Haven't had a check in in a while- how are you doing? Did you/ are you learning their sex(es)?

I dont one have a handy list of questions today (sorry!) but anything on your mind?

I've started contacting companies for discount codes for twins- super pumped at discounts when 2 of everything is $$$!

Re: MoMs- 8/15/16 (multiples)

  • Just feeling so large and pregnant lately.  We are not finding out sex although I think they're boys.

I haven't thought about that, but good idea @TinaBelcher.  What kind of items are you looking at for discounts?  I realized we should probably start purchasing our more expensive items soon so we don't have to do it all at once.

  • I emailed Binxy for a discount code for their cart hammocks- I could probably get away without using them (or using one and wearing the other) but the option of having 2 really eases my mind! Buy buy baby and babies r us both do 10% discounts in store when you buy 2 of the same item for twins, and I'll be emailing a few more companies for accessories type stuff (milk snob is next, I love their car seat covers so much!) Wish I'd thought of this before I bought my first Solly because H wants one too (it'd be nice to have the option of each wearing one!)

I'm definitely feeling front heavy now lol! I keep bumping in to things belly first ::eyeroll:: as of yesterday my belly is getting wider too- not super in to that development LOL! (So vain!)

Been a while since I've been on the site - school year starting and all. :)  We found out that our twins are BOYS, though hubby and I both thought girls! They are 22 weeks now and doing awesome.  I did stay a night in the hospital this week due to a shortening cervix, but I got some progesterone, so hopefully that will take care of it. My husband commented on my growing belly and I'm loving the fact that I'm showing now! Newest symptom with me is the carpal tunnel/numbness/falling asleep thing going on with my hands. But, overall, I'm feeling good.  Only 15 weeks left, I can't believe it!

  • @TannaBean Not a multiples mom here. Just lurking. What is up with the hands falling asleep though? I have that. I wake up every night shaking my hands awake.
  • @teach123 no a MoM either but the hands asleep is carpal tunnel! Super common in pregnancy, if it really bothers you you can wear wrist braces at night but I've always felt like I'd rather just shake my hands in the morning than try to fall asleep with braces on.
  • Congrats on your boys @TannaBean!! I have carpal tunnel too, it's suuuuper fun

  • Hey ladies!!

The numbness is crazy! Not to mention the belly getting bigger by the day! Im starting to bump into things and said goodbye to my feet several weeks ago! I have noticed a pretty big size difference between 20 and 21 weeks. Haven't taken my 22 week pic yet but I feel even larger. I'm scared for the next few months and the growth that will come with that! As long as these little ladies stay in there are are growing, I'm ok with it!

@TinaBelcher I need to look more into the discounts too! I've been lazy about it :/

Anyone else having a hard time with names?

  • Fraternal twins here, one of each! Only 20 wks tomorrow but my maternity pants feel so tight on my stomach. I'm wearing the full panel pants and everything! Does anyone else freak out if you don't feel them kick every day?
  • @jlinke926 I'm scared for the coming months too.  I feel like my belly has had rapid growth since 20 weeks too.  I don't know how I'm going to get around without knocking into everything or feel like I'm going to fall forward all the time.

  • Is anyone taking protein shakes or anything like that to make sure you're getting adequate protein?  I've been trying to make sure I eat more protein in my meals and for snacks but I'm not really sure that I'm getting as much as I should be.  I tried tracking for a while in My Fitness Pal, but I'm bad at being consistent with tracking.  I feel like I'm constantly hearing about how much protein I need and the MFM always asks me so I feel like maybe I need to do better.

  • @ashanne88 definitely, I've been eating a lot of Greek yogurt and drinking Boost high protein shakes (that's what my MFM suggests) when there's only 1 placenta you need soooo much protein to make it last!

@jlinke926 this belly's in the way of everything! I woke up one morning at 20 or 21 weeks way wider but it's growing forward exponentially every day now it seems! (The belly shelf is pretty great though)  :D
  • So ladies are you guys SAHMs? Or are you looking in to childcare? I'm thinking we'll get a nanny 3-4 days a week but I'm frozen in indecision.....
  • @TinaBelcher DH and I both work full time.  DS is in an in home day care.  He's been there since about 5 months old.  I went back to work at 8 weeks and was able to bring him with me until 5 months - this is one perk I really like about the place I work.  We are hopefully transitioning him to a preschool/day care next summer.  If we were only having one more, they would be going to the same in-home as DS.  However, our provider didn't think she can handle twins and every other options is so damn expensive (like more than twice our mortgage for all three).  Fortunately, timing for my FIL to retire worked out perfectly.  They are planning on moving in with us in early 2017 to house hunt and take care of the twins when I go back to work.  I'm planning on taking the full 12 weeks I get before going back since I just don't know that I can handle bringing 2 to work with me.  I'm not sure what we will do if my in-laws end up buying something not in our town.  We'll have to look back into day care.

Honestly, child care is extremely stressful.  I know a number of moms in my area that have used nannies and loved them.  Do you have anyone you can get a personal rec from?  Word-of-mouth nannies seem to have worked out best from what I have heard.

  • @ashanne88 I wish! Only 2 people I know use nannies and they were like magical snowflake situations. I'm on Care.com so I'll have access to background checks and all that, I'm just having such a hard time pulling the trigger. I'll be off for 12 weeks, then going back I have a ton of leniency with part time, working from home, possibly bringing them if they're sleepers.... So I just don't really know what we NEED, you know? *vibrating with anxiety every time I think about it* lol!
  • Speaking of daycare....Im hoping we can pull off a nanny 3 days a week and I can stay home 2 days, but when do I start looking? I wont actually need someone until I go back to work (probably early March) so Im conflicted on when is too early to start looking. I have held off on starting a care.com account, so any advise on timing is appreciated :)

  • So I currently have an 8 month old and I'm 20 weeks pregnant with twins. I don't get much help from my husband because he works a lot comes home and is very tired although he does help me with 8-month old son at times I just know this is going to be very hard. My mother-in-law is a big help but sometimes she has to work. My mother has a 4 year old. So she is also very tired when she gets off of work and she can't be of much help but I know she would do her best. So my question is how the hell am I going to survive physically and emotionally with two newborns and a one year old. I guess I'm also really scared because my son was colic and it was a nightmare. I'm hoping .uffer from it as well as their brother.
  • @jlinke926 the moms in our areas usually wait until the last 8-10 weeks of pregnancy, though I do know a couple who didn't bail down a center until they were already on maternity leave  :o I couldn't imagine waiting that long!

@milozmommy I'm sorry, FTM here but you can do it!! FX the twins aren't colicky! (For any of us ha!)
  • Hugs @milozmommy.  I have a 2 year old who will be 2.5 when the twins are born.  I completely understand your anxiety/stress about taking care of three.  All I can say, is you'll just make it work.  You'll need to figure out a schedule/system that works for you.  Also don't be afraid to tell your husband when you need help.  Be specific.  Maybe you just need him to wash a load of dishes or fold some laundry.  Even little tasks around the house can be a huge help, make you feel less overwhelmed, don't take too much effort on his part and can be done fairly quickly.  I had to be very specific with my DH about what I needed from him in the beginning with DS.

  • Hello everyone! hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there. I was wondering what kind of twins everyone is having? I'm having mono/di...I've been having contractions since 18 weeks and they seem to be more intense lately. Yesterday they were about 5 minutes apart at night but I kind of pushed it aside because I always get tricked like that and that happened with my first pregnancy. Is this happening with anyone else?
  • @milozmommy I'm having mono/di twins too.  Contractions are definitely getting stronger and more frequent.  I find that they seem to be stronger or more frequent at night - maybe from all the day's activity?  None of them have been painful (except when my bladder is full) so I've kind of pushed it aside too.  With DS, I never experienced a ton of contractions so I don't really have anything to go off of.  My water broke with him so it was pretty obvious it was time to go to the hospital.

  • @milozmommy modi here too, I've had contractions regularly since about 25-26 weeks, most nights they end up about 3-5 minutes apart. Per my doctors this is totally normal for twins as long as they don't hurt and you don't have unusual discharge. They're super uncomfortable though!
  • @milozmommy - Di/Di girls here. I don't have a ton of contractions but I do get them on and off. Dr said it's normalnwith twins so I try to just push it aside until they're measurable

  • How is everyone? I will be having my twins on the 10th in just 6 days. Did anyone have their twins yet or have a date when?

I am scheduled for a c/s on 1/16 at 38+2 due to Baby A being breech, unless they come on their own before then. Good luck with your delivery @milozmommy!

I know someone shared that @TinaBelcher had her twins, but I don't remember seeing a birth announcement/story.

  • @canavara thanks! I haven't been very active around here lately, but I've been checking in on you, too. Hoping to see your announcement any time now!
