Glucose testing already?

So, I am considered high risk and overweight.  My OB's office required me to do the one hour glucose testing this morning.  Has anyone else experienced this?  My OB wasn't concerned about it in 2005 when I was pregnant with my DS.  Just wondering if this is something new?

Re: Glucose testing already?

  • My doctor's office (a very large practice) requires it for all patients in the first trimester, and again in the third. I am not high risk but had to do it around 6 weeks, with my other lab work. I think there was a study done that showed that screening is effective early in pregnancy. I actually failed the screening, so have to go back for the three hour test soon! I think/hope it was just a fluke - I didn't have GD with my first pregnancy, and don't have other risk factors. Still a little concerning though! Fingers crossed.

  • I did the glucose test with my last pregnancy but it was in the second trimester. I also did it recently under my REs request as part of fertility testing.
  • I've had GD. My OB doesn't want to test early...he says there's a lot of false positives early. So we are waiting til 22 weeks.
  • If you had GD before you usually have to test early. Otherwise usually around 28 weeks. Some offices do things differently. It can't hurt to know any signs early! Will help with diet control and keep you off meds or insulin!
