I've been cleaning all afternoon! We're having a NYE party tmrw night, so that's definitely part of the reason why I'm cleaning. But I really haven't been able to stop! And it's not just cleaning, organizing too. I'm having a nesting moment. At least I can HOPEFULLY start 2017 with a mostly clean house! Now I'm in Samuel's room getting ready to start organizing because I'm hoping DH will set up the changing table later tonight and I need to reorganize the chaos.
you are so much more organized than I am! I have nothing done. I have all the clothes we've bought mixed up in boxes. I have no idea what I have and what I still need. And other than clothes a few boxes of diapers and a highchair we have basically nothing yet.
@Omie_Wise I got a maternity pillow for Christmas, it's a Leach Co. I was super excited because I haven't been sleeping well and it was really soft and fluffy. Then I used it, and it makes me feel like I'm trapped. Its too fluffy. DH complains that he can't get anywhere near me, he calls it a force field. I keep using it hoping I can make it work but after about an hr I just push it off onto the floor. Luckily we have a memory foam mattress and there is a hump in the middle the bed I can rest my bump on if I'm desperate.
@cafedisco I practiced hypnobirthing before having DD and while I didn't find it to be 100% effective there were some aspects of it I did find useful in labour, such as focusing on one point in the room or having an object with you to focus on during contractions. Labour wasn't quite like I expected it to be so everything I intended to do basically went out the window and I just kind of winged it...but I do plan to reread the book and practice again before this baby
@Ekzerr did you just read the book before or take a course too? Also curious if you practice meditation outside of hypnoborthing? Thanks for your input!

@HGRich I've been complaining about this since I got pregnant! I never knew how inaccurately pregnancies were portrayed in TV/movies before. My biggest pet peeve is when the woman throws up once or twice, takes a positive pregnancy test, and her nausea is then magically gone (this happened on parks and rec when Leslie had triplets... Major eye roll).
@HGRich@kitkat8387 Another misrepresentation by the movies/TV is that your water will break while you're out shopping or something. The vast majority of women have to have the doctor break their water while in labor. I think only about 10% of women's water break on their own.
Even when it does break it's usually not like in the movies! The cover the department store floor in one giant gush and the contractions come perfectly in sync with it and you need to be rushed to the hospital in a huge panic because you're going to push the baby out in two pushes.. all lies.. for me it was more like I couldn't stop peeing my pants. I called my Dr, took my dog for a walk, got my bag together and drove to my husband's work before driving to the hospital. 25 hours later my daughter was evicted via Emergency c-section.
Do you guys think it's too early to wash baby's newborn clothes and get them organized in the nursery? I am in the camp of having things done early "just in case" and I don't want DH to have to do it.
@Taylor72 If it'll help you to feel organized, go right ahead. Do what feels best for you. Obviously there's no rush (we're a long way from April and if you have a preemie they won't be coming home until closer to April anyway) and you may want to wash them again closer to the time so they're fresh, but there's no harm in getting organized if it makes you feel good.
@Taylor72 if you are ready for that stage, go ahead and do it. I was thinking about throwing everything in the wash last night, but we still don't have a dresser, so I'll do it when I have something I can actually put the clothes away in instead of having them back in piles on the ground.
@cafedisco I was interested in taking a class but couldn't find one in my area that worked with my schedule unfortunately! I occasionally practice meditation either just breathing (on the rare chance I have time to myself ) or listening to a guided meditation on YouTube. I did buy and read the book and practice with the cd that came with it! DH practiced with metal but he often fell asleep during haha. I'd say it's definitely worth getting the book at least as I definitely used at least a modified version of some of the techniques in there. Another good book I read is Ina May's guide to child birth. It's a bit old school as some of the stories we're from the 70s but it helps you get out of your head regarding labour and delivery!
@Ekzerr good to hear! I have the Ina May book sitting on my night stand but I've yet to crack it open. I've been reading the Bradley book, babywise, and happiest baby on the block so far. Just trying to take it all in and decide what works best for me/us. I did guided relaxation tapes when we went through IVF and loved it. Maybe I'll have to look in to some of the hypnobirthing techniques. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Today's random: I found a set of shudders for $5 while thrifting today. I'm super stoked about them, but overly anxious about whether I should paint them or leave them as is.
Please ignore the b!tch of a chair that I've been reupholstering since June and may soon get tossed through a window.
I really wanted to go see a movie, any movie. DH refused to see the new Star Wars with me, saying "you can go see that with your Star Wars friends." Um, what the heck is that supposed to mean? Anyway, we saw (& loved!) Collateral Beauty. Anyone else?
Sooo... we still don't have a name. We don't even have a short list. We're Team Green so I understand it's a little harder narrowing down names for both a boy and a girl, but like we literally have nothing.
Also, everyone seems to think we're lying about not knowing the sex or having a name. A co-worker almost made me cry the other day because she told me I was selfish and didn't what to share the sex or name. Umm... excuse me? Because you're who to this baby?
@Rachelgreene don't feel bad about not having a name. We still aren't even close and we know it's a boy.
Also, that really sucks that people are giving you a hard time about being team green. I get aggrivated when people think we just don't want to share a name, so I can't even imagine.
We're having a boy and no where near decided on a name either! I also knew the sex of the baby for weeks before we told people. My baby my decision on what others know and when. Screw her.
DS is having his first nap in his big boy room. Transitioning him over went better than I thought it would, and he was pretty pissed off at me when I left (cried for a few minutes, then took all of his books and shoved them under the door into the hallway ), but he's sleeping. Only problem is that he's not in his bed; he's on the floor right in front of the door like he's waiting for me to come back and get him. It hurts my poor momma heart a little bit. I know he'll adjust and that this has gone wayyy better than I expected it would, but I still feel bad. Bah.
@KirstinH88 awesome! Looks so good! I can't wait to show photos when we finally do the nursery in two and a half months. Though I finally bought art for the walls at least.
@SnarkasaurusRex lol at the books! I'm sure he's ok. We had to practice big girl bed things with DD, like fixing her blanket, getting teddy off the ground, etc. Maybe he just needs a practice session. This is what we do if we accidentally throw a fit and end up on the floor! It's great he's sleeping!
@KirstinH88 sooooooo cute! I love calming tones in a nursery. Samuel is one lucky guy! Also, since this IS the random thread, what does your foot tattoo say?

@KirstinH88 too cute! We started work on the nursery today by painting and DH is currently building the dresser. Tomorrow is crib and hanging artwork. I am so excited!
Thank you all. I always get a vision of what I want and DH thinks I'm crazy, but then when the work is finished, he agrees that it looks really nice. The same thing happened with our vanity remodel. Can't wait to see everyone's nurseries as they make progress!
@cafedisco the foot tattoo says "Live the life you dream." I thought it up about 6 years ago when I was living in Spain, living a completely single, carefree life. Just living my dreams. I still love it to this day. It's a reminder to me to really just love my life and live it fully.

My mama always taught me to be an independent woman. I "built" this today for Samuel's room while DH took a nap. Take that @cafedisco!

Any talk of birth is 100% freaking me out at the moment. Not. Ready. I'm still considering hypnobirthing...anyone done it?
My body pillow is named Frank. He's definitely my other mister.
