Small Gestational Sac

Due to some early bleeding, I've had multiple ultrasounds already. Ultrasounds at 7 and 9 weeks showed a small gestational sac around the baby (but a strong heartbeat). I was told the baby is growing fine but the sac isn't keeping up with it. Of course I left the appointment thinking the worst, and now have to wait three weeks to see the doctor again. Have any of you ladies had any experience with a small gestational sac?

Re: Small Gestational Sac

  • I have no experience with this, but I'll be thinking of you. I would assume that the doctor is not gravely concerned if you have to wait another three weeks for an appointment. Remember that at around 12 weeks, the placenta takes over development and the sac basically goes away. The strong heartbeat is reassuring! Hope everything ends up okay!

  • The fact that your doctor doesn't want to see you for another three weeks is a good thing! If your doctor thought there was something really wrong, he or she would have told you. Can you call your doctors office and speak to your doctor or a nurse who can reassure you?
