Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie Intro Of The Week 12/18

Hey everyone! Looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better!

Ages (you and SO): I'm 31 and H is 32.

How many months have you been TTC?

Our firstborn just turned 10 months, and due to some GI issues,  I am still breastfeeding. I'd like to wait to TTC until she is weaned. We are thinking of really TTC in the spring, but I am planning to lurk a bit before then and freshen up on my knowledge. I've read TCOYF, and temped the first time around,  but not sure I'm going to temp this time. I just love every minute of sleep I can  get hahaha! That may change though!

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

  • OPKs and tracking cycle.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)

H and I have been together for almost 7 years, married for nearly 2. My DD is 10 months old, and I am a WAHM (not as glamorous as I had thought! Proving to be much harder than I imagined!!). I work in the mental health field and also blog. We love to hike, ski (although I won't be skiing again for a while because of the logistics at this point!) snowshoe, watch The Walking Dead, robo watch apocalyptic shows (like The 100!), and read just about anything! We love vacationing and traveling together and are looking at a trip to Hawaii in fall of 2018 (hopefully with two little ones!).

Looking forward to getting to know you wonderful ladies!!

Me: 31 DH: 32
Daughter: 1 yr old
TTC 2.0: Planning to actively try in May/June :)

  • Ages (you and SO): I'm 24 and DH is 33.

How many months have you been TTC?

This was our first month/cycle TTC.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

    • TCOYF tracking, BBT and CM and position
    • Healthy body weight (DH 24 BMI, me 23.5)
    • Grass-fed meats, liver at least once a week for several months
    • Green leafies and orange roasties up the wazoo
    • Supplement with prenatal (folate, not folic acid), vitamin D, and fermented cod liver oil; DH supplement with vitamin C, vitamin D, and fermented cod liver oil - all since March
    • No alcohol; no caffeine; no smoking; no transfats; no sunflower, corn, cottonseed oils (before you go thinking I have sacrificed my lifestyle... I never indulged in these vices except for the caffeine in dark chocolate... which I still indulge in on occasion)
    • Dr. Bronners Castille soap is my entire beauty regimen now... I was a pretty no-frills girl before, but even fewer products now. I'm pretty fearful of the estrogen-mimicking synthetic chemicals, so I tend to avoid basically everything in the whole world irrationally
    • DH and I exercise at least 3 times a week, usually more like 5, but you know how it goes. I'm a consultant so I managed to trade services with a personal trainer (two sessions a week), with whom I've been working for the past 3 months. We're specifically targeting core strengthening so that my body can be better prepared to handle the lopsided center of balance and frontal weight that is pregnancy. That has been really great so far. Looking forward to modifying exercises during pregnancy and continuing on this track
    • BD during my fertile phase based on ovulation signs... trying for every 1.5 days (morning day one, evening day two, morning day four, etc.)

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)

H and I have been together 3.5 years, got married this past February. No kids yet. No pets yet, although we are currently in the home study process to foster a dog. We just got a house (moving out of a studio apartment we shared for 2 years to save up for said house) and finally have the space for a dog... but we've decided that we would prefer to foster so as not to have to put an adopted dog or puppy through the tough transition to sibling hood with a new baby.

DH and I love cooking and baking, and are big foodies. Im pretty handy, and spend a lot of time DIYing. I love horseback riding, but I don't own a horse and haven't taken lessons in years. That said, my stepmother-in-law has a horse that I frequently care for and ride, and I'm not looking forward to not riding during pregnancy (plenty of people do, but I'd be too nervous to ride beyond first trimester... always the risk of a fall even though I haven't fallen in years). I like spending time with my grandmother and DH'S grandmother (whom I'm currently visiting for the holidays... without DH... I'm really caring for her while my in-laws are away on a cruise). I'm an old person at heart. Case in point, I'm a genealogist by profession.

Looking forward to participating in the TTC community here, although I hope I don't have to TTC too long. I'm at the end of my first TWW. Excited to know very soon if this cycle was a go.

  • Welcome @Knottie1448915096. Might I suggest hopping over to The Knot and changing your user name so as to make it easier for folks to tag you. Knottie1448915096 is just quite a mouth full.

    I'm 26, and he is 28

How many months have you been TTC?
This is our first month trying.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?
Tracking periods, eating healthier,  exercising and also taking vitamins. May try pre seed

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)
My husband and I have been together close to 8 years and married for 3.5 years. No kids yet. We have a little chorkie (Chihuahua Yorkie mix) puppy, named Chispita  (means sparky in Spanish). I love taking pictures of nature. We love watching movies/TV shows and playing board games. We also love going to the lake.
Our family has been wanting us to have a kid since we got married so we are not telling anyone that we are finally trying so they don't pressure us. I want to be stress free of them pressuring us.
I work as a Policy Issuance Specialist at a workers comp business.

I'm a little shy. So I will probably lurk a little more.
  • cactusblossum  You are so right! Going from preventing to trying threw me for a major loop.

When I was growing up I was never told that if it happened it was the worst thing and the end of the world (not by my parents anyway) I was always taught prevention but always knew if something happened I would be supported. Even so outside influences (other people, media, etc) always made it out to be life ruining. *Insert various scary comments from people here* so even with the positive messages I was given the outside voices scared the hell out of me.

As excited as I am about TTC I admit I'm nervous as all get out. I've been repeating the same mantra to myself "You are an adult, you are stable, it's never going to be a perfect time, you have to relax" LOL. DH has been helping a lot with calming down me nervousness. He's super excited about TTC and is helping me harness that :)
  • @SSminnow426 @cactusblossum I'm right there with you ladies!! Ive been on BC for 14 years and now that I am about to TTC it's a really weird experience. You spend your entire life trying not to get KU and then when the time comes when you want to get KU your biggest fear becomes not being able to.
  • @JJMNO1616 Right there. That's my biggest fear. Thank you for voicing it!! I've been on BC for 15 years and I'm so petrified I won't be able to conceive. So strange how something you fear happening becomes the most important thing to you.  <3
  • @MrsBrod - welcome! Good to be tracking before hardcore trying, good luck! Check the welcome thread (pinned at top) if you need suggestions for a bbt, or any of the ladies here would be happy to share recommendations for their favorites.
  • Ages (you and SO): 34/34

How many months have you been TTC?  It's been a year, but we did have to take off a couple of months for Zika concerns.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?  OPK's and charting

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)  No kids, 2 cats.  I love running, knitting, drawing.  Used to be an awesome piano player and I'd love to get back into that.

We've just started with the RE, and I hope to get some answers and a plan soon.

  • @RunsUponATime Welcome!!!  What took you so long!?!?? ;)

  • Excited to get to know everyone! I'm so nervous to post in the TWW board or anywhere else and say anything wrong. I feel like I don't have a right to post until it's been a couple of months of TTC. Anyone else like this? I am just excited to have people to talk to! Since we aren't telling one it's kind of lonely. I'm trying not to drive myself crazy but I feel like this whole thing it so overwhelming and scary!
  • @RunsUponATime Zika has been a concern for myself as well! Out of curiosity do you use bug spray with Deet? I feel like I've read so many mixed reviews if it's safe or not while TTC/Pregnant.
  • edited December 2016
    @SSminnow426
I also felt shy at first about posting too.  But I don't think you have to lurk for a couple of months to have "a right to post."  I haven't been a member for too long, but my opinion is to jump in.  Everyone is super friendly.

  • @SSminnow426 As long as you don't flip out on us if we point out you posted something in the wrong place or something inappropriate I don't think it really matters if you mess up and post something 'wrong'. And it's perfectly fine if you start posting your first cycle. We'll never get to know you if you don't jump in!

  • @SSminnow426 Welcome! Don't be worried about posting! As long as you read the newbie guide all the ladies are more then happy for you to join in. The TTC board isn't intended for women who have been TTC for any particular amount of time. You just want to be mindful of where everyone in the community may be at in their journey. I'm actually TTA right now and won't be activly TTC until April but I have been posting pretty regularly in the other daily threads (not TWW or WTO). I plan to jump right into the WTO thread though when I go off BC in Feb bc I plan to start tracking.  :)
  • @SSminnow426 we went to Miami during the outbreak there  (for work) and my doc told us to use spray with DEET. She knew we were TTC. That said, we took a ttc break after out of an abudance of caution.

  • @JJMNO1616 @ChefRamsay @midsomervillage thank you for the confidence!  I will be totally open to suggestion and feedback   . So excited!

@jess0211 I live in a area that isn't part of the outbreak but the mosquitos that can possbily carry it are around. Been very nerve racking to say the least. I found a spray that said it fought against Zika but glad that the DEET is OK. puts my worrying mind at ease.

Mushy moment---thanks for all being so nice!
  • @SSminnow426  Yes, I found a great bugspray here:

     https://www.amazon.com/Repel-Insect-Repellent-Single-Bottle/dp/B004H89KFC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1483055879&sr=8-3&keywords=deet

It's 98% DEET and I didn't get a single mosquito bite on my trip.
  • If anyone is looking for a deet free bug spay I suggest Buggins. It's what my H swears by and he works outside all day. We live in MN and have a lot of mosquitoes but not the kind that carry Zika. Plus it smells amazing.

  • @sminnow426 I also found these great wrist things that I swear work wonders....DH says I am crazy but our friends came home covered in bites and as far as I know we didn't get bit at all (though PCP made us take a TTC break as a precaution because DH got sick after we came back). There were nights I only wore the bracelet and didn't use anything else. https://www.amazon.com/Mosquito-Repellent-Bracelets-Waterproof-Multicolors/dp/B01F84VRYA/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1483068441&sr=8-13&keywords=mosquito+repellent+bracelet
