Elective induction

Have any of you had a dr induce you due to convemiemce of schedules and sitters for other kids being in town and such? My mom will be in town this weekend and my daughter is still on school break.. also my husband cant get adequate time off nor can we afford it if we go to term... my due date is jan 11th and I was wanting to get induced this weekend! No nad comments please just wondering if anyone had a dr that would do that or if they had experience!

Re: Elective induction

  • Depends on your doctor but I do know that most won't do social inductions before 39 weeks unless absolutely medically necessary. Even at 39 they typically won't induce unless your cervix is favorable and showing signs of progress on its own.

  • My husbands parents are in Texas and we want them around for delivery. My doctor has agreed to induce me on Jan 5th, (I'll be 39 weeks with a baby measuring in the 95%)  so they can fly in. But I've also had increase dilation and effacement with each appointment and she doesn't think I'll make it to next week. Good luck!
  • My OB said absolutely NOT. She wouldn't induce me unless I'm past 40 weeks. Super bummed. They will do a c-section at 39 weeks though if I wanted one.
  • It varies from doctor to doctor and number of pregnancies. My hospital has a policy preventing elective induction for FTMs before 41 weeks and 39 weeks for STM+ and only if your cervix has begun to dilate on it's own. I'm having an elective induction for this pregnancy at 39 weeks because I delivered so quickly last time that I was worried about laboring at home. We did fiddle with dates though to make it easier to get child care for our older daughter, easier for DH to take off work and to avoid my birthday so I'll actually be 39 weeks and a couple days if all goes as planned.

My doc won't induce unless medically necessary until 41 weeks.
I have a friend whose doc induced her first baby early because her husband was deploying right around their due date.
As everyone else has said, every doctor is different but I doubt that pure convenience is a good reason for many.
    DD1: EDD 12/21/11 - Born 11/24/11 at 36w1d
    DD2: EDD 1/16/17 - Born 1/12/17 at 39w3d
  • Im 90% effaced and dialated to a 3.. we also live 30 mins from the hospital so im hoping my dr will be favorable of this idea! Baby was also measuring in the 75th percentile 2 weeks ago at over 7 lbs. I am going to address it at my apt next week in which I will be almost 39 weeks anyway. We are just more concerned with delivering during the weekend! So keeping my fingers crossed! Ive been having pretty good contractions today and am secretly hoping I go into labor on my own in the next day or 2 lol its my 4th and finally a boy so we are super anxious as well as I dont think I can handle this pelvic pain any longer. Just got off modified bedrest this week too!
  • My doc said today that she would induce at 39 weeks if we wanted her too. She said this after We discussed the horrible back pain I've been having. I'm on the smaller side so I think she is worried if he goes 40+ it will be a difficult delivery...

  • I'm hoping to be induced earlier than my due date too, my Dr typically won't induce until due date has passed but baby has been measuring ahead by 2 weeks the past 2 visits (fundal) so I have a growth scan ultrasound scheduled for this coming Friday which will determine if I'll be induced or not.
  • My dr won't induce unless medically necessary. I have been on bed rest, 38 weeks tomorrow, and last we checked still not dilated or effaced. He doesn't want to put me through a long labor which could do stress the baby, then a c section would be required.

I would think you will probably go into labor soon with your cervical conditions. Just have lots of sex with your hubby to get it going!
