Prenatal vitamin made me sick.....

Hi everyone,

I don't know if anyone has said anything about this before, but yesterday morning after I took my prenatal with my breakfast, I got really sick all of a sudden and vomited it back up. The thing is, I've been taking it for about two weeks now and have never had any problems before this.

Anyone else had a similar reaction to their vitamin? I remember I had a small bagel, some tea, and a grapefruit with it. No problems before.

Re: Prenatal vitamin made me sick.....

  • This is pretty common. You may have to find a gummy type until you're out of your first trimester if it keeps up

  • I agree, it's common to need to try different PNVs u til you find one that works for you.  Also, any possibility it was just good old fashioned morning sickness?  If it was the only time you've had it since starting PNVs, that would be my first guess.

  • I would recommend taking it immediately before bed and see if you can tolerate it while sleeping.
  • My doctor recommended that I take it before bed so I don't get as sick. I was already taking it before bed anyways because it gives me headaches.
  • I agree with the last two posters. Before bed is all that worked for me.
  • I have a lot of issues with regular prenatals. My Dr suggested Flintstones Vitamins so now i take those. My morning sickness has been giving me a tough time with everything but I can still get these down.
  • I agree with taking it before bed. Even if I take line with food during the day, it makes me feel awful. If I take it before bed, I just sleep through the nausea.

  • I take the target brand gummy ones, because I have a hard time swallowing pills, but I also take it at night before bed.
  • And I got my vitamins and immediately threw it up. I haven't even has aversions or morning sickness or anything.
    Lovely
  • I've heard horror stories with prenatal vitamins.
This is my third pregnancy and I've always just taken the gummies. They taste good and make you feel fine.

  • I have some gummy ones that have a citrus flavor and are a little sour. They're great and don't bother me at all even when I'm queasy. They are in a squarish bottle and available at target and cvs.

  • I love my prenatal - most of the gummy ones are mostly sugar (not really great for you honestly) and have little nutritional value. My vitamin has aloe which helps absorb nutrients exponentially AND soothes your tummy to help keep it down.

Of course it may just be morning sickness and not your vitamin!
  • I always have to take mine before bed-- in thr morning always made me sick!

  • I haven't even tried taking mine during the day, always right before I go to bed and I haven't had a problem yet
  • Gummy vitamins are completely good for you! Don't listen to the girl above. Only thing they are lacking on is iron. As long as you get iron from your food, you're good. Or from iron pills, which I take anyways since I've always been anemic.

  • She's right about gummy vitamins being full of sugar, but if that's the only way you can take a vitamin then go for it!

I use Honest Company's once daily prenatal. I don't love the taste (it says it's a sweet vanilla coating) but it has ginger and B6 in it as well so I've yet to get sick from it.
  • I find as long as I take my pills with food I'm all good. No food and the pills make me nauseous
