Sharp pain..

I have been experiencing some miner pain every time I lay down. Usually if I'm laying on my back for a period of time. It will start in my back, and shoot to my stomach. Almost feels like it could be a contraction. It makes me really nauseous and I have to breath in and out for it to go away. I did experience this same thing with my son, however I can't remember if I ever asked my ob about it, and what it could be.
Anyone else having similar symptoms or know what it could be? I have an appointment next Wednesday so I'll be talking to my dr.

Re: Sharp pain..

  • @GinaReed is it every time you lay down or just occasionally? Do you notice if it's after you eat? Wondering if it could be bloat/gas pain from baby taking over your space. Either way don't be afraid to call you dr before your next visit if you are concerned!

  • @email2ash It's just occasionally. I would be more worried if it was eveytime. Like I said I didn't have the same pains with my son so I'm wondering if it's just growing pain or something of that nature. But I'll defiantly be asking my dr! Thank you :)
  • I notice sometimes gas pains are tied to changes in elevation (sitting to standing to laying down etc). And the pains can definitely be sharper during pregnancy because of bloat and your organs shifting.   Check with your doctor just in case.

  • I get really sharp gas pains sometimes.  Man are they painful but thankfully pass quickly... no pun intended!
  • This happens to me occasionally, but it's just been gas pain. Definitely not one of the perks of pregnancy.
  • My guesses are gas pain or general muscle or connective tissue (ligaments, tendons and all that jazz) pain from you stretching out/lying flat. If it feels like a contraction, I'd definitely call your OB/CNM. With any aches and pains during pregnancy, if lying down, putting my feet up, increasing fluids, or just trying to relax doesn't help, I'm calling the advice line!

  • @GinaReed definitely bring it up to your OB. I asked my OB a few weeks ago about laying on my back and she said it was totally fine, UNLESS I felt nauseated or pain. If I felt those two things, no more laying on my back as it's likely my uterus pressing on important areas bringing nutrients to me and the baby/uterus (someone can probably medically elaborate here).
Anyways, maybe try laying on your side instead of your back and talk to your OB!

  • I had this sharp pain on days off for a few days. Finally after walking for awhile it went away. Mine was defiantly gas of some sort.
