So, I work at the hospital and just went upstairs to take the newborn pictures for the day. No lie, there is a baby girl up there and her name is She-a. You're wondering, right? It is pronounced She-dash-a!!!!!!!!
My husband and I joked about telling people who asked if we had names picked out that we were thinking of Nate for a boy, but that we would spell it "N8" and for a girl we would name her "9-a" (Nina).
But it was a total joke. ?Someone has actually gone and done it. ?And worse! ?Because they are pronouncing the dash!
A school teacher I know told me this weekend that there is a girl at her school named Precious Nasty. ?Nasty is really the family's last name so I guess with a name like that you have to go completely opposite to offset it. ?:)
A friend of mine told me a similar story one time... Apparently he was standing in line at the grocery store and there was a woman behind him with a very young baby. He started talking to her and asked what the baby's name was. Phonetically it was "fem-all-a". When he asked how she came up with such a unique name the woman said. "Oh, they named her that at the hospital". Yup, you guessed it. She read where it said "female" on baby's wrist band and thought the hospital named her baby. Unbelievable. I wouldn't even believe that one if the source weren't extremely credible.

That kid will have no choice but to be a stripper. Just like Coco Cox.

hahaha wow. That is almost as bad as the little girl that my friend taught in her gymnastics class. She was going through the roster on the first day and stopped when she came to a girl named "Shithead," pronounced "Shi-theed."

I don't know if this was a made up story or not, but I heard of a woman who called her baby Placenta, because she liked the sound of it and felt it was closest to what the baby had been familiar with during the pregnancy. It could be a fake story, but it's one I heard!

Apparently Shithead is a common name... my mom is a school nurse and told us the exact same story a few years ago. The kid's name is pronounced Sha-theed!!!
I was just reading in a magazine this morning that there's a 9 y.o. girl that was named "Talulah does the Hula in Hawaii"
That's her whole name. How crappy
I remember reading about this on BOTB awhile ago! Thankfully the courts intervened and a judge ruled they had to change her name. (That's how I remember reading it anyway)

Thank God. This is exactly why some countries have lists that you have to choose from when naming your child.

I actually heard a baby was named La-a, pronounced La-dash-a. Why do people all of a sudden think that you can pronounce a dash? Where did these people go to elementary school (I'm pretty sure that is where they explain the use of dashes)?
There is a guy named Steve Righ in a band called Mindless Self Indulgence who legally had his name changed to Steve, Righ? Yep, comma and question mark. My music company has some contracts with him and we HAVE to write his name that way everywhere or else we hear about it... lol.

Re: stupid people should not reproduce
You've got to be kidding.
That just angers me.
That is awesome.

?
Someone else posted something about the same name a couple of weeks ago. Could there be two?
OMGGGGGGGGG
"stupid people should not reproduce"
...yet they still do.
::headdesk::
I've heard of the same thing except it was L-ea or something.
Scary to know that there is more than one crazy out there.
That makes it even worse!!! Can you imagine going to school with that name and trying to explain to your teacher what to call you?

le-dash-a. my oh my. they may be starting a movement!
I think we should start putting exclamation points in the middle of our names so we can make the clicky noise like in some of those African tribes.

I do remember this story as well, so I'm a bit skeptical.
I think we heard the first time that the name was She-ra.As in the female counterpart to He-man. Pronounced she dash ra
