Low progesterone!

so I'm hoping we've finally moved from unexplained to explained! It's odd to wish for an abnormal lab finding, but so nice to finally have a reason for why we aren't getting KU!

My CD 21 progesterone came back at 7.9, which is high enough to signal O, but too low to support quality eggs. It took a lot of questioning and research on my end, but if you get a weak O it releases an immature egg, this leaves a weak follicle behind that doesn't secrete much progesterone. So the progesterone is a symptom of the problem and not actually the problem.

Hopefully by simply taking clomid I can get a strong O, mature egg, and strong follicle that releases higher levels of progesterone!

I'm super irritated that when I asked my OB for clomid months ago he refused!! But I'm also optimistic that this will finally be it for us! We should finally be into 20-25% chance per month category, like a normal couple!

@PoeMasque this is wonderful news! Makes me wonder if I should inquire about this too. I hope you're successful with the Clomid!

I'm so happy for you @PoeMasque you finally have an answer - I always think "unexplained" seems like an odd diagnosis. That does seem like a bit of a low progesterone. Do you know what it is supposed to be? I had mine checked when I was 4 weeks pregnant and it was 9.5 and the OB said it should be at 10 but that didn't seem too low to me. I took 1 progesterone pill and had a horrible reaction so I can't take them. I may have my OB recheck it just to double check.

It's supposed to be 12. Above 5 will trigger O, but below 10 means it's likely not a viable egg. This is according to my RE.....it's been hard to find info on it, but I've been snowed in at home and don't have access to my medical journals/references here

the nerd in me is struggling!! Haha

@PoeMasque - good to know. I may go ahead and have it tested again because I was pregnant when it was tested last time. It would be good to have it tested during a normal cycle. I'll talk to her about it when I see my OB on tuesday. These may be my normal levels though and I conceived DD on them. I don't want to take clomid though. If I need to take progesterone I will research a cream that is more natural with much less side affects.

I took suppositories before and had no side effects. Maybe try those? The pills can cause lots of side effects for people

@PoeMasque thanks I will ask her about it. It was horrible! I'll wait though until I get it checked again.
