Spinal headache?

edited December 2016 in December 2016 Moms
did anyone experience this?  We are playing it by ear but I am bed bound (completely flat) while we figure out what's going on.  Had some BP spikes and this persistent headache that seems to be relieved only by lying flat. Hoping we can treat it without a blood patch

  • *lurking (aka stalking you, we're in a FB group together, think bitchy mom of three girls.)  ;)

I had this happen after a lumbar puncture. I had two blood patches, first one wasn't done properly, second time worked and I instantly felt better. After the first one, I'd stand up and instantly pass out.

Also, not sure if you remember but this happened to Meg too. She had the blood patch also.

Hope you feel better. DD2 is adorable, I swoon over her name. <3

  • @Stankonia2014 I'd recognize that picture anywhere
  • Ugh bump ate my post hold on a sec
  • @Stankonia2014 I was actually going to reach out to meg in a bit. I was holding off because I remember she had a tough time so I wanted to talk to the Drs and have a clearer picture of what's going on before I open up a Pandora's box of what-ifs in my mind (per usual

Omigosh it ate my freaking post again. Long story now much longer...
we are going home tomorrow in the hopes that it resolves in the suggested 7ish days as long as I follow some suggestions i.e.: laying flat, hydration and caffeine intake.  Jeremy's off for the next 2 weeks so we should hopefully be able to make it work. The risks of going for the blood patch right away freaked me out a bit so that will be a last resort that we are praying we won't need
  • I'm going to lose it on TB...
    Anyway.
Thanks so much for checking in❤️❤️❤️
  • Happy freaking birthday to me. I can barely get out of bed and I feel like I'm watching my little family grow and bond from the outside looking in. I'm utterly useless right now.
My mom is taking me to the hospital this morning so we can try the blood patch. I'm so nervous about having another  spinal type procedure but I can't keep going like this. I'm beside myself..
  • I'm sorry you're not feeling any better, but if the blood patch takes, you'll feel soooooo much better.
  • I'm so sorry! Prayers all around you!  :/ Hugs lady!

Due December 27th with baby #7

  • **Lurking from J17.** @Christinaruth74 I had the worst spinal headache. It was the worst part of the pain even after a traumatic labor. I delivered 12/16 and it really was intense starting 12/18 (I think I had it before, but I was so exhausted and everything hurt). The last thing I wanted was a blood patch after dealing with so many things in labor. I took Percocet and pounded caffeine (usually I can only handle one cup of coffee, but the anesthesiologist said that caffeine will give relief). It was so horrible because I couldn't even sit up to feed or burp my baby, so I completely empathize with you. I went for a long-ish walk (super slow, as much as my body could handle) on 12/21 when the caffeine/Percocet were doing their job and after that, little by little, it started to get better, but I was still in insane pain sitting up, even just to go to the bathroom. Then! On 12/23, exactly 1 week after giving birth, it was gone!! Completely gone. The anesthesiologist said give it a week before the blood patch and I'm glad I did. I think the moving around was key to healing. I'm sorry you're going through this!!
  • @newyearsbaby5 thank you so much for sharing your experience! I've been really gleaning from others who've had similar experiences because it truly is like nothing I've ever experienced.

The pain was so so intense yesterday that I had to go back to the hospital and went through with the blood patch. I was so discouraged when I left and the pain returned almost full force. But so far today I have been upright all day... even changed a diaper (the first one I've been able to change since she's been born!)

the headache isnt gone completely, but right now it's just a tolerable pressure and I'm praying I'm turning a corner. This has been such a weird experience... almost out of body. Like I'm watching my kids and husband and everyone function around me but this pain has been all consuming.

did it affect your sleep at all? I've been really struggling at night. It's like I'm so completely exhausted but as soon as I try to go to sleep I feel like I'm crawling out of my skin.. my heart feels like it's racing and I just can't settle my mind/body.  Last night I finally took some benedryl which eventually helped me to fall asleep.  I'm sure the PP hormones aren't helping anything either
