Falls and Injuries

Well, I feel like an idiot and I'm also super anxious. I fell down a flight of carpeted stairs 2 hours ago,  and even though I just fell hard on my butt and only have bruises, I can't seem to fall asleep. I hope there isn't a discussion thread for this kind of thing already, but I'm super nervous. I spoke to the Dr. and she said I'm likely to just have a hurt butt out of this situation, but to look out for cramping and bleeding. She said the baby is super protected in there, and since I didn't land on my stomach, the baby is likely fine. Still, it's hard to just relax tonight, anyone else ever go though something similar?

Re: Falls and Injuries

  • It seems like at least once a pregnancy I end up doing something stupid and falling. Usually I am far enough along that I can feel kicks, which helps ease some nerves. It's easier said than done trying to relax, but kick up your feet and drink plenty of fluids and just monitor yourself. If something feels odd don't feel bad about going in for a check if it will help ease your mind.

  • I fell a couple of weeks ago while jogging on uneven sidewalk. Had my regular ultrasound a week later and everything was fine. Try to get some rest!
  • At 24weeks pregnant with DS, I accidentally pushed a rollie stool (the ones at the doctor's office) back with my calves before going to sit down. It was super slow motion as I grabbed onto the room separator curtains hoping they could hold my weight just long enough for me to get my footing. No dice, fell hard on my arse and besides a jolt-like feeling in my uterus, my butt was sore. It also sucked to keep repeating to patients over and over, "no, I'm okay, I promise!" No cramps, bleeding or bad feeling/intuition to warrant a call to my midwife or an ER visit, and 4 months later I had a healthy baby boy!

  • This was embarrassing so I'm glad it happened while I was home alone. But I was leading my dog by the collar outside and she took off running. She's very strong and she made me fall on my knees really hard and I slid into the wall hitting my head and shoulder. I was pretty worried for a while but I try to remember that the baby has a lot of passing in there.

  • Well, I called my OB today and she wanted me to go to what is essentially a maternity ER that we have at our hospital because I was having some cramping. I was pretty sure the cramping was just gas, but better to be safe than sorry. Long story short, everything seems to be ok except for some pretty sore muscles and some bruising. They listened for the baby's heartbeat, which was normal at 147 bpm and my vitals were all fine, thank goodness. The nurse said that the farther along in pregnancy, the more at risk you can be if you fall, so  at 17 weeks the baby had plenty of padding. Needless to say, I am going to be extra careful going down stairs for the next 23 weeks.
  • @kcrocetto27 glad everything turned out ok!!
