregnancy, I had light pink spotting at 5 weeks 3 days, then again at 8 weeks 3 days (after a vaginal ultrasound at 8 weeks), light pink spotting the day after we had sex every single time, spotting after bowel movements (from a fibroid on the outside of my uterine wall that wasn't discovered until my first ultrasound), and a scary episode of bright red bleeding (big gush after I went to the bathroom) at 6 months after a blood vessel must have popped or something (the cause was never for sure). That being said, I went on to have a healthy delivery and pregnancy and my 16-month-old is upstairs sleeping now.
With my current pregnancy, I was 4 weeks 3 days when I started spotting brown and light pink. This continued for 3 days, and in the meantime, my pregnancy tests never got darker like they did with my son's pregnancy (I was still shocked I was pregnant so soon so I kept on testing just to prove to myself it was real). I got HCG blood tests at 4 weeks 3 days after the spotting started and my results came back in the normal range but on the very low end of the scale (57), so things were not looking good. On the 4th day, I started bleeding a bit heavier and more red, resembling a light period. This progressed to full-on red bleeding with clots by the 5th day (today) that has continued throughout the day. I have also had a lower backache since I started spotting, which can be another sign of miscarriage. Unlike my pregnancy with my son, I didn't really have any pregnancy symptoms other than some constipation, and to be honest, I just had this weird feeling from the beginning that something wasn't quite right. I felt so different than with my previous pregnancy but hoped my symptoms were just different and I was imagining things.
I would ask your doctor to check your HCG and progesterone levels tomorrow; they'll have you go back in in 48 hours to test again to see if your HCG levels are doubling like they should. Depending on how far along you are, it may be too early for an ultrasound (for me it was), but the HCG levels should help determine what's happening.
With my successful pregnancy, my spotting episodes never were much more than spotting when I wiped with some light pink blood, except for that one instance of bright red blood. But I do have a friend who bled throughout her entire first pregnancy (especially in the first trimester) and went on to deliver a healthy baby boy, and she's now pregnant again and the same thing happened. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know what the outcome will be, but I will be hoping you have good news and everything is ok!! Hugs!
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or want to talk more. I've gone through all kinds of emotions in the past few days and it's been really hard, but it does help to talk about it with people who have been through the same thing. Just know you're not alone!
