Your OB would be the best one to ask. I'm not comfortable with hair dye or nail polish during pregnancy, but some are. I think having a pro do it in a well ventilated salon is preferable. You should be able to call your OB's office and talk to a nurse, or call your midwife (if you are using one) if you can't wait until your next appointment.
FYI: It is good etiquette to introduce yourself on the intro thread, read through the guidelines, and maybe comment on a few other threads before posting your own. It weeds out weird randos and gives people more info. Otherwise we might as well be Yahoo answers.

Thank you! Sorry about that. Can't seem to keep up with my old accounts. I had to make a new one, because I couldn't change the password and get into my old email, but I've been around for awhile. Took a break after 2 pregnancy losses and now I'm back at 20 weeks. Thank you for the hair input. I actually just posted a few weeks ago from my old account, but now I can't get into it.
@xo_vee I'm sorry to hear about your losses. Congrats on your pregnancy!
I am also forever forgetting passwords. I had to make a new Skype account for work because I couldn't break into my old one
If you see any old accounts with Vee, DAS ME! Hahahaha! I'm on here for a few months and I'm done for awhile and I'll be back when I'm pregnant again. PROBLEM IS KEEP UP WITH THE PASSWORD! Hahahah! Thank you so much though
Hahaha! Thank you! Another question, would it have to take a lot of inhaling to harm the baby? I did my hair, but didn't think about the whole well ventilated area and my bathroom was small and now I'm all paranoid and stuff thinking that I inhaled too much stuff or something. Goodness gracious me.

I don't think one time will hurt. In the future, I'd just be sure to open windows, turn on fans, etc.

My doctor told me that it's fine in the second trimester. She didn't even ask me if I dye my hair, but then again, it was purple at the time. Still. Rude to assume.
I personally don't feel comfortable using traditional hair dye during pregnancy. But I also have a history of recurrent pregnancy loss so my body obviously isn't good at this whole thing and clearly needs all the help it can get. If I didn't have a history of RPL I might feel differently about things like hair dye.
I have been dying my hair though. I just paid the extra money for a henna hair dye verified by an independent lab to be 100% henna without any weird chemical additives.
I know A LOT of women dye their hair with traditional chemical dyes during pregnancy and have perfectly healthy pregnancies with healthy babies. So it would probably be totally fine. My OB said it was OK to use chemical hair dye but recommended I wait till the 2nd trimester. If you're 20 weeks you should be good to go. But if you're uncertain you could always clear it with your doctor first for extra peace of mind.

Yes. I have a pregnant client who is a hairdresser herself (and funny enough, also my teacher in cosmetology school).
I told her that because she is pregnant we should patch test her before doing a touch up on her platinum blonde hair. She refused to do a patch test first, and the lightener not only didn't lift properly, so she has a discolored area she hates, but the she also had a reaction to the lightener she has been using for 9+ years (burning and itching on the scalp). We are going to fix it with a pastel pink shadow root, but I gave her some serious side eye for not listening to me.
I have also seen pregnant clients with discolored areas (none that were mine, thankfully) because their hormones changed and affected their formula.
Most demi hair colors are ammonia free and smell great. Permanent hair color that is ammonia free generally has ammonia derived or related ingredients. Henna doesn't really come out once you put it in, because of the way it binds with protein. You pretty much have to grow it out and cut it off.
I'm not a fan of box color because it can't see what color your hair is. So it first lightens the hair and then colors is the hair, which is more damaging than professional color, because we know how to get to where you want without always lightening first. It can also be expensive to remove. Also, never put Splat on your hair.
Anyways. Those are just some thoughts and experiences. ❤️
Im a hairdresser doing approx 6 colours a day, inhaling the fumes and getting the chemical on my skin and I've had two very healthy pregnancies, so did all of my colleagues. You're fine! We colour a lot of pregnant ladies hair, and nothing ever went wrong
I'm 18 weeks and just got mine highlighted Wed by hair dresser. I waited until out of first trimester. I know they say dyeing whole head wasn't good, but highlights were better. I'm not sure about dyeing in 2nd trimester.
I'm allergic to hair dye. Let me tell you that waking up to a bloody pillow covered in pus for a week followed by my scalp and tops of ears "weeping" onto my shoulders two months before my wedding was not a fun surprise.
Hey all, another hairdresser here. As always, do what your doctor says, but I have colored many pregnant women over the years and never once encountered one that had a problem during pregnancy because of it. Also, I was pregnant with DD1 and still worked the entire pregnancy using chemicals every day. She is completely healthy. Now I am pregnant with DD2 and so far so good. My rule of thumb is this: If you are the kind of person who constantly worries, it's probably not worth it. I always tell clients that I'd hate to have them color their hair, be worried about it, and god forbid they suffered a loss they would always wonder if it had anything to do with something they did. But, if you aren't a worrier, you are probably fine to just go for it. There are other options besides all over color like highlights or balayage. Both of which do not touch the scalp in any way. I will say I've never run into any problems with hair color turning funny colors like @semicolon but I would be really interested to see it! Sounds crazy! Also agree with her about not using Henna. Impossible to get out! Just say no!
Re: Box Hair Dye.
ETA: I apologize if that comes off as bitchy but this is your first post. We know nothing about you.

My favorite way is to place everything in foils so nothing touches your scalp while pregnant. But I am pretty cautious.
