NT vs Harmony Testing Opinions?

Hi everyone. I'm a first time pregnant lady here and during my first appointment the midwife gave me a little bit of information regarding the different types of screenings that can be done from 10 weeks onwards. She said that the most popular one is the Nuchal translucency screening but also mentioned some new ones such as Harmony and Panorama. Do any moms out there have any thoughts or can share their opinions on which ones might be best?

Thanks for reading!

Re: NT vs Harmony Testing Opinions?

  • If you are under 35, and low risk then NT scan is usually the way to go.   Panorama and all of the other NIPT are better for women over 35 and high risk.   That said, lots of low risk women chose to do NIPT.   NIPT is usually more expensive

  • My midwife told me today that the harmony test, if not needed for other health reasons, was about $800. I'm not sure if it's the same price everywhere but I'll pass. I can wait until the ultrasound it's not even that serious to me lol. But I think they mentioned there was a cheaper one.
  • My first pregnancy my doctor recommended NT scan. Things did not come back well. Since then I have always had the Harmony or MaterniT21. A lot of people say, first pregnancy, no reason to be alarmed, you should skip all testing. However, I was an exception and I would always recommend some kind of testing. The NT scan is typically the first, and if they see anything questionable, you can always have the Harmony or other genetic testing done. Also, amniocentesis or CVS testing is a possibility. Just know you have a lot of options.

  • I had an optional Panoroma test with my 3rd kiddo. I'll AMA this time since I'll be 35 before I deliver, so my insurance should pay for it this time around. It was a simple blood draw, and I received the results 4 days later. I highly recommend it.
  • thanks for your input!
  • My Dr recommended Harmony.  He said it is more in depth and he'd rather have one test done than two.  So I had it done for my second pregnancy and I'm going to have it done this time for my third.  I'd rather know ahead of time if something is wrong, finding out the gender is a bonus.

  • I am going to have the Counsyl Informed Pregnancy screen done. I heard this is now covered by a lot of insurances now (I checked that it is covered by mine). It covers everything the Harmony tests for and more. DH and I did a Counsyl genetic family prep screen before baby, and we'll get the pregnancy one done at 10 weeks. It's just a blood draw and it tells you gender while they're at it.

It gives your results online with a week, two max. Anyone else do this, or are going to?

  • @Mama_Sass Oh wow I didn't realize it would also let you know the gender! Thanks for the info.

@oriole2017 Great to know some insurances cover it. I'll be sure to check with mine.
