TTC After a Loss

BBT Question

I've been charting my BBT and judging by my cervical mucus I should have ovulated on Wednesday, but I still haven't seen a spike to indicate that ovulation occurred. Has anyone had this happen before? I really wanted to see how long my luteal phase was, so I needed to know the day. I had bought an OPK but it said I ovulated on day 6 of my cycle which I feel like was an error.

Re: BBT Question

  • I just had it where my temp spiked a day or two later than I expected. it didn't necessarily coincide with my cm but pretty sure I ovulated either really late in the day or super early while I was sleeping.
Do you know when you usually ovulate, are you temping at the same time everyday, where are you at in your cycle now?

  • In July I ovulated on day 14, then in August I ovulated on day 11, then I got pregnant and had a miscarriage. I'm on day 13 of my cycle today and I think I ovulated around day 9 or 10 this cycle. I take it right around 6 am everyday, and keep it on my husband's night stand so he'll get it for me in the morning so I don't move at all before I take it. My cycles were right around 26 days after my miscarriage in May, and then for November I got my period after just 24 days. Everything just seems kind of off recently. But I had all of the RLP work done with my RE and everything came back normal except low vitamin D and I tested a low positive for anticardiolipin antibodies. I've been taking baby aspirin this whole cycle, so I'm not sure if maybe that could affect it.

I have seen some women that have ewcm, it goes away and then comes back a couple days later (just saw it over on the TTGP board this morning). But that being said, our bodies do weird things after mc and it can sometimes take several cycles to regulate. I know I have had a problem with short cycles since my MC in June and my November cycle was the most normal that I have had since. So my advice at this point is continue checking cm and temping, and if you feel comfortable doing so check cervical position. CP is like a backup sign for cm.

  • @heatherwilson321 Were you doing OPKs the whole time? If you use Fertility Friend to chart and want to link your chart, I can look at it. I'm not really that great at chart stalking but I like trying to figure things out! (also have no idea how you actually link your chart on here, I've just seen it done...)

  • There's a slight rise, but only a little higher than it was like 2 days before it. And the only reason Glow put a coverline there is because that's when I was supposed to ovulate counting days wise. All of my ovulation spikes in the past have been dramatic increases almost a whole degree higher.
I used the clearblue digital opk, so after I got my peak symbol on day 6, you can't use it anymore.
  • Here's my previous two I'm comparing it to.
  • I would probably put O on cd 11. And that is not too uncommon. I had 1 or 2 cycles post mc that I O'd on cd 11 or 12. It looks like you have really good timing. FX for you.

  • Thanks! Also my husband is about to go out of town for a week, so I was worries about missing our chance this month.

  • I think I might need a new thermometer, I just took it right before bed just to see what it said and it said 95.49, then I took it again right away and it was at 97.91.
  • Yeah the last time I tried temping my thermometer was a nightmare. this one seems to be acting normal though
  • My temps are just stressing me out. They're not acting normal at all. I know I ovulated on cycle day 12 or 13 this month because of my OPK and cervical mucus, but my BBT is everywhere and shows no spike at all. I'm just worried this is affecting me getting pregnant or maybe tied to all my miscarriages this year.
  • @heatherwilson321 I'm sorry for the confusing chart. Unfortunately, I don't see an ovulation pattern in your chart yet. It's entirely possible to get positive OPKs and fertile CM and still NOT ovulate. These signs are great for predicting when you MIGHT be fertile, but only your BBT can confirm it. If you didn't ovulate, you may still ovulate later this cycle, so I'd keep checking CM and using OPKs. If you did ovulate, you may have a slow rise pattern, or something else that's not an "ideal" pattern. (These are still common patterns and totally normal, just not considered ideal for easily determining O). Usually if you keep temping, things clear up farther into your luteal phase. However, when in doubt, HIO!
  • @RiverSong15 If you don't O, will your period still follow your same schedule if you are always regular?
  • @justsuzie Like most things with TTC, the answer is "maybe".  Some women will get bleeding right on time, others will have a long cycle that ends in bleeding, others will go 60+ days without any bleeding and need a "jumpstart" with medication. Options 2 and 3 are more likely, but it is possible to be getting fairly regular "cycles" and not be ovulating.

Fun fact: if you don't ovulate, any bleeding is technically "anovulatory bleeding" and not a "period" by definition, but practically and for charting purposes, they amount to the same thing.
  • I finally had a temperature shift today, but I'm nervous because if my 24 day cycles stay the same, that's going to put me at just a 9 day luteal phase.
  • I've read that B6 can help lengthen your LP, I already take prenatal vitamins, would a B6 supplement in addition to that be too much? I read that too much B6 can cause nerve damage.

@heatherwilson321 Your average cycle length does  not determine what your LP will be this cycle, and your luteal phase length is not what determines your cycle length. The follicular phase is what determines cycle length. LPs rarely vary by more than a day or so for any individual woman, regardless of when they O, but follicular phases can vary greatly. Bodies are jerks and like to do random things for random reasons (and it doesn't necessarily mean you have a problem if you O late or if your O date varies month to month). So, since you ovulated later than normal for you, your cycle should therefore be longer. You should take your normal LP length and add it to the CD you ovulated on.

For example, I ovulated on CD18 this month, my LP is about 13 days, so my cycle should be 31 days long this month. My period would officially be "late" on CD32. If I had ovulated on CD25, I would therefore expect my cycle to be 38 days long, and my period would not be "late" until CD39. My cycles vary between 28 and 35 days, but my LPs are consistently around 12-14 days. My cycle variation is entirely due to variable O dates. So, if your cycle goes to CD25 and you get a BFN, don't freak out - you just ovulated late and should expect a longer than normal cycle.

FWIW, I wouldn't mess around with taking B6 unless your LP is normally too short. Just because you O'd late, that shouldn't affect your LP length.

Edit to Add: are you using the Ovia app? Based on the screenshots you shared weeks ago, I disagree with the O date on all of your charts. For example, your Aug 17 cycle - it looks like Ovia is putting your O day on CD8, but you have temps around the same range through CD11 and then have a HUGE temp spike on CD12. Based on that, you ovulated on CD11, NOT CD8.  I tried Ovia for a while but stopped because I realized it does NOT really take temps into account when determining your O date. It assumes your LP is 14 days and subtracts that from your average cycle length. That is NOT an accurate way to determine O. No matter what app you're using, I'd recommend downloading FF and putting your info from this cycle in there. It's a much more accurate program. It might be a good idea to go back and double check your old charts to determine when you actually Od and if you've been timing sex appropriately for TTC
  • Thank you so much @RiverSong15. This has given me a lot of relief over the next 2 weeks.
  • I use the Glow app, I think it's taking into consideration when I have a positive OPK more than anything, that's typically when it adjusts my O date. I mostly use the app to track my BBT more than anything, I usually base my ovulation off my CM and OPKS and BBT. Thanks for the info in the edit, I'll try that app out.

@RiverSong15 My cycles are similar to yours. I honestly think my right and left ovary are on different cycles. Left side ovulates on cd17, right side is cd21.
