TTC after 35

New member introduction

Hi, everyone!

DH and I have been together for 9 years and married this April. I'm 35 and he's 38. We love our two cats, but would like to have at least one child. We waited a long time to get married becuase we wanted to be settled in our careers. I'm a medical librarian, so I do a bunch of health-related research for my job. In my spare time, I read TONS. I love crafting and baking and am anxious to get back to quilting. I've made about 8 quilts so far and have plans for about 10 more.

We're just starting TTC this month. I've been really concerned about the chances of ttc #1 after 35 and am psyched this community exists. I've been on bcps for over 15 years and honestly a little worried about my cycle resetting and actually ovulating.

I can be kind of shy, but I'm looking forward to joining this community!

Re: New member introduction

  • Welcome! This board is pretty quiet, but that can be kind of nice compared to other boards where you have to post daily to be considered a "member".

If yoi want a more active board you can also try the TTGP board. A lot of people participate on both :)

  • @PoeMasque- thanks for the welcome!  :)
  • Welcome! Yes, this board is a bit quiet but that's not a bad thing. TTGP can be a mosh pit sometimes, but not bad. I usually post in TTCAL. Keep us posted!

  • Welcome! I actually like that this board is a bit quiet so it's not too overwhelming or time consuming, yet an awesome support for us 35 and overs. Like you, we waited a while to get married as I wanted to finish my masters in public health and be settled a bit professionally first. I was 38-1/2 when conceiving DD so you never know. I wish you all the best! Looking forward to getting to know you on this TTC journey.
  • welcome!  I'm 36 and my best advice to you is to not stress about it.  It's driven me out of my mind.  I think I'll be having a CP soon and when we start trying again I'm not tracking a thing and going with the flow.

  • @Momifbysea, @vlagrl29 - thank you for the warm welcome! I'm trying not to get too crazy about it, although I'm already nuts. hopefully I can ease into temping and charting this first month or two and not go bonkers.
  • I'm not charting or temping any more. The cycle I got pregnant I didn't do any of that.

  • @libgirl1981 just for a different perspective, I tried to force myself to be "chill" the first 6 months we tried, but once I started temping and monitoring everything I actually felt better. It was so much less stressful to know when I was ovulating for sure. Stress does NOT lower your chances, so don't worry about worrying! :)

  • Yeah everyone is different. People feel better charting especially if they have wonky cycles. I'm just very regular with mine.

  • tw----------loss mentioned

@vlagrl29  I didn't temp before my loss and wish I had because now, trying to start has been so overwhelming. I think I may be jumping to your side and just stop.  I got pg both times not charting and temping.  Unfortunately both ended in loss.

@libgirl1981 I was late to the game too ttc.  I just got married this past summer.  Good luck with your journey.

    Intro:
I intro'd back in June when we first ttc. But here goes aga@vlahop

    Me 36.5 and DH 33.
    TTC since 6/16
Faint positive in August that ended in CP.
BFP#2 9/15  Ectopic loss 9/23 6 shots of methotrexate.  Still waiting impatiently for AF to show up!

I am benched until 2 full cycles before we can ttc again.  We might wait longer just for peace of mind.  The research is all over the place about the timing after methotrexate based on different schools of thought. I feel like when my cycles are regular again we will ttc.  I was always regular before the losses.

I am on the ttcal board frequently because it's more active and I take comfort in the fact that I have support from others who have had similar experiences. I've been feeling lately that I have so many odds stacked against me with my age, loss history, and some medical problems.  I am hoping to not put all my focus on ttc and try to let it happen naturally without any medical intervention, but I am not opposed to that, just not financially ready for that right now.
  • Charting and all that gave me lots of stress. I'm a worrier by nature and a tad OCD.

  • @justsuzie - thank you! FX AF shows up soon and you become regular again.

@vlagrl29 - I'm a bit of a worrier too, so I am hoping it doesn't get too stressful to keep it up. I'm really just hoping to get a handle on my cycle - been on BCPS so long I can't remember my cycles beforehand.
  • Welcome. I will say that it took my body 6 months to regulate itself one I discontinued bcp. Everyone is unique, that's just my experience. I enjoy charting and temping because I like to be involved and I love interpreting data.
