Re: PGAL Check-In Week of 12/19

  • Sorry I didn't post an update last week. Sometimes my brain just needs a break from the PGAL stuff.

How far along are you? 13+5

How are you doing? Okay, I have good days and bad days in PGAL land. I had a dream last night that I woke up not pregnant anymore, and everyone was just laughing at me, like a big "we told it wouldn't work." Oof.

Symptom-wise I'm so much better. My morning sickness is pretty much gone, and has given way to 24/7 hunger, which I'll take!

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? My next appointment is 12/28, can't wait for 14 weeks (second tri) this Wednesday. For some reason 16 weeks feels like a huge milestone to me, but I'm not sure why.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: My husband has just been so supportive during this first trimester. I feel so fortunate to be married to him and not someone else. He's just the best. All the DH love today :)

GTKY: I'll have to think on this one. I'm not sure if I've been aware that any gift I received was a last-minute one!

  • First time posting in the June '17 PGAL check in? Welcome! Please Introduce yourself.   Not the first time but I keep taking short hiatuses and my sn changed.  I was "bornmommy" and after about two years of harassing the TBGs, it was changed.  Then changed back.  Now it seemed to be stuck there :)

Anyway - 4.5 yr old, 2.5 yr old, and #3 on the way.  2 prior losses.

How far along are you? 16 weeks and 1 day

How are you doing? Great!  As long as I sleep and have a little caffeine the headaches are minimal.  One pain is that, when I don't sleep, which is much more frequent than actual sleep, the headaches become migraines.  DS2 broke his leg buckle fracture) on Friday and sleep is hard for him which means its hard for me.  BUT last night, he slept through the night so hopefully that starts to trend.  He gets his full leg cast on Wednesday.  (He is currently in a hard splint that I can't remove.)  Having to carry him everywhere isn;t the most fun but at least 1. its not summer and 2. I'm not huge.  :)

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to?  Next apt is the anatomy scan on 1/18.  I'm really looking forward to it.  Hopefully this will be my last ultrasound this pregnancy (which might be my last pregnancy) so its my last time seeing Baby before birth.  Really excited about it!  DH even got off and he never does.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:   I guess my rants and raves were taken care of in the "how are you doing" section.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received?  I LOVE great cards.  I feel like it takes a really long time to find a great card and really appreciate the effort that whoever puts into finding the perfect card.  One year, my then fiancé (now DH), forgot to get me a card and ran out the day before Christmas to find one.   HE brought hime a card that said "to someone special" and was probably good for a neighbor, not someone who was to be his wife.  I laughed it off but it hurt because I'm a big baby.  He never made the mistake again, though! (We had been together for three years at the time and had known each other for 10 years so its not like he didn't know.)

  • @WorkingOnMyNightCheese what a terrible dream, hope you were able to shake it off!

@Turbotastic Ouch! Poor guy! My daughter broke her wrist (buckle fracture) at 20 months, and 6 months later my 6 year old broke both wrists trying to jump off of a trampoline (too lazy to take the stairs). They started sleeping better after the first week, hoping yours sleeps soon!!

  • How far along are you? 14w2d

How are you doing? Really good, eating and sleeping better. Headaches once a week but other than that second trimester has started out pretty nicely.

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to?
We had our ultrasound this morning, babies look great! They were wiggling around, pushing at the membrane between them, kicking away. It was neat to feel them move and see it at the same time, that helped validate that I'm not just feeling gas ;)
I have an OB appointment Thursday, hopefully an uneventful one!
Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Rave for lefse. I've been craving it so badly, so convinced my family to help me make 50lbs of potatoes into it yesterday. Worth the 6 hours of work!!

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received?
An IOU for new bedding from my mom haha
  • Hi, everyone! I'm Amanda. I have one DD who is almost 14 months old and I lost my angel baby at 10 weeks along on Father's Day of this year. I've posted on the board before, just not this thread. I've been taking a break from posting in general though because I've just been not feeling very pregnant since my morning sickness has passed.

    16 weeks 3 days

I should be great because it's been over a week since I've gotten sick and I'm starting to get my energy back, but my lack of symptoms is messing with me. I feel like my belly was much bigger at this point with my successful pregnancy too. I know that rationally none of this matters, but I'm a nervous wreck.

My next appointment is tomorrow. Just a general OB check up. I'm hoping it will put my mind at ease.

The cold weather is so cozy. I love it. There is nothing like sitting by the fire place all snuggled up.

This past Mother's Day DH stopped at Walgreens on the way home from seeing my mother and secretly picked up some photo magnets of me and DD. I know they're same day pick up lol I loved them though. Also, I'm not sure why candles get a bad rap. I know SNL recently did a skit about what a terrible gift they are, but I think they are so nice.

How far along are you? 14+2

How are you doing?  Really not liking the 2nd trimester headaches.. I have noticed however (like a PP had said) that they tend not to get as severe as long as I sleep and have a cup of coffee in the morning.
Irritability is getting to be a thing- however it's directed at one specific person so I'm not sure if it's pregnancy related or just that she's annoying as crap. Lol

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to?
The anniversary of our m/c is coming up (1/16), so I am really looking forward to getting past that week.. our next appointment with the OB is 1/11 and then the anatomy scan will be a couple weeks later

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: DH both cooked dinner and cleaned up tonight, insisting that I go sit down and relax. I did not fight him on this. :)

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received? One of those cheap body spray gift sets that you get at Walmart. Pretty sure it got sold at a yard sale lol
I get super excited about gift cards- I know some say they're impersonal- but I enjoy going to the store and getting things without it hitting my bank account lol.

How are you doing? Pretty good. Nausea is slightly better, and my appetite is returning.

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? I'll see my ob on 1/4, and then have my early anatomy scan on 1/9

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Now that we got low risk NIPT results, I've felt comfortable to start telling a few folks at work. I will say that I'm definitely less "excited" to tell people than with my first - I don't know if that's common with #2, or if having to also say "And I'm high risk and the baby might come early" is muting my enthusiasm.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received? My husband didn't even get me a card for our 1st wedding anniversary. He then ended up getting me a very nice necklace as an apology...and hasn't forgotten since then!

  • I am mobile and it isn't letting me copy/paste.  I am almost 17 weeks (tomorrow) and am getting antsy for movement.  I just want to feel the baby to know everything is still ok in there.  I may have  felt a flutter or two but not positive if it is just wanting to do much.  My next appointment is January 4 and I have my anatomy scan on the 12th.

The weirdest gift I have gotten was from my husbands grandparents.  It was this time weird cheap bird I think jewelry box.  It was maybe big enough for 1 ring.

  • How far along are you? 15 weeks

How are you doing? Aside from headaches, I am doing well. I know that it is a contraversial topic, but we went and had an elective ultrasound (with the okay from my OB) on Saturday. It was so much fun to see her moving around and waving her arms. I was never planning on getting one, but I just needed to see her. It was great piece of mind plus we were able to get a cute Christmas gift for my MIL from it.

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to?  Feeling her move! Next appt is 12/27.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Just feeling thankful. My EDD from my loss is 12/29, and I wanted so desperately to be pregnant by now...and I am. I know that I will never have a worry free pregnancy, but I feel lucky to be here. I'm also excited to celebrate with family we haven't seen since announcing this coming week and to see my parents since they live out of state. This is our first time hosting Christmas and while it has gotten expensive with all of the prep, I am really looking forward to it.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received?  I can't think of anything!
  • How far along are you? 12w 6d

How are you doing? Mentally, much better!  Physically, still working through a bunch of symptoms.  The nausea is basically gone, though, so hooray!

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? Next appointment is 1/9.  Looking forward to 2nd trimester.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: We got the results from our NIPT, and everything looks good!!  I'm so relieved and thankful.  And we're having a BOY (our third)!!  My sons will be thrilled, and I'm super excited to tell them.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received? Hmm, not sure about this one.  I'll think about it.

    How are you doing?
Today was a nap til dinner afternoon with a headache. I'm feeling lots of uncomfortable pulling feelings standing up and sitting down and I'm going to the bathroom more frequently to relieve pain when going to the bathroom. These physical symptoms are making me not too excited and feel like I want more fun stuff. I will continue to drink more water.

Has anyone else been seeing the Cat Cafe video adds here? They go on repeat for me and while I once loved cats, my allergies have made me less excited about them. That being said, its pretty cute and kind of an upper.
GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received?
My then friend, later husband, didn't know I was going to get him a gift a year into our friendship (I like to surprise people when I find something appropriate) so he re-gifted a small bowl he got from a white elephant type present exchange. There were kite like shapes on the side of the clay bowl and they reminded me of his love of wind sports (hang gliding in particular at that time, now the safer kite boarding/surfing).  I appreciated it because it made me think of him, even if it was a hand off.

How far along are you? 14 weeks + 4

How are you doing?  Meh...my nausea is pretty bad from 3pm on.

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? We're announcing to family and FB on Christmas!  I'm super nervous to tell my son's birth mom and dad, we love them so much and the thing I fear is them thinking fear their son is going to come 2nd now.  We know he won't but I'm still nervous about hurting them.  In the end they are family and I'm pretty confident they'll be excited for us and excited for Milo to have a sibling.
  • How far along are you?

    How are you doing?
Physically I am doing very well. Mentally, it has been 8 days since we heard the heartbeat and I am back to being so worried all the time that it has since stopped. I really thought by now that I would be feeling much more confident since I am way past the point of our last loss, but sadly, I cannot shake it. I think it's partially because I spent too much time looking at the posts in the Miscarriage/Loss board after my loss and I saw so many 2nd tri loss stories which probably made them seem much more common than they actually are.

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? Next appointment is in the 2nd week of January. The next milestone I am looking forward to is movement! There have been a few times I *thought* I maybe possibly felt something but definitely not even close to sure.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Rave: It's Christmas in 4 days!  YAY!!

  • @JAGinMI I totally understand how you feel. You can read things about how uncommon recurrent losses or second trimester losses are, but it seems fairly common when you are looking in a place that is concentrated with people who have been through them. I just remind myself that it is out of my hands, and odds are my baby will not be one of those 2-3%. I keep telling myself I will feel better after "x" milestone, but I am realizing that until this baby is in my arms I will be nervous about the pregnancy. I'm just trying my hardest to focus on the positive. Have you thought about getting a doppler? It certainly helps keep my crazy in check.
  • @MKRLTX I have not really considered it but I have just reached the point when they say it gets easier to find it so maybe I should look into it!  How often do you do it? Are you supposed to limit your usage of it? What one do you have?

  • excuse me for butting in

@JAGinMI I have the sonoline B doppler and I use it about three times a week.  I had it with my other two but this PGAL brain is cray and even though I have some definite baby movement happening, I love the extra reassurance. I got mine off amazon five ish years ago when I was pregnant with my first.  My friend (also pregnant) and I bought it together so she would use it one week and then I would get it the next.  I bought her end out after we had our babies and am so happy to did.

  • @JAGinMI I second @Turbotastic. Sonoline B a couple times per week!  At ths point if it takes me 30 seconds to find, that is a long time.
  • How far along are you? 17w1d

How are you doing doing? not too bad. Very few symptoms these days besides my bump finally starting to grow (only below the belly button it is noticeable so far though).

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? One week away from the anatomy scan! Soo excited and a little anxious

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I can't believe it has almost been 6 weeks since my NT scan. Such a lot time to go without seeing him... especially since I have yet to really feel any movement. FTM here so I have a hard time dicephering if some of the sensations are actually movement. I've been using my Doppler every few days just to make sure everything is ok.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received? Can't really think of anything right now.

    14 weeks today
    How are you doing?
Physically I'm great. Mentally, I'm kind of struggling lately. I've been having dreams where I'm basically reliving the weekend my friend had her stillbirth except the roles are reversed and it's me instead of her going through it. And my EDD from my mc is coming up in Feb and I have been thinking about it a lot lately. I'm just in a bit of a funk.

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to?
Happy to be in 2nd tri! Next appt is Thursday, which will be nice. And then the appointment after that will probably be the anatomy scan!

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes
I finally overcame my fear and let one of my coworkers doppler me at work when she and I work together. It's been great to hear the heartbeat more than just when I go to the doctor.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received?
I can't think of anything right now! I'll have to ponder this one.
  • @JAGinMI also jumping in on the Doppler convo! I bought a sonoline B from their website when it was on sale (about $30-$35). In don't use it super often just because I'm trying to avoid doing "unnecessary” things just in case, but I also consider keeping my anxiety from reaching critical mass necessary at times. The first time I couldn't find it, but it was a bit early. The second time I found the heartbeat right away on a hunch. The third time was about a week after an ultrasound and I found baby instantly in the same place they did. I gave myself a pep talk before each time: if I don't find it it doesn't mean anything, baby is still small and I am not a professional.   It's amazing how just a few seconds of hearing that sweet sound instantly soothes and fills me with so much happiness!

    How far along are you?
    14 weeks today!
(Hi @huskermom14! Looks like we are right there together! Congrats on being in the 2nd trimester!!)

    How are you doing?
I have been so emotional this week! Early in the week it was work stress and short temper, then yesterday and today I've been so easy to cry! 2 of my friends who know about my losses and this LO both remembered what today is and each did something special/reached out to me this week to congratulate getting to the 2nd trimester and each of them made me bawl! It was just so sweet of them to remember/mark it on their calendars, it really made me feel loved and honored to know how much this LO is already cared about by others.

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to?
Mid Jan. Looking forward to feeling movement, finding out baby's sex, and (oddly?) when baby can hear sounds in there!

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes
I am just so happy to final be here! My 12w ultrasound showed baby bouncing all around and that lovely sight is still engrained in my memory and makes me so happy! I know nothing is ever 100% guaranteed, but I promised myself when I got to this point I would let myself enjoy this pregnancy and try to have faith that it will work out. All I can do is make good choices and the rest is out of my hands.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received?
When we were young, all of us kids really wanted a certain animal and spent a good amount of time around these animals at a nearby facility (but didn't own any).  For Christmas one year, the last gift we each unwrapped was something to care for this type of animal (mine was a brush), which we thought was a sign we were getting one- Nope, no animal; just a brush. My 9 y/o self was crushed and confused.

  • How far along are you? 14w1d

How are you doing? Good now. I'm on vacation and I had a gush of blood and tissue during an ice storm. Closest hospital doesn't do maternity care so no OB. I got an ultrasound and baby was doing amazing. My dr put me on modified bedrest just until she can examine me herself on the 29th. I followed the rules for the first couple days, but being on vacation seeing family I haven't seen in almost 2 years makes it hard to just sit there. Only a little bit more spotting has happened and it's been 6 days.

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? The 29th.

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: see above

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received? My bil gave me a coffee gift set from a gas station... This was when I didn't drink coffee.

Mom to Madison- 5 and Lillian 2....and now surprise baby #3!
  • @Mashunya425 I can't believe your anatomy scan is so close! It's just crazy to think we are already getting to that point in our pregnancies.
@lizerspitz I'm feeling the same uncomfortable pushing and pulling feelings. I don't specifically remember these from my previous pregnancies but I can't wait for them to make their exit.

Mom to Madison- 5 and Lillian 2....and now surprise baby #3!
  • Sorry I'm playing catch up, it's been a hectic week! Thank God for Christmas break.

How are you doing? Very good

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? Dec 28th

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Went to the hospital on Tuesday due to some pain near my ovary area. Everything was fine, baby is good so I'm a little relieved.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received? The worst gift I have received has to be clothes that aren't my style or taste. I always feel like I have to wear it at least once or take a pic, just so the person doesn't feel bad.

  • How far along are you? 15 weeks 6 days

How are you doing? Great; would be fantastic if my MIL could go missing for a few days...

Next appointment? Or, alternatively, next milestone you're looking forward to? Dec 29 for early blood glucose screen; had GD with my 2nd in 2011.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I'm much more of a lurker than a poster but this feels like a great group to be in! Love the support and the snarki-ness equally! Sometimes a little of both is needed.

GTKY: What's the best, or worst, last minute gift you've received? My DH bought me a new meat drawer for the refrigerator for my birthday. Sadly, it was not last minute though.
  • @roo1381 Is your DH missing any fingers or toes? I'd have never let that one down
  • @halfthetree I went out a few days later and bought myself a Tory bag I'd been eyeing and put it in the meat drawer.

****AHHHH I'm stuck in the box!!!****
anywho... I'm so glad I'm not the only one feeling this way! Although a few days would feel like a tease... can we shoot for a week or two (minimum)?!  :)
