Infertility

New Girl in Town

I've been following that his board for awhile now but haven't actually posted. Here's my ttc story. I'm 29 and my husband is 31. My husband and I are high school sweethearts, we've been together for 12 years and married for 3, no children. We just started our 20th cycle ttc. After a year of ttc my husband had an SA ordered by our PCP. The results were not great, low count, low motility, low morphology. My husband then went to see a urologist and was prescribed Clomid and told to repeat the SA in 3 months. The second SA had a way better sperm count, same morphology, but the motility had fallen even lower. The urologist said to repeat the SA in 3 months, and that SA saw a drastic drop in sperm count. In September 2016 we finally met with an RE we said my husbands counts would not keep us from conceiving this long. He said they were low but not horrible. In October I had an HSG and that showed clear tubes but my RE did see a spot while he was putting in the dye that he said he was 80% sure was endometriosis. He diagnosed us with unexplained infertility. November we would had done our first iui but we were on vacation at the beginning of my cycle. I just went in this morning for CD 3 BW and ultrasound and got the all clear to start my medicated iui cycle. My RE has me on Letrozole, Menopur, Ovidrel, and Progesterone suppositories during this cycle. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm really looking for a supportive group since our family and friends don't know what we're going through.

  • I have a friend whose husband had mobility and numbers issues they had him start clomid and later they told him to try coq10 it helped his mobility maybe ask your doctor about that for him. Good luck is not easy but the ladies here make it easier.
  • My husband and I were both told to try COQ10 before our IVF cycle. I feel like it helped with numbers but we used ICSI anyway.

  • Thanks ladies. The urologist put him on a supplement called Proxeed Plus when he started on Clomid. It has COQ10 and other vitamins. The RE said that we will have to monitor his counts as we get closer to a year on Clomid since it can make the counts worse the longer he's on it.  March will be a year.
  • hey @amvaldez18 -- warm welcome :D

Your story sounds pretty familiar! Me and DH have been together since high-school, same ages, same MFI diagnosis.

Depending on his levels, I'm not sure why your RE would say that was not the cause. My husband was borderline low as well (with 1% morph) and our dr. said he was sure that's what the issue was, and he doesn't consider morph to be an issue with counts at that level.

We've had a lot of luck increasing DHs counts with vitamins, and a few other lifestyle changes. Less alchohol, no car warmers, hottubs, baths, etc. AND a 'release' every 2-3 days minimum. He went from an initial 10m post wash count, to 60m post wash count in just a few months!
    Me 28, DH 30 - TTC #1 since April 2016
Me - all clear, DH - initially low SA, with 1% morph. Now A+ SA (increase from 10M to 60M).

    Sep/Oct 2016 - IUI #1 + 2
     - Femara + Ovidrel + Estrace - BFN
    Nov 2016 - IUI #3 - Femara + Puregon +Ovidrel + Prometrium - BFN
    Dec 2016 - IUI #4 - Femara + Puregon +Ovidrel + Prometrium  - TBD
  • Thanks bobby2016. His first count was 11 million, second was 44, and the third was 15 million. My RE said it is slight male factor but as long as we have been trying we should have gotten pregnant by now. He tested my AMH and it was within the normal range but very low side of normal. He said he was suprised it was low since my first follicular US showed 16 follicles the day I ovulated. He said endometriosis can lower AMH. I'm very hopeful that our treatments work. Luckily our insurance covers unlimited iui's but only 4 IVF.  I'm excited and nervous about the outcome.
  • @amvaldez18 - got it! Yeah, my DHs first SA result was 15 million, interesting how different doctors can explain things entirely differently.

Amazing that your insurance will cover all that! We have unlimited IUI through the provincial government (Canada), but almost nothing for IVF. :(

Hopefully your Dec IUI will be a lucky one!
    Me 28, DH 30 - TTC #1 since April 2016
Me - all clear, DH - initially low SA, with 1% morph. Now A+ SA (increase from 10M to 60M).

    Dec 2016 - IUI #4 - Femara + Puregon +Ovidrel + Prometrium  - TBD
  • @amvaldez18 I'm jealous of your ins coverage!  We are all OOP for this, my DH has MFI issues as well, and I have PCOS so we're a good matched set lol!  The clinic said that DH's #'s are on the low side for IUI (not that it absolutely wouldn't work but our chances are lower than normal), but that we shouldn't have any issue with IVF.  Once AF starts up I'll go on BCP and we'll start our first IVF cycle.

Together Let Us Seek the Heights

  • @amvaldez18 That is awesome insurance coverage. Our insurance will cover our medications and testing but not the procedures. I've been through 4 IUIs but had to go to IVF (turns out his swimmers won't fertilize my eggs). Good  luck and FX!
