Re: March Multiple Moms Check-In Week of Dec 26th

  • 1. How far along are you?
27 + 6 Third tri starts TOMORROW! *happy dance*

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they?
    Two! Di/Di boys

    3. Any recent appointment updates?
I had an appointment last Wednesday. By some stroke of luck, I passed my 1 hour glucose tolerance test. NO IDEA how. I had the nurse confirm that they called the right patient because I was SURE I had failed. I also managed to gain 8 lbs over the course of 2 weeks.... At least I have big fat babies. My appointment was before Christmas, too... Worried for the next weigh in. The Dr I saw Wednesday seems to think I'll only make it to 32 weeks, but didn't give any reasoning as to why? That caught me off guard.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?
Everything hurts. I'm having a tough time sleeping. I can only tolerate about an hour on my side, and when i flip over (which is an ordeal) my hips are super achy. I keep waking up flat on my back with a painless Braxton Hicks contraction. I have had OK luck with sleeping on my back on an incline, but its a bit of work to get my pillows situated correctly, and it take forever for me to fall asleep on an incline. I'm also not doing so well with being on my feet for long times. I've needed to sit down while prepping meals and trying to clean up.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?
They were going NUTS kicking and flipping on Saturday morning. My husband and I were watching them make my stomach move like crazy. Even though I'm "fluffy" I could make out a baby foot and a baby butt! It was cool, but really weird!

    6. How have the holidays been with the babies/your family?
My dad's family is HUGE (he's the 4th out of 10 kids!!), we get together on Christmas eve. Everyone had a hard time wrapping their mind around me only being 27 1/2 weeks and kept saying, "Any day now!" and "Aren't you excited for it to be over?!" Sure, I'd love to not be uncomfortable, but I am more than willing to be uncomfortable for a million more weeks if that means I can have healthy guys with no NICU time. I did a lot of smiling and nodding and polite due date corrections.

    7. Did you get any fun things for the babies over the holidays / have you bought anything interesting for multiples?
I'm hoping to live vicariously through other people's purchases. I've put a freeze on all baby purchases until my husband can get a new job. We're operating at a deficit right now, so buying baby stuff would be irresponsible. I did get a couple of things at Carter's with some reward points. Their clothes are too cute!!

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns?
I have so many concerns (I'm a worrier) but am mostly just looking forward to hearing from everyone!

  • 1. How far along are you?
29 weeks 4 days!! Made it pass my 28 week first land mark... can't wait to hit 30 and... next 32! 34 is our goal right now

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they? 2 miracles... monodi identical girls

    3. Any recent appointment updates? Saw MFM partner today and my ob (my MFM is out on vacation) this partner is super experienced too. He is very happy that they are stable. Fluid level are good for both. Babies still have placenta resistance, discordance is still there about 15%... but they are growing. Both 1oz since last Friday. So as long as they are both growing and one is not slowing down then that's really good for us already. No signs of ttts... still on high watch so I'll see doc again in a week (I've been having bi weekly appointments, so this gap is pretty big.... kinda worried)

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions? Same as @direwolfmini my goodness I just want to sleep... and ache. And even laying on one side to the other everything hurts... I think BN woke me up a few time 2 nights ago too!!! It was so painful... and needing to pee

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?
baby A shoving her butt in the air... one side of my belly was so lopsided and super high outwards!!

    6. How have the holidays been with the babies/your family?
    Meh. Im
so tired!!!!! And bed rest... I only have energy for like 2 hours then I feel completely exhausted

    7. Did you get any fun things for the babies over the holidays / have you bought anything interesting for multiples?

I bought them a ton of stuff that's essential... I feel like they need more clothes though
i need to stop spending money since money is tight now

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns?
nahhhh one day one week at a time!!  We are all getting close multi mamas!!

  • Hey ladies! Sorry for not starting these the past two weeks. Life has been so freaking busy!

    1. How far along are you?
    24+4 today

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they?
    3, 2 girls and 1 boy

    3. Any recent appointment updates?
I have one this afternoon so I can update later today

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?
I'd say overall I still have it pretty easy, but since about Thursday I think I've developed carpal tunnel. My hands and wrists hurt so much after I wake up, either from bedtime or a nap, but no numbness. I'm asking my MFM about it today when I see him. I have a feeling I'm getting two wrist braces on our way home. Heartburn is still pretty uncomfortable, but I've been limiting myself to one Zantac a day, so I'm also asking if I can take two a day. Yesterday I had a super craving for a peanut butter, strawberry jelly and banana sandwich. It was delicious.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?
Hmm... Pretty much any time they move, but on Monday evening DH and I were snuggling and my tummy was pressed against his leg and they were kicking him so hard. Of course he couldn't feel it, but I sure could! I also noticed that sometimes they'll be kicking me a bunch and DH will reach over to feel them and they'll instantly stop, but as soon as he takes his hand away they start up again. I think they're learning they have to behave around daddy!

    6. How have the holidays been with the babies/your family?
It was awesome. We had super low key events this year.

    7. Did you get any fun things for the babies over the holidays / have you bought anything interesting for multiples?
My SIL got me three of the cutest little knit hats! Oh, and we bought the TripletMobile© on Saturday! It's a Honda Odyssey and is awesome to drive and ginormous! It took both of us to park it in our current garage, and we're not taking it out unless we absolutely have to! We also opened escrow on what is hopefully our new house (with a bigger garage) on Friday, and if everything goes well we should close around January 12th!

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns?
I've seen a lot of ladies posting about BH, and I would think that being pregnant with more than one I'd start to feel them earlier, but I'm pretty sure I've haven't felt any. While it is true that my uterus doesn't need to practice for labor, it's still weird

  • @AandDM2014 How exciting about the TripletMobile (lol) and new house! Peanut butter and banana sandwiches have been my go-to this whole pregnancy! I just had one for lunch + yogurt (nice protein packed lunch!).

Regarding BH, I didn't really notice any until 26 weeks. I can feel them more now because Baby B is up into my ribs and anytime I get a BH contraction, he gets uncomfortably shoved into my ribs. I would guess they were happening before that and I just didn't notice. Not 100% sure?

Random question: Has anyone felt their babies hiccups? It seems like it varies from baby to baby. I THINK I've felt Baby A have hiccups not Baby B, but I'm not sure.

Also, I just realized: We're all at viability now! Wooo HOO! Nice work, mamas!
  • 1. How far along are you? 30 weeks! crazy how close things are getting.

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they? di/di boy twins.

    3. Any recent appointment updates? not really...had a good 28 week appointment (they were each measuring over 3 pounds at the time which was apparently huge) and am going back next week.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?  reflux is my main complaint and making it really hard to sleep. other than that, it's just the general discomfort of being so big.  i have become a slooooow walker and i get exhausted at everything.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?  they've been kicking a lot, but one stuck its but way up in the air and my belly looked silly and lopsided for a few minutes and i think it creeped my husband out a little bit but it was so cool to see/feel!

    6. How have the holidays been with the babies/your family?  good, i've been tired and have a bad cold though so i've been laying pretty low.

    7. Did you get any fun things for the babies over the holidays / have you bought anything interesting for multiples?  we still don't have much for the babies, but we have bassinets, a stroller, and car seats.  i'm going to buy some really basic clothes this week and then i'll feel like we have the really minimal stuff (we're jewish and not having a shower, but typically a lot of gifts come in after they're born.  i'm expecting excessive amounts of clothing so trying just to buy the essentials to get them home from the hospital for now).

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns? What are people in cold weather getting in terms of stuff for the stroller, carseat, etc.?  I understand they can't wear bulky stuff in a car seat but they sell so many different stroller covers, etc., i can't tell what's what.
  • @direwolfmini i THINK i've felt hiccups -- didn't feel that different from really light kicks except that they were regular/rhythmic for a minute or two.  the rhythmic part is the only thing that made me think they were hiccups.

@mrsyimster i described like the exact same situation you did about a baby's butt up in the air -- too funny!  i loved it.

@AandDM2014 i hope you get approved for twice a day zantac!  I have been taking it 2x a day and it hasn't totally made my symptoms go away but at the same time it is the only thing keeping me going / making life bearable.
  • @anonellis Chicago here! I decided to go with the carseats that already have a cover: https://www.chiccoshop.com/gear/car-seats/infant/keyfit-30-zip-infant-car-seat-and-base---singapore/06079015420070.html

The mom's in my twin Facebook group seem to be crazy about these:
J Cole Bundle Me Infant: https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/jj-cole-reg-infant-original-bundleme-reg/125660?skuId=17442880&mcid=PS_googlepla_nonbrand_activity_&adpos=1o3&creative=87525615900&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&product_id=17442880&gclid=CLyZx5rpl9ECFc26wAoduOQGeA
J Cole Bundle Me Toddler: https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/jj-cole-reg-toddler-original-bundleme-reg/125661?Keyword=bundleme
*They also have more expensive "urban" and "deep freeze" ones, not sure how essential they are?
Another brand they seem to like is 7AM Enfant:
    https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/7-a-m-reg-enfant-car-seat-cover/3278436?Keyword=7am+enfant

I'm also going to have my mom make a carseat poncho for when they're bigger: https://www.etsy.com/listing/252477372/carseat-poncho-sizes-124?ref=market (not that exact one, but something like that. She's super crafty and jumped at the chance to make something for the boys).

We also went with a stroller that has bassinets, but I think we're going to use the bassinets primarily for sleeping the first couple of months. If I do take them out when its still cold in the bassinets, I plan on layering them with warm clothes (fleece footie pj's, and baby mittens), a hat, and a baby blanket.

Since the winter has been so wonky already, I have my fingers crossed that the weather will mellow out in March!
  • 1. How far along are you? 30 Weeks

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they? Di/Di Boys

    3. Any recent appointment updates? No appointment till next week.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?  Just feeling generally very uncomfortable due to being so big.  Also, starting to have uncomfortbale pressure when changing positions.  Like when I stand up it basically feels like they might fall out.  May be because of my cerclage.  Anyone else having pressure issues?

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?  Their movement has slowed down some.  It's scaring me a little but I'm treasuring the smal
    movememts I am feeing.

    6. How have the holidays been with the babies/your family? BUSY and exhausting.  Still have some family in town so probably won't slow down till next week.  My energy level is just not up to what is usually is.

    7. Did you get any fun things for the babies over the holidays / have you bought anything interesting for multiples?  We got lots of clothes for Christmas.  Seeing those tiny little clothes makes it seem so close and real.

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns?

  • @AandDM2014 - We got a mini a few months ago after we knew we would be a 3 kid family and needed to get a new car anyway.  At first I went through a period of mourning because I was one of those, "I'm never going to be a minivan Momma," but I actually love it now.  You're going to love it!  So easy to get my DD in and out of and so much storage.

  • @direwolfmini thanks, that list is SO helpful! we are thinking the same thing about the stroller -- got two bassinets with it but are planning on using those for sleeping in our room and therefore probably won't use them in the stroller much.  maybe when they're teeny tiny, right at first?  but i imagine we'll be hibernating those first few weeks!
  • @direwolfmini I usually do pb and banana, but for some reason adding the jelly just sounded really tasty yesterday, and it was! I think I've felt baby hiccups once. It was not as strong as kicks feel and was very rhythmic and even.

@anonellis Yes, my doc said twice a day was okay, which was great because we stopped at Target on the way home and bought some more and I took one before we even left the parking lot!

@WF7968 Oh I was definitely very against getting a mini van, but with three babies at once, and then having three kids, nothing else really seemed like a good fit. I already enjoy driving it and can't wait until we move and I can actually take it out places! (we're leaving it in the garage for now as it takes both of us to park it)

  • 1. How far along are you? 31 weeks

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they? Di/do twin miracles. Boy/girl

    3. Any recent appointment updates? Had an appt with my MFM last week. Blood pressure was a little higher than it had been so they are monitoring that pretty closely now. Increasing my appointments to weekly with ultrasounds of the babies at each appt moving forward. Also found out that even if we get to try for a vaginal birth I have to deliver in the OR. Glad to have found out now rather than later but still trying to wrap my head around that...

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions? - honestly, I am beginning to hit the miserable stage. I'm exhausted but can't sleep, can't be on my feet for more than an hour without needing a break, and fighting BH contractions.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week? - Feeling then move (especially when not in my ribs). Never gets old.

    6. How have the holidays been with the babies/your family? The holidays have been good. A little to busy for my body apparently but it has been nice to have the week off of work and get some things done.

    7. Did you get any fun things for the babies over the holidays / have you bought anything interesting for multiples? We got the dresser in and have been working on getting the nursery set up, clothes washed, etc. that has been really fun to do with DH

    8. Any questions / comments / concerns? - I don't think so. Just taking it week by week at this point and hoping to keep these little ones cooking for several more weeks.

  • @Finallyhismrs07 I was disappointed to hear about delivering in the OR too (although I found that out in the first trimester so I've had time to adjust and I've talked through what it entails with my doula who has been to a bunch of OR births).  I've been warned that the room is really cold!
  • @Finallyhismrs07 @anonellis add me to the disappointed about the OR club. My doctor told me at my first ultrasound immediately after I found out we are having twins.

I clarified with her (well into my second tri...) that I would actually labor in a regular labor and delivery room, but would move to the OR when I was ready to push (they need to leave the ORs open for emergencies etc). I also confirmed this when we did the hospital tour.

I actually think my mom might be the most disappointed. At my hospital you can have 3 people in the L&D room with you, but you can only have 1 in the OR. I was planning on having my mom there for the delivery. We're close, she is a retired nurse, and worked for several years in L&D.

Are your doctors also requiring pain management? I have been "strongly urged" to get a epidural. They won't require it, but in an emergency situation they would have to knock me out to deliver the babies. I'm going to get the epidural because I don't want to run the risk of missing the births.
  • @direwolfmini - My doctor doesn't require it but they also strongly encourage it for the same reasons. Also, I was told that if they had to knock me out to deliver the babies then DH would also not be in the room and so he would miss it as well. My doctor also made the point that in my case, Baby B keeps flipping but seems to prefer the breech position, once they get A out, they will either have to flip her or deliver breech and those things are incredibly painful without an epidural. Because of those two risks I decided on getting the epidural even though I had originally gone in planning on attempting a natural birth.

I am starting to get over the disappointment with the changes and am trying to focus on the fact that if something goes wrong we are in the perfect place for them to deal with it which will mean an optimum outcome for both me and the babies.

  • @Finallyhismrs07  I agree with you, completely! I've been trying to focus on how this is the best option for my babies rather than feel disappointed that I won't get to have the natural birth I wanted. (Of course, I say that having never been in labor before, who knows... maybe it'll start and I'll feel relieved that I was told to get an epidural.) I feel like the babies are getting so much attention (prenatal, and for the delivery) that my mind has been put at ease and I am so much less worried about delivery. There are so many other things to worry about when having twins!

My Baby B is doing the same thing. He prefers breech so that he can better kick his brother :D . I actually feel fortunate to be having twins, not many OBs/midwives are willing to attempt a breech delivery for one baby, but with twins many OBs/midwives are willing to deliver Baby B breech and "pull them out by the legs".

My mom had to have an internal AND external version with my brother to get him to flip (it was the 80's, they would do that before attempting CSections back then), and she said that was the worst pain she'd experienced in her life! My mom delivered two 10 1/2 lb babies... so, I'll take her word for that. I would MUCH rather endure a version with an epidural... a BIG one...

  • @direwolfmini @Finallyhismrs07 I didn't put up a fight about the epidural once they described the various ways the might need to get baby B (a lot of the time even a head down baby B will spread out and chill once the first baby is out -- just think of mornings when your partner finally gets out of bed and you can sprawl at last!).  I honestly can't remember whether they required it or just strongly encouraged it because I got on board.  Right now, both babies are still breech and we are running out of time for baby A to turn, so I would be thrilled with any vaginal delivery right about now...
