What to do? Reflux|Teething|Solid Foods

Hi ladies! So my LO will be 4mos on the 10th and I'm not sure what to do... so the issues we're having is reflux (which she was prescibed Zantac and it didn't/doesn't help really, I exclusively pump), and she's teething (like soaking through multiple bibs per day, gnawing on hands, clothes, etc.) The doctor gave us the okay on adding cereal to her milk since 2mos old to help with the reflux but we're still having issues and now I'm wondering if I should try solid foods at 4mos? anyone else thinking of trying or have tried? Would be interested on hearing how its going...

  • Sorry, no advice here really, just wanted to say that sucks! Hopefully you can get it figured out. The drool situation is crazy over here too. Past experience tells me though that teeth are probably still a few months off. My other two kids seemed to drool and gnaw on stuff for months and months!

  • Zantac is a very unreliable medication for reflux when used exclusively. It is not a PPI (proton pump inhibitor). Many moms report good results with Prevacid but not perfect. Nexium is said to be the God of reflux meds because it is the only one approved by the FDA for babies, does not have a weight to medication ratio, no tolerance issues, and actually helps to heal the reflux as well as slow the acid production. We saw results with Zantac for only about a day. With Nexium we saw a completely different baby for the duration of the meds. It was incredible. The drooling and spit up has been TERRIBLE for our son. He sucks and chews constantly but as long as he is happy then I just keep lots of extra bibs and clothes laying around. About solid foods...reflux babies don't always tolerate solids as well as other babies and will generally still spit up the milk even with solids in the stomach. Since we are bottle feeding I am going to introduce solids at 4 months but we may just skip the grains and go right to squash. It is a great first food. I hear that avocado is a great first food too but don't have much experience with that.
  • We've done avocado. I just mashed it up and added some breastmilk to thin it. Baby loves! Makes diapers super gross though

sorry about reflux. No experience here but sounds really crummy
