Stretching not cramping feeling?

I'm four weeks and after several days of nonstop nausea I was finally able to eat a full meal. Afterwards it felt like my abdominal muscles were tired or sore. I could also feel what I can best describe as a stretching feeling- not PMS like cramps. Is this normal?

Re: Stretching not cramping feeling?

  • I've had slight discomfort like stretching, as well. It sometimes actually feels kind of like tightness as if I had just worked out the muscles and now they're sore. It's kind of subsided now, though. This is my second pregnancy and I don't remember feeling that stretching tightness this early on, I'm only 5W6D. I have read that STM can experience round ligament pain earlier than the first, but this seems super early. As long as there's no cramping accompanied by bleeding, I don't feel too concerned. But as always, call your doctor for the peace of mind if you need to.. no shame in that! :)  <3

  • It could be stretching, could also be a bit of bloating. I have been having those feelings for the last few weeks. First trimester involves a lot of growth and shifting of your insides, so you'll probably be feeling some of it. Just try to find ways to relax.

I find that standing with my hands flat on a counter/desk and sticking my rear out to lightly stretch my abdominal area helps relieve it a bit. My mom says this stretch will also come in handy when we are further along and our bump gets tight. It will help you relax, and help the baby relax.

  • Yes! I've wondered the same thing. My OB said both stretching and cramping is normal in the first trimester so I am not worried. I think I am going to start taking yoga classes, not that it will help my uterus stretch but I feel like it should help everything else and the tight bloating feeling.

  • A lot of stuff is moving around right now and gets squished and stretched to accommodate the baby. Cramping and stretching is normal as long as it's not excessive.
