TTTC Checkin 1/2/2017

Hey Everyone,

Happy New Year! Right now I'm up and wide awake crazy early (4:45am) and it's probably from pulling an all-nighter for New Year's and throwing my sleep-clock off.   Anyway, I figured that I might as well do the checkin and get our board rolling for 2017.

Please welcome @RunsUponATime to the board...

A little housekeeping: if you haven't read the "New Visitors" announcement post in a long time, please take a minute to scan it (especially if you're a lurker or haven't been here in a while).

Congrats to any new BFP's and hugs to anybody who needs one!

How is everybody doing?

    Hi everyone!

I don't think I've updated in quite some time. So here goes:

    - I had a surgery to remove my submucosal fibroid in December. It was partially blocking my right tube so the doctor said it's possibly causing my IF.
-DH went for acupuncture to improve morphology. Unfortunately the clinic he went to for the SA didn't use the Krueger method so I'm not sure if it improved at all. It was normal according to the protocol they used.
-We were referred to the fertility clinic in the city but it has a 7 month wait.

So we're trying on our own for the next little while. I did take letrozole 5mg but we are just doing TI for now. As far as I know there is nothing that should be hurting our chances now but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up.

    Financing:
I am fortunate to live in Canada so all fertility treatments are eligible for a 60% tax credit. So far all my meds have been covered by private insurance.
Me: 29 years old, DH: 31 years old
    TTC #1 since July 2015
SA Feb 2016 & May 2016: Excellent count and motility, 3% morphology
Surgery Dec 2016: submucosal fibroid removed
    Awaiting RE appointment

    1. How long have u been TTC? About 1 year

    2. Diagnosis? Low progesterone, but doc is looking into other factors as well since progesterone supplements have not helped thus far

3.Current treatment plan? I was on progesterone pills which were so incredibly hard on my stomach I almost gave up TTC altogether! Doc is working on getting suppositories approved by insurance and at a reasonable cost. So far they approved one but it was 103 bucks for 14 day supply. Also going for a HSG test this month. (Nerve wracking)

Finances? I have been waiting 3 weeks for insurance to approve a progesterone suppository that is a reasonable price. The progesterone pills were only ten bucks for a 14 day supply but I thought I would die from side effects, doc is telling me the side effects won't be as bad with the suppositories.

Right now just getting so frustrated with progesterone side effects being so horrendous that I can't carry on with normal life. Irritable Bowel Syndrome just makes things 10x harder on my stomach. Hoping my body gets used to it over time. Anyone have any advice for this by the way? Also waiting on my HSG test. Feeling hopeful for 2017!

    2017 is hopefully our year!

We have an US/Bloodwork for a lining check tomorrow and then more bloodwork on Friday and then Monday we will be doing our FET transfer if all goes well of 1 CCS tested 5aa eggo. FX that it all goes well!

QOTW:  Let's talk money!  How are you financing your IF treatment?  Or are you one of the lucky ones with fabulous insurance?

Not one of those lucky ones with IF insurance. I have fabulous insurance for everything else...but nothing having to do with IF. So it has all been out of pocket. For all our IUI's etc we were just pulling from savings or making bills work. A little here a little there etc...things were roughly 1k a month with Ultrasounds/Meds/IUI etc...but a lot of the months I wasn't lucky enough to have mature follies so only paid about $400-500. So not quite as shocking to the checkbook. We were only able to decide to go on for IVF because of the $ support of our parents. We are looking forward to doing our taxes and seeing what the tax credit does.

    Hi Ladies!

@GoldenKeys can you please changed me from "waiting for testing" to Letrozole + IUI

    1) TTC since Oct '13 with one twin MC in May '15

    2) Our DX is unexplained and we're currently benched from naturally trying due to Zika exposure. Nearly all tests have come back fine, I did get some genetic testing results back and am a carrier for two diseases. Right now waiting on DHs bloodwork to see if he's a carrier for the same ones. HSG scheduled for Friday

3)Im meeting with my RE on 1/9 but that will be CD 9 so I'm not sure we'll be able to squeeze in a January IUI but the plan is three IUIs and then move on to IVF. We had 11 vials of sperm frozen before DH traveled to a Zika infected area so we'll only have enough swimmers for that treatment and if that doesn't work we'll have to wait until September to start again.

GTKY: So far we've only had to pay about 1,200 for DHs deposits and storage, that was paid out of savings. But unfortunately everything else is OOP (except maybe meds) and that is going to be put on a 0% APR credit card. So we'll basically have a year to pay it off and the full treatment will cost us around $16K.

Im a big time worrier about money so the cost of treatment gives me a lot anxiety but DH put things in perspective for me (of course this doesn't apply to everyone) when he asked me if I'd rather live debt free with no kids or pinch pennies and raise a family, for me that answer was easy. So pinching pennies and paying off debt it is.

    @GoldenKeys   thanks for the welcome!

@whenwillieversleep  I have a short LP and IBS, thanks for the heads up as to the progesterone side effects!  I hope you adjust quickly as well, I know how much the IBS can affect day to day life.

As for us, we're waiting on the SA results to come back.  I've had a lot of dreams about it, so I know it's been on my mind.  Because of some of DH's medications and some other known issues I'm expecting a MFI dx, and my LP issues probably aren't helping.

QOTW:  We're very new to testing/treatment, so it remains to be seen.  On paper our insurance looks amazing, but dealing with the pre-certification contractor has been intensely frustrating already.  If they do cover things then it'll be worth it, but I'm very skeptical.  Depending on how the out of pocket costs are stacking up we will decide how far we're willing to go.  Luckily we've been putting away money in our FSA, and that should help soften the blow.

@GoldenKeys - I love them too, but am so hoping it doesn't come to that! Renovations are stressful enough - I can't imagine inviting a film crew in to document DH and I while we debate where to put our fridge and what kind of range to get. DH has terrible taste - OMG, it's awful - some of his paint colour suggestions, I'm like: "WHAT?!" - and I am way more particular than I'd like to admit... It would be a disaster, but it is definitely one way to cut costs! ;)

At our RE clinic, too right when we started, there was a casting call. Apparently they are putting together some show documenting people's IF journeys. DH and I were like: "Who would do that? Volunteer to have such a painful thing recorded?" I didn't ask if that meant you'd get cheaper IVF though! I mean, if you got like $1-4k off, it might be worth it...

(I think both of these definitely qualify as "creative financing".)

@funkykey do the show!!!  It's easy for me to say because it wouldn't be my meltdown on TV but I feel the renovation would be completely worth it haha.  I wouldn't have the nerve to be on the IF show though.  I can't imagine a camera being crammed in my face as I'm laying in bed sobbing and eating a Snickers.

@BecauseLove sending lots and lots of good thoughts your way that the FET is a success!!

Just finished my second IUI, waiting for brunch at our favorite place by the hospital.

DH's motile sperm count is up but not enough (was 2.2 last time, 7.0 this time. We want 10+). He is going to a urologist soon, adding supplements, since our chances this time are better but not great.

    But it just takes one!

QOTW: Our health insurance is great. We met our deductible last year so we didn't pay a lot out of pocket at the tail end. It's a new year so we'll see what I owe for that IUI.

No heroic measures here. We'll reassess our "3 IUI rule" and whether or not we quit actively trying this summer at the 2 year mark.

Hey, guys!!!!!!!  Long time no see!  DH and I have been enjoying our little break from thinking about fertility.  My birthday was in a December and he got me a pupppppppy so we have been nice and distracted!

    ***trigger warning***

I started my period 3 weeks to the day after my miscarriage, I was surprised but a little encouraged.  I sort of randomly took some ovulation tests without really worrying or counting, and I THINK I got a positive on Christmas morning!  We BD'd just in case, haha.  I actually have a feeling I might be pregnant.  Started having hot flashes and vivid dreams a couple nights ago and this morning I had some pinching cramps and the tiniest bit of pink discharge.  It's crazy how familiar I am with what pregnancy feels like...this could be the third time I've gotten pregnant in 5 months.  I'm no longer impressed by my ability to get pregnant...I'll be impressed when I'm holding a healthy baby.  Anyway I'll probably test in the morning, even though it's probably too soon!  I've got one in the drawer, can't help it, haha.

Here's to all of the BFP's we WILL be seeing in 2017!!!!! Love you all!

QOTW: I am one of the lucky ones with fabulous insurance....correction, WAS.  Hubby just got a great new job but the insurance is less great haha.  After getting pregnant twice "easily" we are taking a break from the RE.  If we're not pregnant in a few months we will reevaluate...planning to ride the post-miscarriage fertility bump for a while!

@jmr1515 7 month wait? I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm glad that your surgery went well. I hope that's what you needed and you won't have to wait for the appointment!

@whenwillieversleep I'm sorry you've had such a hard time with the progesterone. I hope you're able to get the suppositories instead. Insurance is so frustrating!

@worldtravler0522 Good luck with your FET! I am pulling for you so hard!

@funkykey Do the show! I am also addicted to those home improvement shows. The RE's office keeps HGTV on in the waiting room. The best thing about IUIs is getting to watch marathons of whatever is on. :-) Not sure how I'd feel about the IF show, but I've been really open about IF and if it took some of the cost away, I'd totally do it.

    @BecauseLove Good luck!!!!

@RunsUponaTime Welcome! My DH also has MFI from medications he takes. Once you get your results back, I can give you advice based on our experience thus far.

@BenJay I'm glad the count was up--step in the right direction at least. It's great you're seeing a urologist soon. I'm so happy we did; DH is responding well to clomid. I'm interested to hear what yours will recommend. Good luck!

@BWhitta Welcome back! FX this is your cycle! FX!!!

AFM Not much going on. I can't remember if I updated to say that DH got his blood work back and his testosterone is now in the normal range after a month of clomid. I actually have hope again, although we'll likely miss FW this cycle since he's gone most of this week. Oh well. I'm hoping we'll get KU naturally and I won't have to go back to IUI this spring--although now I'm revved up for three more rounds.

GTKY My insurance covers all the testing and IUIs, but not IVF. (Incidentally, if you're in NY, Resolve is working with a group to get a law passed mandating IVF coverage, since NY already mandates IUI coverage.) If we have to do IVF, my family volunteered to help finance it. They're amazing since I didn't, and wouldn't have, asked.

Happy New Year everyone.  I don't have much news.  Right now I'm on BC and waiting for my RE clinic to let me know when I can start a new cycle and stims.
I told my Mom on Sunday what was going on and she was certainly very supportive but struggling with the right thing to say so she just gave me a thumbs up and told me she would be sending positive thoughts.  I'm glad she is up to speed because I really want to be able to lean on her for emotional support.

QOTW: I just switched to H's insurance and we invested in an EPO this year so coverage should be good but I will feel better after the RE office calls with the details.  Hopefully that will be soon.

@funkykey do the shows!!! You are such a fabulous personality on these boards I. An only imagine how amazing you are in person :)

@BWhitta we are O twins! I tested this morning due to similar symptoms as you....actually exact same symptoms (except for no spotting), but BFN :(

AFM, waiting for AF to arrive this weekend, then we start clomid/IUI. When.....ahem, if that doesn't work we will move to BC in feb to prepare for IVF in March.

QOTW: my insurance covers IF testing, so bloodwork, US, HSG, etc are all covered, but IUI and IVF are completely OOP. I sold a house last year and my SO's family gave us a lot of money when we bought our current home, but we spent most of that money on renovations (not thinking we'd need IVF at the time). So we have just enough money left over to pay the $20k for one cycle of IVF......after that we will have to be done. Our state has zero interest in covering IF, which is super irritating.

@RunsUponATime Same here, but luckily our current treatment (he's on 50mg clomid every other day) seems to be combatting the effects of the other medication at least hormonally. I hope you get similar news that there's a workaround for your own H's medications!

@PoeMasque I know almost nothing about this, but is it possible for you to get some kind of plan where essentially you get 3 shots at IVF for your $20k? I know some clinics offer this; they're betting you'll get KU first round and you're kind of betting against yourself (since you're only saving money if you have to go more than one round). I'm really only familiar with this from the memoir "The Art of Waiting" so I may be misunderstanding.

@PoeMasque - total aside, but my sister is in a similar position. They put in a new kitchen and like immediately after paying a few other things happened (he lost his job and took a pay cut with the new one, their local housing market suffered a blow and they lost some tenants/tenants couldn't pay, stuff like that). Anyway, their kitchen is gorgeous, but they are now STRETCHED. She's like: "I both love and hate my counter." Hopefully it will be temporary!

(Also - haha! I am so flattered, but I am not very interesting IRL! Kind of quiet, except when bickering with DH or petting our dog. We are not Chip and Joanna Gaines at all! I mean, we're like in that we're a married couple in love, but we're less attractive, not as friendly and way more melodramatic. The other day something went wrong with our car, and both DH and I acted like it was the worst news ever until we snapped out of it. One faulty engine light that we need to have serviced, and DH was like: "God, we just can't get ahead!" Hahaha. Imagine that on camera! We'd never work in this town again!)

@Bababatty - Thank goodness DH listened this time around. It's like he is staunchly against making any changes unless it's "necessary". You know, because I "worry too much". The NP said the same thing she did last time for his treatment: urologist consult + Clomid + CoQ10 + multivitamin. When we came home after the first IUI, I mentioned it and he was SO resistant, like I was making a big deal. He did get the vitamins to his credit.

I think he finally gets that I have had to go through so much to make this happen so far. He can get an appointment, fill a prescription and take his supplements. It isn't crazy. It is kind of crazy to make me go through Clomid + follicular ultrasound + HCG trigger each month when his numbers aren't high. *snap snap*

    I'm a bit sassy today.

QOTW:  Let's talk money!  How are you financing your IF treatment?  Or are you one of the lucky ones with fabulous insurance? So far, all of the cost of our treatments is coming out of our HSA. That being said, we've only done clomid so it hasn't gotten to the expensive things yet.

So, could someone look at my chart for me and tell me if I should move into TWW? I have falsely moved over to TWW when I've gotten crosshairs on FF before. I'm just afraid of doing it again. Never ovulated so I have no clue. I would ask the ladies in the regular forum, but I'm kind of nervous and I feel like you guys would know better... or maybe not, Idk.

I'm another Canadian, so I've only had to pay for SA and the Letrozole prescription so far.

DH and I only recently discussed how far we are willing to go financially... we agreed that we would rather give this our best shot and pay some bills, rather than regret. We are both self-employed and waited until we were financially stable before trying to pop a few sprogs out... more fool us!

@funkykey It was wonderful, thanks for asking! I am vaguely tanned, mostly because I was religious about subscreen. But more importantly, I am full of mai tais.  :D How did your holiday baking go? I recall you and @benjay discussing potential baking fails??

@laurad75 I'm so glad Hamilton was amazing! So jealous!! DH got annoyed that I'd stopped entering the digital lottery every day (because he teaches and therefore preps in the evenings and a show would be disruptive) so we're hoping back into it this year. :-)

Just posting my update in here... Plan to start IUI #2 in the middle of this month.

I've been trying to focus on enjoying each day and re-engaging in hobbies and outside interests. It's hard keeping the mind off TTC but super important. Life really is short, gotta value each day.

QOTW: I am one of the lucky ones... I live in MA. I feel almost guilty saying it. Everyone deserves some level of coverage.
    Me - 35 (DH - 33).
    TTC since May 2015.
    Saw RE in July 2016.
    11/16: IUI #1=  BFN.
    1/17: IUI #2 = BFN.
    5/17: IVF #1. 'long lupron' protocol. E2 = 4800, 'freeze-all', 8R, 7M, 4F, 4B.
    8/17: FET #1.

hello! newbie here :) this looked like a good board to join!

    1.  How long have you been TTC? actively ttc - about 5 months.  been off birth control for the better part of the last 3 years.

    2.  What is your diagnosis? poor endocrine system and insufficient hormones to sustain pregnancy

    3.  What is your current treatment plan? currently on a slew of homeopathic treatments.  meanwhile dh and i track the calendar and try to hit the mark, along with a period tracking app i use (temping, etc).
