March Multiple Moms Check-In Week of 1/2/2017

Hey Ladies!

Can you believe that its 2017 already, and that we already have our first "March" multiples babies born!? Congrats again to @Finallyhismrs07 on your sweet boy girl pair! We can't wait to hear more!

I edited the post so that mamas that have already had their babies can still play.

  • 1. How far along are you / How old are your babies?
I am currently 28 + 6. SO HAPPY to be in the third trimester.

    2. How many multiples are you expecting/do you have? What sex are they?
    Two! di/di boys!

    3. Any recent appointment updates?
My appointment is on Thursday: Ultrasound and then MFM first and then OB appointment.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?
Oh man, I am STRUGGLING. Fortunately, I only have to go to the office once this week.
    Heartburn: Check
    Insomnia: Check
    Braxton Hicks: Check
    Leaky boobs: Check
General fatigue, slowing down, hip pain: check

I have been encouraged that I have been less of a sugar fiend lately, I definitely could use a sugar detox after the holidays

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?
Last night they BOTH had hiccups. It was hilarious. Baby B rarely gets them, so this was weird. They were like dueling banjos.

    6. Have you found any good multiples resources online?
I used Lucie's List for the registry list and have been impressed with Twiniversity.com (that's where i took my twin classes.) I'm not sure that taking the classes is worth it online, I have no idea what that format would be like but in person was great, and they have lots of info on the website. They also have a list of multiple birth discounts and freebies: https://www.twiniversity.com/twiniversity-multiple-birth-discounts/

I stumbled upon: fourtoadore.com when I was skimming through Twiniversity articles, I thought that @AandDM2014  and @ccook1211 might find it helpful. Looks like it is a mom blog of a quad mom. She has a checklist for higher order (Trip/quad) where as most lists I've seen have been geared towards twins.

    7. What is the strangest thing anyone has asked you once they found out you are expecting multiples?
I never knew that so many people were concerned about my fertility. I've found those questions kind of over the top, some from strangers. These boys were a total fluke and were not the result of fertility treatments, but why does it matter anyway? I've been trying to respond as politely as possible, because 1) there is nothing wrong with having to go through IF treatments, I tip my hat to ladies that did and 2)  I assume that some people are so interested because they may be struggling/undergoing treatments. Its a weird place to be in I guess. My husband has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair, so announcing that we are expecting twins opened the flood gates for questions about his disability, too... and whether or not the babies are his  :o

Actually, the weirdest question I got was whether or not they'll be able to read each others minds. Before I was pregnant, I would have come up with a witty smart-a$$ response but pregnant me just stared blankly at the person.

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns?
I'm sure I'll think of something later, mostly I'm hoping to hear from @Finallyhismrs07 once everything calms down! Also hoping that @afbaby0715 is doing OK on hospital bedrest and @mrsyimster is hanging in there on home bed rest!

  • How far along are you / How old are your babies?  30 weeks 6 days!

    2. How many multiples are you expecting/do you have? What sex are they?
    di / Di boys!

    3. Any recent appointment updates?
yes...Baby A flipped and is now head down, which I was so excited about!  As long as he stays that way, which he should, I'm a candidate for at least attempting a vaginal birth.  I'm thrilled. I don't weigh myself at home, but noticed at this appointment that I haven't gained any weight in the last 2+ weeks.  I've been sick, so hopefully the babies grew and I just lost a little weight elsewhere and those things canceled each other out.   Because I want these babies to GROW!

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?
Miserable.  I have all the symptoms/side effects on every single list except hip pain and constipation. My main complaints are reflux, insomnia/fatigue, and trouble breathing.  I don't have any cravings because I feel so gross and get full so easily.  It's a shame -- I love food!

i feel guilty complaining about how miserable I am in my real life (don't know who is struggling to conceive, don't want to seem ungrateful, etc.) so I save all of my moping around for you guys.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?

I guess the moment I didn't notice at all when Baby A flipped!

    6. Have you found any good multiples resources online?
Lucie's List for what to buy...but other than that, not really.  My doula knows a lot about twins and I like picking her brain.

    7. What is the strangest thing anyone has asked you once they found out you are expecting multiples?
Like @direwolfmini I get a lot of questions about whether they are from IVF (if people are being especially insensitive they say "are they natural" -- what would unnatural children be, exactly?). I did take a fertility drug and before I got pregnant I imagined we would be totally open about that but now that the questions seem totally accusatory instead of curious I don't tell that to random people who seem more interested and figuring out how twins must be our "fault."

My husband gets weirder comments because people apparently think twins = I got pregnant twice.  Or we had sex twice?  I don't even know.

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns?
I know we all want our babies to keep cooking but I'm so excited that we've had our first birth and that the babies are doing well!  And we are all so so close...
  • 1. How far along are you / How old are your babies? 31 Weeks

    2. How many multiples are you expecting/do you have? What sex are they? Di/Di boys

    3. Any recent appointment updates? Went today.  Nothing fancy.  Just a listen with the Doppler and everything was good.  In 2 weeks will have an u/s to see if A flipped.  Fingers triple crossed.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions? Misery.  I took off 2 weeks for Christmas and was dreading going back to work today.  It's my busiest month of the year.  Praying I survive.  I sleep for 2 or 3 hours and then wake up in hip/back pain.  Bending over is painful, and my legs and hands are swollen and hurt.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week? I'm finally starting to feel B move a lot.  I was starting to get worried about the little guy.

    6. Have you found any good multiples resources online?
My cousin has 2 year old twins so I mostly ask her.  Other than that not really.

    7. What is the strangest thing anyone has asked you once they found out you are expecting multiples?
Everyone wants to know if they are fertility treatment babies. I don't think it's any of anyone's business.  We did one round of Clomid and I didn't think in a million years we would end up with twins.  I also don't want to offend anyone who has tried for years and finally has their miracle babies. It just seems like an offensive question any way you look at it.

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns? After all of your discussions about delivering the OR last week, I asked my doctor about it.  I also will have to deliver in the OR and only 1 person can be in there.  I'm so crushed my mom can't be in there.  She was my rock last time.

Side note:  Can't believe our first multiple momma had her babies.  Hope she is well.  It's getting very real ladies!

  • 1. How far along are you / How old are your babies?
    25+4 today!

    2. How many multiples are you expecting/do you have? What sex are they?
    Three, two girls, one boy

    3. Any recent appointment updates?
My last appointment was on the 28th, and it was just a typical appointment for me. At the appointment they were all almost over 1.5 pounds. We did let my MFM know that we had a closing date on our new house, so he sent my info over to the new MFM and hospital I'll be going to. I have an appointment set up there on the 17th, which is the same day our house escrow closes!

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?
heartburn, swelling, more heartburn, itchy back bumps, carpal tunnel (though my superhero wristlets have helped a lot), even more heartburn, itchy tummy occasionally. I don't have any stretch marks yet, but if I get another 7-8 pounds of babies in me I just might!  I don't really feel like I have any cravings, but there are certain foods that I've been on a streak of eating: Quaker Oatmeal Squares for breakfast every morning, an american cheese and cucumber half sandwich most days, chocolate anything.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?
We were snuggled on the couch, shortly after dinner, with me on my left side, and DH got to feel tons and tons of kicks! They've been little boogers recently and will stop all movement any time DH puts his hand on my belly, so it was nice for him to get to feel them so much. Of course it prompted him to ask how I ever get any sleep, which I thought was funny since he knows how much I sleep.

    6. Have you found any good multiples resources online?
I too follow Twiniversity on Facebook and click on some of their articles. It is definitely mostly advice for two, but some things are helpful for three. I can't wait to explore Four to Adore, thanks for the suggestions @direwolfmini! I've read a few other blogs of triplet parents, but nothing that I've saved or go back to.

    7. What is the strangest thing anyone has asked you once they found out you are expecting multiples?
I actually haven't ever gotten the "are they natural" question. I guess people assume that with three I did some sort of ART (assisted reproductive technology). I'm very open if anyone asks about them, and don't mind at all sharing that we did IVF. I don't think I've had any strange questions, just normal ones about how far along I am and when I'm due. I do educate nearly everyone who asks when I'm due, especially now that I say anytime between now and March 10th. That always gets them.

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns?
I am definitely starting to get a little more nervous about having three at once. Especially about feeding them. The reason we had to do IVF is because I have a hormone disorder which can affect milk supply, but we won't know until I actually try breastfeeding. I'm hoping that once we go to the new doc I can see about doing a breastfeeding class and talking with a LC.

I'm hoping we hear soon about how the first set of "March" twins are doing!
